Title: Remember when Cartoons would actually try and teach you important life lessons?

He-Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvAOQdDWvro&feature=related)
More He-Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6Y-e13EqK0&feature=related)
Transformers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zss5lSV-bis)

I felt this was necessary.

Fraggle Rock was really good at that too, not to mention it's incredibly complex social structures and mock-ecological systems.

Holy crap, yeah. Jim Henson's ideas behind that show were absolutely mind-blowing. He set out to create a show that would teach kids about the crazy world around them and show them the effects of some actions, and in the end encourage and show peaceful solutions. In the end, he hoped that the kids that watched the show would one day use what they had learned from Fraggle Rock when they became world leaders and make the world a better place.

Crazy-ass stuff.

If you ever learned anything from Captain Planet something was probably wrong with you.

Mikero: Okay, I will admit, the sonic ones ROCK.

I think that many old cartoons did not even try to do this.

Tom and Jerry.  Senseless animal violence(not that I didn't/don't like it) that really would not be accepted nowadays.

Captain Planet= GAY.

How in the hell could they pass off "love" as an element?!?!  And why did the one that had the power of love have to be a seemingly homosexual indian american(politically correct enough?)?

Screw you guys. Captain Planet, Sonic the Hedgehog, and even Power Rangers was KICKASS.

... although, I really don't to watch any of them ever again, but they were awesome.

I used to love this stuff when I was a kid. It never felt too much like I was being taught.
Usually it was just something nice and pertinent tacked on to the end of the show.

Personally, one of the best examples of this was Mighty Max. The whole show was based on running around through portals, and they would inevitably show up in a wide variety of countries.
At the end of the show there would be an interesting detail about a prominently featured country. It was like social studies, only with portals.

That's because you fail and don't know what good cartoons are.

I never really understood why after the Thundercats made something that made them think on how to be better "people" they started to laugh, I mean, they weren't actually funny. =/

That sentence doesn't compute. I think you need to get some sleep.

Oooooh!~ You don't think I'm funny, do you? So, you've watched plenty of 'cartoon' and you 'havn't' learned anything, eh?

What?

That sentence doesn't compute. I think you need to get some sleep.

Remember that after every episode, they had another mini-adventure (Or explained what good they did, don't remember) in which they tried to teach you to be a better person (Or cat or wtfever), and afterwards laughed like idiots for no reason?
I found their laughs to be pretty stupid.

Captain Planet= GAY.

How in the hell could they pass off "love" as an element?!?!  And why did the one that had the power of love have to be a seemingly homosexual indian american(politically correct enough?)?

That rocked the house. And it wasn't love, it was heart. And yeah, Heart was stupid AND idiotic at the same time, but ##### that 'cause the show was dope in spite of that.

Two more words:

Sonic Sez.

Late.

I used to love this stuff when I was a kid. It never felt too much like I was being taught.

Now you're thinking with portals.

I remember Dinosaurs, mainly the last episode was just completely out of left-field, and incredibly creepy.

It's the one where the dad becomes the head of a factory or something, and his company razes the trees, and creates a #####-load of smog, causing acid rain and whatever. Also it gets real hot, and they try to fix it by blowing up a bomb in the sky, which causes clouds to block the sun all around the world. And they all freeze to death.

It was a message on how we shouldn't be #####in' up the planet.

It's been years since I've seen it, but I think that's what happened.

If that's true, I'm glad I missed that episode. Somehow "I'm the baby, gotta love me" would have been less funny (not that it really was funny...) from that point on.

That whole show was laced with content and thinly veiled messages like that. Most members of this board were too young at the time to catch a lot of it.

It's amazing when you go back and watch it.

It's almost like watching a different show.

I might do that. I was definitely too young to notice.

If this dinosaurs is the cartoon I think, I only remember one episode where the dad gets a job in a TV company, and all the programs are dumb and one of the dinosaurs forgets how to breathe...And that's all I remember about it.

It's not a cartoon.
I was really young, too, I wanna' go and rewatch it. It just recently came out on DVD. Like, within the last two months, if I remember.

No, the man.

Also, I have the original episodes on tape.
I love the one where they find that plant in the woods, and get hooked on it, because it's an addictive hallucinogen. Then they lose their jobs and stuff and the moral is not to do drugs.
According to my sister, it's hilarious if you watch it while you're tokin' the reefer.

'Cause that's all I ever hear you guys talk about when the subject is Dinosaurs, their jobs.

My old roomie watched "Suber Mario Brother's 3" (the DVD box set)

One of the episodes concluded like this.

cutei-pie whining that she's not getting enough to bowser.
Bowser taking the flying ship to America, and landing it near the white house.
Cutiepie taking one of the wands, and transporting the white house under the ocean.\

MARIO AND LUIGI CLAIMING THEY HAVE TO SAVE AMERICA!

Mario getting in a frog suit

the "Do the frog song" (don't ask)

Mario arriving at the submerged whitehouse, Fixing the plumbing, and all the water shooting out the windows, though pipes, To the surface, Over the water, then landing in it's old spot.

Cutie pie was pissed, of course, and threw a tantrum, then Mario teleported cutie-pie, via wand, to her home at bowser's caste. Finally, as the good Samaritan he was, Mario then flew the flying ship to bowser's and parked it in his roof.

Mario did all of this with a Brooklyn accent.

Why have I seen no new cartoons trying to save America?

'Cuz it's unpossible to save America at this point.
