The MBoard

This week, the university library that I work at had an auction of crap from their archives that doesn't really belong in there.

I really wanted this one sci-fi art piece, mainly because it's crazy looking and I could score it for cheap. Original valued at $950, I picked it up for $21.

It's from some L. Ron Hubbard "Mission Earth" thing. I couldn't put my finger on why I felt like I really needed to pick it up, and then I remembered this:

The "Mission Earth" piece is from 1986. Meanwhile, the Mega Man 2 box art is from 1988/1989. I think I've found the inspiration for that crappy box art.

Yeah I think you're right, Speed. The crappy Megaman Boxart does look close to identical to that first picture.

Why they would be inspired by THAT of all things is a mystery in and of itself, however. LOOL.

Any idea when the piece was created?

The piece is from 1986. It doesn't look like it was ever used for one of the book covers, just "inspired by" or somesuch.

Edit: I should mention that this is not the original art. It's a litho, #295 out of 900.

I've been back for a while actually just been semi-inactive.

Also that's pretty interesting Speed.
