Title: SKATE Post by: guitaristjoe on 7 December 2007, 23:05:50 I love this game to death.
It's the skateboarding game by EA that was so hideously over-advertised. Has anyone else played it or own it for that matter? Title: Re: SKATE Post by: NovaMan XP on 7 December 2007, 23:06:49 Over-advertised?
Never heard of it. Ever. Sorry. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: guitaristjoe on 7 December 2007, 23:09:10 Really?
The "Let your little skater out" commercials? Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Abominator on 7 December 2007, 23:19:40 I played the demo, and was mildly entertained, but it's nothing I'd buy.
Never saw an ad for it. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Edgecrusher on 7 December 2007, 23:56:51 I've never seen commercials for it (mainly because I don't watch television) but I do enjoy the game, and prefer it to the Tony Hawk franchise.
In Skate, if I land a move, I actually feel like I've accomplished something. I can't say the same for TH. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: guitaristjoe on 8 December 2007, 00:00:03 Yeah.
In the Tony Hawk Series, the physics can be so completely cartoonish sometimes, it makes me sick. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Dr. on 8 December 2007, 01:06:25 TH sucks, so does skating in general.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 8 December 2007, 04:40:07 I adore THPS, but it's about time it got a competitor. You can tell the series has been getting... overconfident lately. Not trying as many new things since THUG.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ChaosVortex on 8 December 2007, 04:41:32 Yeah, I liked the old THPS games, but to be honest, I haven't picked up one at all since THPS 4.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 8 December 2007, 04:43:20 Proving Ground on the DS was pretty wicked, no lie, but still more of the same. I wouldn't have liked it for a console, just the fact that it was on the DS and portable made up for the lack of new stuff.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ChaosVortex on 8 December 2007, 04:46:04 I just like creating my own park. If the game can't really do that, it sucks in my opinion.
In THPS 2, I made an awesome Labyrinth park. I loved it so. In THPS 4, the game wouldn't even let me cover 1/20th of the park with what I had intended. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 8 December 2007, 04:47:11 THPS2 had the best editor out of the first 4, from what I remember.
Proving Ground DS lacks an editor, and for that I am very sad. It's still a very solid game despite that, though. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Speed Racer on 8 December 2007, 05:33:23 In Skate, if I land a move, I actually feel like I've accomplished something. I feel the same way too, but that's because the controls suck. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 8 December 2007, 07:25:08 Skate or die?
I've never heard of Skate but I'd try it. I'm a hardcore TH fan though. I adore THPS, but it's about time it got a competitor. You can tell the series has been getting... overconfident lately. Not trying as many new things since THUG. Yeah. The best new thing they did was no loading times but even then it was only done for the story mode of THAW and wasn't even available on free skate. Dumb. I haven't played Project 8 mainly because I don't rock an Xbox 360 and heard it was only OK, and I was NOT going to pick that Downhill Jam garbage. I want to try the new one, it looks good enough to try out. THPS2 had the best editor out of the first 4, from what I remember. It had a better editor than 3, or rather 3's was basically the same deal with upgraded graphics and no kid mode if I remember correctly. THPS4 had the best editor of the first four because it had scaling options and loads of other better stuff. I'm no sure if THP3 had scaling. I could check but it's not worth it right now. I hate handheld TH games since I tried the GBA version of THAW; THAS (the S is for Skateland but it might as well be for #####). No idea what style the DS one rolls with though, I might rent it. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 8 December 2007, 15:30:37 I'm going to tell you, the DS versions are pretty much like playing slightly upgraded N64 versions minus the editor. I reccomend Proving Ground for DS, and I've played SK8Land - it's still great, but with cartoony graphics. Proving Ground is more true to the realistic-type stuff.
I've also played Downhill Jam, it's actually pretty fun, but not worth a purchase. All in all, Proving Ground is nothing like the old GBA games which did indeed suck so badly. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Edgecrusher on 8 December 2007, 16:10:35 In Skate, if I land a move, I actually feel like I've accomplished something. They don't suck, they just take skill. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: guitaristjoe on 8 December 2007, 16:20:13 I agree with Edge there...
