Title: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 7 December 2007, 00:03:18 I'm surprised there wasn't a topic already.
God, SMG is a work of art, it seriously made me feel like I was a wide eyed child again, playing Super Mario 64 on my shiny new N64 for the very first time, a really magical feeling on account of it being the first game I ever played and all. I was afraid the whole game was going to be like the last level you play as Knuckles (maybe it was Rouge, but whatever, the space one) in Sonic Adventure 2, with all those sphere shaped planets that turned the controls into poop. Thankfully the controls of which way to go were only a small annoyance at only a few points. The art direction and concepts were beautiful and true to the Mario style, ya know, make everything adorable, make epic explosions happen, a few epic boss battles, et cetera. How about that soundtrack? One or two songs that got annoying, most of 'em were just hum-alongs, but there were actually a few that made me stop and go "Wow, that's some good music.", I mean absolutely brilliant music that really makes you feel like you're on some awesome adventure. Difficulty? Well, there is some to be desired at some points, but a few points were challenging. I mean with the added challenge of Daredevil Comets giving you only one health unit made it difficult at a few points. Some of those Purple Coin Comet levels were pretty difficult when you had a time limit. So, how about Bowser, wasn't he about a million times bigger in Sunshine, and a lot less epic? I mean Bowser boss fights seriously felt dramatic, the music was awesome and Bowser seemed like he was actually a powerful foe even though most people could overcome him the first or second time. Overall the game was amazing, you guys will agree with me this time right? Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Orange Devil on 7 December 2007, 03:30:47 The reason there isn't a topic is because we already discussed the hell out of it in "what game are YOU playing?"
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Majikn on 7 December 2007, 05:18:17 Well we didn't have a topic that really specialized on it. This one does.
The game has almost everything I could possibly want in a videogame. I enjoyed it thoroughly. And this is the only game that I've ever been interested in buying the soundtrack for. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 7 December 2007, 05:22:49 ...
... I think I liked Super Mario Sunshine better... but by just a bit... >_> Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Majikn on 7 December 2007, 05:25:25 Initial response: "lol"
FLUDD's hover device destroyed the entire point of platforming. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Aych on 7 December 2007, 12:27:27 Eh...this game could've been better if THQ developed it.
Too bad, I guess. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Abominator on 7 December 2007, 14:40:54 ...?
Anyway, Fludd should have been limited to a quarter of the stages, or something like that... it was the over-reliance that stunk the funk. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Dr. on 7 December 2007, 15:13:20 This game is pure JENIUS.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Kamon on 7 December 2007, 16:58:32 There's something so entertaining about running around on a giant 8-bit sprite of Mario, as Mario. The game's so odd yet enjoyable.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Abominator on 7 December 2007, 18:05:07 It's just a shame that it'll be another eon before another proper Mario game.
Nintendo do the opposite of Capcom and don't re-use great engines. Capcom overdo it a little bit, though. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Kamon on 7 December 2007, 18:11:55 Nintendo do reuse engines, just not as much.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Orange Devil on 7 December 2007, 18:27:53
Abe, did you just FAIL at grammar? Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Abominator on 7 December 2007, 20:00:23 No.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Chron on 7 December 2007, 20:11:25 ;_; Every time I hear about Galaxy I want to play it even more.
...? I've never really understood why so many people have a problem with the FLUDD device. I thought it was really quite clever, and brought an aspect of mobility to the standard Mario run & jump that flowed quite well. The levels are designed around use for it quite nicely. Then again, I love Sunshine, so whatever. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 7 December 2007, 20:37:56 Me and you both, Chron! w00t!
Nintendo do the opposite of Capcom and don't re-use great engines. Believe it or not, but Nintendo re-used the Super Mario 64 engine for Zelda: OoT. As you can tell, though, it was heavily tweaked. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 7 December 2007, 20:45:12 I really did enjoy Sunshine a tiny, tiny bit more than Galaxy, if only because of the music and scenery.
It's amazing that the 3-D Mario games are always able to attain such wonderful soundtracks. It really is, especially with game music quality nowadays. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Abominator on 7 December 2007, 20:46:55 Believe it or not, but Nintendo re-used the Super Mario 64 engine for Zelda: OoT. As you can tell, though, it was heavily tweaked. Right, I know that they do re-use things, I just mean they could afford to make more than one Mario per console. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 7 December 2007, 20:49:11 I was just saying... just a little fact. >_>
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Chron on 8 December 2007, 01:29:28 Engine development is costly, so they try to use as much old code as possible to help things along
They could totally make more games per console, but developing the ideas... graphics... ... music... All very time consuming and costly. Honestly, I'm happier with the sparse interval of the games, since it means we get more quality. Unlike certain developers that spew out game after game without regard to long term cost benefits of developing a superb game. Certain developers. Also known as Capcom. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 8 December 2007, 01:48:33 I think only MegaMan games are treated that way by Capcom. And it's pretty sad.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Chron on 8 December 2007, 01:51:17 Well.
