It looks cool, but I'm a bit disappointed that Capcom's throwing a fangame at us to celebrate Mega Man's 25th.

Also, it should have been called Mega Man x Street Fighter... since the gameplay is Mega Man's.

I'll play it nonetheless.

A FAN GAME for Mega Man's 25th that has Street Fighter with TOP BILLING.  And they pitch, with a straight face, how they really REALLY care and this proves it!  Capcom has made doing something with no effort in a way that tries so hard to look like they really did work hard into an art form.

That said I was slightly interested in the game before Capcom co-opted it, so I'll still give it a try.

Hope it's good, shame this is all we get.

I was thinking about trying to make a MegaMan game due to Capcom's inability to do so, but I wanted to use some kind of gimmick to differenciate the gameplay from the normal Classic MM...  NES style with a twist...  Don't know what the twist is though...  I thought about having Gunstar style co-op, or Shadow Dancer style Rush companion...

Contra style co-op. Bass and Megaman. PS1 graphics resolution with classic sprites for maximum space on the screen at once.

Well, I actually already have been toying about with making it NES style but 16:9 ratio for widescreen.

I'm going to try and recreate a few real levels to see how it plays, can't figure out how to make ladders though :(

16:9 would actually be pretty cool...  and I think a 2 player co-op could be done well if planned out like in Contra.  Not typical Mega Man fare, but it's not a true sequel so why not?  Hell, with all the horrible fan games out there if I had the skill I'd make one too.

Can anyone (ie Rez) think of any games with MegaMan-esque music that isn't actually from MegaMan?

Like Bionic Commando, some of the NES Capcom Disney ones...

Hmmm... well, Mega Man's been a bit all over in the music department but if I had to pick a few I'd say maybe DuckTales 1 and 2, Blaster Master, Strider (Red Dragon could be a good Wily level), Star Tropics 2... uh all of those have one or two Mega Manish tracks...

With capcom-unity being down, you can still get to the direct download apparently.

What's the difference in the versions?

The European version turns the characters into robots and adds lots of "u"s to all the words.

Holy mother##### this is hard. Even with a controller.

I only was able to beat Dhalsim, lost a bunch, and quit. holy hellllll.

Controller will only support analogue for me :(

Those slashy guys with the beam suck. They all seem to have slightly different timings.

It's not bad. I found it pretty easy.

Well, until Vega Stage II. Worst tower climb in any MegaMan game I've ever played and Balrog is a bitch. I can't dodge his jump attacks (and trust me, I tried), his weakness is useless to use against since it's close-ranged (and Balrog is constantly jumping everywhere), and he hits you for 1/6th of your total health.

A lot of love went into this game, I can see that. But the fact that there's no save system makes me not want to replay it just to stop at Balrog again.

In other news, the MegaMan 25th Anniversary (http://jasoncanam.com/mm25.htm) game that is being made by industry devs got a demo if any of you want to try it out.

What are you making it in? I've been working on a ton of stuff in XNA that can basically make any 2D game (sprites with animation, collision systems, text systems that don't rely on SpriteBatch, etc...)

The level design is ass. In some stages I'm practically ignoring almost every enemy on the way to the boss.

I beat Ryu, Dhalsim, Chun Li, and then Blanka, and then I went to Urien's stage and hit a spot where I couldn't move forward at all and I was like "##### this I quit."
Apparently I was supposed to "climb" what appeared to be just a background object that did not look at all like a typical ladder.

I don't even know what the order is, I was just randomly picking them. More than the fact that there's no save system, though, this is clearly not even close to any kind of MegaMan standard. It's not that I expected any better, but I figured it's possible that Capcom would have put some effort into rebalancing and fixing the design flaws of a game that they would put their seal of approval on.

To put it simply, it's more style than substance.

Apparently the game will be getting an update soon.

Maybe with X-Over Mega Man?!?!

I would love to see a Megaman X X Street Fighter.