I picked it up in like 5 minutes. You have to be either extremely uncoordinated or have broken thumbs. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 8 December 2007, 19:38:29 I'm going to tell you, the DS versions are pretty much like playing slightly upgraded N64 versions minus the editor. I reccomend Proving Ground for DS, and I've played SK8Land - it's still great, but with cartoony graphics. Proving Ground is more true to the realistic-type stuff. I knew DJ would be fun, but I still don't want it. I like the direction THUG set in motion. Free roam and story. Sk8land or whatever I just hate because of the controls. It's just not so hot. Of course, I wasn't playing it on an actual GBA... I'll try PG on DS but I want to try on a console. Although I'm worried since I heard Project 8 was pretty bleh. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: guitaristjoe on 8 December 2007, 22:35:36 I bought Project 8...
It was extremely bleh. The focus thing was cool for 5 minutes, tops. But I beat it in 3 hours. But I think that they did START the whole "thumbsticks control the feet" notion. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: riakage on 9 December 2007, 00:56:02 Wow, saying it was over advertised is funny because i have never seen a single ad for skate, although I did buy it and I like it a WHOLE LOT better than any other Tony Hawk game i have ever played. My favorite part is the control scheme.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 10 December 2007, 00:26:55 Wow, saying it was over advertised is funny because i have never seen a single ad for skate, Same. I like it a WHOLE LOT better than any other Tony Hawk game i have ever played. It's not a Tony Hawk game. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 10 December 2007, 01:16:48 He meant that he likes it better than the Tony Hawk games.
I really want to try it. I'd also like to say that I do remember seeing ONE advertisement for it, but there was no actual gameplay footage. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 13 December 2007, 19:05:00 I know what he meant, I was commenting on what he said.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 13 December 2007, 23:55:48 My bad, because I didn't know you knew what he meant and that you were commenting on what he said. Rawr.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2007, 02:03:20 That's cool.
Anyway skateordieskateordieskateordi eskateordieskateordie!! Title: Re: SKATE Post by: riakage on 16 December 2007, 07:49:02 I know what he meant, I was commenting on what he said. Yeah I didn't notice how I had typed that until now. I should have said I like SKATE better than any Tony Hawk game I ever played. Anyways.... SKATE is an awesome game compared to Proving Grounds. Why? Because, SKATE is more casual than Proving Grounds. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2007, 08:04:41 What does that mean, more casual?
I haven't played Proving Ground, mind. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: riakage on 16 December 2007, 08:17:56 Well , and this is probably just me, but when playing SKATE I fell like it's just a simple everyday world where nothing unusual is taking place. But when I play Tony Hawk, I feel like I'm playing a videogame.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2007, 08:44:58 I can kind of get that but I'd have to play SKATE to really feel ya.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Fatso on 16 December 2007, 20:15:29 I picked it up in like 5 minutes. You have to be either extremely uncoordinated or have broken thumbs. Oh, so THAT's the secret! *runs off to get sledgehammer* You will soon ph34r my skatin' skillz! Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Mikero on 16 December 2007, 23:43:10 No, I think he meant you'd need to have broken thumbs to NOT be able to play.
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Fatso on 18 December 2007, 17:33:24 That was the joke :P
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: Edgecrusher on 18 December 2007, 18:44:20 Your sarcasm = Fail
Title: Re: SKATE Post by: KPL on 23 December 2007, 01:52:00 I've just played this game for about an hour, and I got quite the hang of it. It's more realistic, and the controls are quite new. Very doable, though.
I just hate the curves, my only true enemy in SKATE. Title: Re: SKATE Post by: ASR on 23 December 2007, 02:11:37 Doable = possible. Please?
I still really want this game. I settled for The Orange Box first, though. |