There's also Street Fighter. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 8 December 2007, 01:53:49 That too.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 8 December 2007, 02:48:36 Don't forget Viewtiful Joe.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Chron on 8 December 2007, 14:06:52 *facepalm*
Sano... Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Dr. on 8 December 2007, 16:54:31 Ahahaha! I love you, Chron
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: guitaristjoe on 8 December 2007, 17:00:56 Right, I know that they do re-use things, I just mean they could afford to make more than one Mario per console. I think that its a good thing, all the time between games. Really I would rather wait for a great game than get a so so game sooner. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Orange Devil on 8 December 2007, 19:24:20 Personally, I think it was sweet realizing that this was the sequel to a game that came out ten years ago.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 8 December 2007, 19:33:33 Right, I know that they do re-use things, I just mean they could afford to make more than one Mario per console. They could still reuse stuff and make one or two more good Mario games per console. It's not like they can only reuse jargon for one game per console and then the next Mario has to have totally mind blowing innovation. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 9 December 2007, 17:03:15 There is no way that Mario Galaxy was worth a 10 year wait from SM64, or however many years from Sunshine.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Majikn on 9 December 2007, 19:55:06 It's not like they spent the whole ten years on the game.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 9 December 2007, 20:13:49 I'd say the wait was worth it... a little...
Like I said, I still perfer Super Mario Sunshine but Super Mario Galaxy is a great game. It probably would've surpassed Sunshine, IMO, if it came before it. I guess it's just a nostalgia I still have for Sunshine. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 9 December 2007, 20:14:45 Sunshine was good. I dunno if Galaxy is better though, I haven't played it enough yet, but it's pretty damn good.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 9 December 2007, 23:09:14 It's not like they spent the whole ten years on the game. My point exactly. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 13 December 2007, 19:17:16 Sunshine was good but it lacked... something. It just didn't feel right after a while, I don't know. I never bothered to finish it.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 14 December 2007, 00:07:27 Mikero, you bring shame upon us all.
Finish the fight, like Master Chief. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 14 December 2007, 05:03:55 I don't own the game. That's one of the reasons I didn't finish. I always wanted to but I didn't want to bother renting it or getting my friend to lend it to me again.
On that note. My other friend, Robbie AKA CrappleJunktown (he was a member here for like a day years ago when I was in high school), came over today and he brought Mario Galaxy and we played it with the two player jargon and boy howdy is that a fun game. I don't say 'boy howdy' lightly. It's a lot easier with 2P since the game doesn't really change at all, it just lets the second player shoot (in addition to first player still being able to shoot), make Mario superjump (with first player help), and paralyze enemies and objects (like rolling rocks). And Master Chief and his game can press lips to my--BOY HOWDY! Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Abominator on 14 December 2007, 08:05:21 Yeah, I did the Player 2 thing with one of my less-skilled chums the other week.
It's neat. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: KPL on 14 December 2007, 13:34:03 I still have to try out the 2-player mode, but the wiimotes are always out of stock.. Bah.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 15 December 2007, 21:39:47 I bought my second WiiMote with the Wii Play package. Good deal, I suppose.
The 2-Player mode is fun, I don't know why so many people hate on it. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2007, 01:55:44 I wanted the Wii Play package because you're a fool not to get a 2nd remote that way if you can but they didn't have it when I went, so I'll get it if I get a third remote.
I want that billiards game damnit. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 17 December 2007, 23:48:49 You mean Wii Play?
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 17 December 2007, 23:51:10 Isn't that what he said?
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 17 December 2007, 23:55:57 ...You know I can't read.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 18 December 2007, 00:21:49 I can read.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 18 December 2007, 00:22:44 Yeah right, ASR. Liar.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: KPL on 18 December 2007, 00:24:12 ...You know I can't read. Typing without being able to read. 1337.. 1447 even. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 01:14:54 What, I'm sorry, I wish I could understand what you just said, but I can't read.
Oh but now on to serious things, I just beat the Final Boss Battle as Luigi yesterday, and now I'm getting all the extra stars, does anyone know what happens after you complete the game with Luigi? Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: KPL on 18 December 2007, 01:15:53
Nope!
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 18 December 2007, 01:16:15 Don't you get pictures or something sent to your Wii Message Board?
lol peach pr0n Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 18 December 2007, 01:38:11 THIS HAPPENS!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=e3FVLyzmNAI
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 18 December 2007, 02:02:54 What the hell is that all about? Explain that video.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 02:04:47 Poop, now I have to finish it.
