Title: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Slugkid on 14 December 2008, 14:05:58 How much are you affected by videogames?
An example: I started liking coffee after playing Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations. When I drink it, I go all like "Duh duh duh duh DUH. Duh duh. Duh duh duh duh duh duuuh duh duh duh. duhdu duh duh duh duh DUH. Duh duh duh DUH duh duh duh duh DUH duh duh DUh duh. Duh du doo duh duh doo doo doo..." Yeah... I know. Edit: Also Law and Order... Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Johncarllos on 14 December 2008, 16:02:22 I've liked music more since I started playing Guitar Hero.
Mostly singing and drums. Hell, I can play expert drums now on Rock Band and I really wanna sit down at a drum set and see if ANYTHING can translate over. Besides that, the Legend of Zelda got me into archery. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ASR on 14 December 2008, 19:00:46 Mario got me into saving princesses.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Edgecrusher on 14 December 2008, 20:05:50 *laughs*
Mario got me into eating mushrooms. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Snare on 14 December 2008, 21:24:40 Animal Crossing made me interested in insects and fish, I'll have you know.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Winged Warrior on 15 December 2008, 01:30:44 GTA got me into being locked up for 13 life sentences...
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ChaosVortex on 15 December 2008, 02:09:26 *laughs* My brother too. He's also eaten plastic Mutagen from TMNT action figure sets. When young, after playing too much Donkey Kong Country, I would throw basketballs at people in hopes they'd fall off screen when I hit them. ... I can't think of anything, really. I find that surprising. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Winged Warrior on 15 December 2008, 02:41:17 Seriously though, video games have never gotten me into doing anything relative to habits.
Instead, games have encouraged a change in taste: Game systems I use most What/how I draw story preferences They encourage me into buying their sequels/prequels, but they do not encouraging me into carrying an M40. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Edgecrusher on 15 December 2008, 03:03:14 Actually, in all seriousness, video games helped spark my passion for reading (thanks RPGs!), as well as my passion for logic puzzles and spatial reasoning. (Thanks Intelligent Qube!)
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ASR on 15 December 2008, 04:40:57 I'm pretty sure my brother learned everything he knows about World War 2 from Call of Duty.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 15 December 2008, 05:03:41 Really?
'Cause I learned everything I know about the Cold War from MGS3. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ASR on 15 December 2008, 06:21:00 And I learned everything I know about the Hussite Wars from Yoshi's Island.
Admittedly I know very little about the Hussite Wars. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Fatso on 15 December 2008, 06:32:09 Almost every game I've ever owned has had an AWESOME soundtrack, so it could be said that my interest in video game music was inspired by the games I played. Other than that, nothing.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: AlexThePenguin on 15 December 2008, 06:36:20 I've got a friend who loves CalorieMate since he bought it after playing the MGS series.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Majikn on 15 December 2008, 07:18:04 Long before I started really listening to actual bands, videogames were my source of music. That branched over into me liking techno music, and while I still like some techno if it's very very good, that was short-lived. I knew what kind of sound I liked, but I didn't know why until a while after I started listening to symphonic metal.
And yeah. I listen to all kinds of music now. I'm sure something else would've got me into it otherwise, but I can still attribute the interest to videogames. If I got into a project for a videogame, I'd be the one in level/character design. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Edgecrusher on 15 December 2008, 13:37:31 Everything I know about women I learned from Leisure Suit Larry.
It's amazing that I'm married. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: AlexThePenguin on 15 December 2008, 15:51:23 Ahaha, nice.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Slugkid on 15 December 2008, 19:38:18 I learnt half of my english vocabulary thanks to videogames, pretty much.
Also, after turning myself into a castlevania fan, I think vampires are the best undead. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ASR on 15 December 2008, 19:48:28 I don't know how I tolerate Castlevania because I generally hate everything vampire-related.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Fatso on 15 December 2008, 21:31:40 Oh yeah, that's right, Castlevania games inspired my mini-obsession with the guy in my avatar, although they were supplemented by On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 16 December 2008, 01:55:18 I generally hate everything vampire-related. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Johncarllos on 16 December 2008, 02:58:57 Mmmm, is that a book about Johnny Appleseed's midnight ride to warn the townspeople of the approaching Mexicans?
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2008, 03:14:53 I can't think of anything video games made me do that was new. I was mostly raised by TV instead, though I've been playing vidya games since '86.
I'm really trying to think of something that isn't like "Megaman made me draw robots" or some other dumb thing. The only thing closer than that is I like jumping and parkour stuff because of old 2D platforming, but that's probably not the reason I like that stuff anyway. Maybe I like Street Fighting because of... Tekken 3? Har. Har. Of course that's not true, Tekken 3 is awful. OH ohh! I think Tony Hawk games helped me get into skateboarding. Like, I'd already been doing it a bit since I was younger but it brought the drive back, and my friends started too. Everything I know about women I learned from Leisure Suit Larry. That's how I learned to check the drain before ever turning on the faucet in a bathroom sink. Really? That must not be much. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ASR on 16 December 2008, 04:29:45 Oh! Oh!
Mario 64 encouraged me to try to wall-jump once. Like really try to wall-jump. And fall. Slash fail. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2008, 05:04:12 Pokemon inspired me to catch 'em all.
And I did. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ChaosVortex on 16 December 2008, 12:34:59 For some reason, I never liked Metal Gear Solid when I was young, but I did play Syphon Filter.
Syphon Filter encouraged me to lay low and play stealthy. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Slugkid on 16 December 2008, 13:52:56 Tony hawk made me get a skateboard, too, and learn how not to fall. But I don't know how to do anything apart from skating without falling, turning and manuals... : /
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2008, 18:56:51 Well I'd already been skating before, and had my own boards, but OK.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Edgecrusher on 16 December 2008, 19:56:33 I'm going to go ahead and state the obvious here:
If it wasn't for our love of Megaman, none of us would have come here. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ASR on 16 December 2008, 21:47:11 Speak for yourself! I would have ended up here due to my love of Matrices.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Winged Warrior on 17 December 2008, 01:18:16 ...#####
video games did get me into forums... God Damned Megaman and his social interwebs. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ChaosVortex on 17 December 2008, 02:40:12 Yu-Gi-Oh! got me here. =P
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 17 December 2008, 03:32:25 I'm going to go ahead and state the obvious here: This and ...##### This. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: orclev on 20 December 2008, 00:01:47 I kind of think MegaMan Legends got me into classical music...
Or at least Bach/organ music in general. Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: ChaosVortex on 21 December 2008, 01:30:57 Only thing I liked outside of playing Legends that I related to Mega Man Legends was when I was reading a book in "reading rally" in 6th grade. My teacher at the time played classical music while we read. In the middle of the read, I recognized a tune and thought, "THAT'S THE THEME FROM THE MUSEUM!"
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Speed Racer on 23 December 2008, 16:20:07 Links 2004 reminded me of when I used to play golf with my grandpa when I was a little kid. I wish I could've showed him the game before he died, because I think he would have gotten a kick out of that game (Wii Sports as well). Since I picked up that game, I go golfing with my buddy Doug whenever I visit my old college.
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Rahvin on 30 January 2009, 12:46:06 I'm gradually developing interest in studying the mythology and religions of different cultures after playing a lot of Shin Megami Tensei. WHO WOULDA THOUGHT A GIANT ##### IN A CHARIOT WAS A BUDDHIST SYMBOL OF TEMPTATION?!
Title: Re: Have you started liking something after playing a videogame? Post by: Mikero on 2 February 2009, 19:16:23 That doesn't sound that strange.
Not strange enough for capital letters. |