I've got to be like Mister Chef, I've got to finish this fight. So does that game actually put itself on your DS? Or is it just a preview for a new game? Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 18 December 2007, 02:05:41 Mister Chief... cool.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 02:07:13 Mister Chef, the guy who makes food and is a man.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 18 December 2007, 02:13:18 That would be Mister Chef, moron.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 18 December 2007, 02:24:37 What the hell is that all about? Explain that video. SUPER MARIO GALAXY DS!!!!!111 Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Majikn on 18 December 2007, 02:27:02
How the hell do you feed stars to a Luma? And why would a Luma eat stars? IT'S AN EVIL CANNIBAL
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 18 December 2007, 02:28:03
It's fake.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Majikn on 18 December 2007, 02:29:01 I figured, but I still had to point that out.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 02:52:30
It's fake.
So... That whole thing isn't real? You lied to me? Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: ASR on 18 December 2007, 02:52:41 I'm curious as to how all that fake footage was made. It's impressive.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 18 December 2007, 03:05:54 It was made by the same guy who made the Nintendo ON video.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 03:07:54 So, there isn't a Super Mario Galaxy DS?
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 18 December 2007, 03:16:22 Nope. Natta. Zilch.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 03:17:38 Well, looks like I can go back to playing Mystical Ninja instead of trying to finish the game with Luigi.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 18 December 2007, 06:36:21 I didn't really think that video looked real... or fake... you know?
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: White Shadow on 18 December 2007, 16:29:11 Right, I know that they do re-use things, I just mean they could afford to make more than one Mario per console. Too true. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 18 December 2007, 23:13:08 I didn't really think that video looked real... or fake... you know? Yeah, I know, it doesn't look good enough to be real, but it doesn't look bad enough to be fake. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 19 December 2007, 00:27:16 Yeah, like you can see where it's N64 bits that are cut and manipulated, you can see where they used Wii bits but made it small so you weren't really looking hard, but then there's that stuff that's like... A whole small planet in 64 graphics and it's close enough that you can tell it's not just far off Wii, and you know it's from Mario 64.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Rahvin on 25 December 2007, 05:00:18 Woohoo! Just got my copy from the secret santa my family had. Can't wait until I can pop it into my Wii after they're all done watching A Christmas Carol out there...
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 25 December 2007, 05:04:04 You're kind of late dude, I just got all 121 stars with Mario and Luigi yesterday, you're way behind man.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Rahvin on 25 December 2007, 05:13:04 That doesn't matter. I finally got a copy. I haven't been able to afford jack lately because of garbage hours at my job and bills to pay (not to mention the little bit of christmas shopping I had to do). Let me be happy with it while I can...damn it XD. It's my first new game in a while and I know my friends and I are gonna have a blast playing it.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 25 December 2007, 06:33:12 Hey, I'm not saying you wont have fun, I'm just saying your a tad bit behind, for as you can see, posts in this topic have slowed greatly because Galaxy has been pushed back in our minds and no longer is what we think about all the time.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Rahvin on 25 December 2007, 06:42:53 Nah man, I wasn't getting mad if that's what you think. I was just making a statement. I also don't care if it's not new to you, it's new to me and I've been wanting it for a while. So I decided to come on and post because I'm in a rather good mood tonight and wanted to express my thoughts. Even if you don't care, I just wanted to do it.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 25 December 2007, 06:50:16 Yeah, but I mean to say, it's funner when you have something new that's new to everyone else. So it can be new to everyone and everyone can explore it together. Everything is better with friends.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Rahvin on 25 December 2007, 06:55:58 Yes, and I will be exploring it with friends. Making it more fun (had to jab you there Mr.Grammar Nazi Muffin Man). You honestly don't have to drag this on, lol. Hell, you could have just let it slide back down on the list. I just wanted to make that post and let it go if no one had anything to say. No reason to continue this meaningless string of posts, is there?
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Slugkid on 22 April 2008, 20:09:26 I'm sorry for the revival, but I discovered this earlier today. A friend of mine has a wii, and he bought Super Mario Galaxy yesterday. I went over to his house and tried it, and we noticed that on the cover's title some letters had little stars.
Super Mario galaxy Ur mr gay? The hell? I dunno whenever he got scammed and got a fake, or it's only around here or stuff, but we found it very weird. Again, sorry for the necroposting. Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Johncarllos on 22 April 2008, 20:21:30 OLD NEWS.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: NovaMan XP on 22 April 2008, 20:51:07 Yeah, this was discovered LONG ago. It's on all the game boxes.
Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Slugkid on 22 April 2008, 20:52:23 Oh...
... Title: Re: Super Mario Galaxy Post by: Mikero on 25 April 2008, 05:07:16 That's not interesting, new or old, anyway...
