Good weapon, good stage theme, and he's so very, very easy to beat. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 3 December 2007, 00:34:59 Bamboo Pandamonium.

And that's the only X game where I can do that. XD For me, I dunno who my favourite Maverick is... I'd like to say Magma Dragoon simply because he has a little backstory (that and the English version accidentally calls him an "Irregular" XD) but I dunno... from the SNES games though, that Speed Ostrich (was it called that?) was awesome. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 3 December 2007, 17:10:58 The mavericks are jokes in MHX.
MHX Storm Tornado > All. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Chron on 3 December 2007, 17:13:52 All of X1 Mavericks were easy. I can beat that game in one sitting getting all the secrets. Overdrive Ostrich. Dragoon does have a pretty cool history, to be honest. He's one of the very view Mavericks with a decent back-story. I remember something like Duff McWhalen being friends with Launch Octopus, too, but I'm not sure. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 3 December 2007, 17:18:10 Ah yeah, Overdrive Ostrich. Sonicspeed Ostrich is his Japanese name or something...
Yeah, Mavericks need more backstory. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Fatso on 3 December 2007, 17:22:39 Checking the Capcom OST on what was once Atomic Fire... Sonic Ostreague.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 3 December 2007, 17:31:36 The X1 mavericks have backstory.
Penguin: Was a member of the polar unit but grew bored of doing nothing and joined the rebellion for the lulz. He doesn't seem to like X much. Eagle: A noble Maverick Hunter who tried to stop Sigma's planned but was defeated and forced to subordination (Most likely hostages were involved and there was nothing he could do.) He wasn't proud of his actions and out right admitted he was maverick. Mammoth: A big reploid stationed at the desert region. He is very violent and likes destruction. He uses his size to look down on those smaller than him. He used this opportunity to join the mavericks to show his power and prove he is the strongest. Has issues with Chill Penguin for some reason. Mandrill: A maverick hunter who wasn't too bright. He went with Sigma since he wasn't sure of what to do. A dim bulb who is rather lazy but gets the job done. Regardless he doesn't seem very enthusiastic in fighting. Armadillo: Loyal to a fault. A model solder who followed Sigma's orders regardless if they were good or evil. Since he follows orders and does whatever Sigma orders him, he felt his actions are not maverick since he was just following orders. Octopus: An arrogant and pompus reploid who perfers grace and style over brute force. He joined to show off his grace and style. Rather vain as well since "even his explosion is beautiful!" Kwuanger: A calm cool and collected reploid. Joined the rebellion out of deciding which side would win. He is very calm and uses logic in the battle field. He also shows some respect to X as he commends him on his ability. Chamelion: A reploid positioned in the recon base. He is a brown noser. He considers those below him as weak and worships those who are above him in power. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Edgecrusher on 3 December 2007, 18:39:01 Launch Octopus. He wins out if only for his "You're going down" intro animation.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: ChaosVortex on 3 December 2007, 18:45:35 Yeah, I loved that back then. He was so badass, even when fighting him.
... MHX took that away. Now he's an "artist". Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 3 December 2007, 18:47:44 Even his explosion is beautiful!
>_> <_< Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Edgecrusher on 3 December 2007, 20:50:25 I refuse to acknowledge that butchery of his character as canon.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 3 December 2007, 20:52:57 I refuse to acknowledge that butchery of his character as cannon.Agreed, it should be put in that cannon and blown across the ocean. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: TriggerUNIT on 3 December 2007, 23:02:08 I like vile... Meh, basically for the nostalgia factor... He looks so much like Baba Fett... Best bounty hunter ever.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Laucorn on 5 December 2007, 21:13:21 Vile. All verisons. Even the crappy Xtreme cameo.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 5 December 2007, 21:17:39 I liked Vile in X8. I didn't like that he had a weakness though.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Laucorn on 5 December 2007, 21:22:52 He has a weakness in all the games actually.
X1 it is either Homing Missile or you could use the Boomerang Cutter. In X3 the Spinning Blades or the Ray Splasher both work well. It's just in X8, where he is weak to Ice he actually reacts like other bosses do. Look at his life in the two games before when you use those weapons, they do considerable damage. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 5 December 2007, 23:38:42 Plus in X8 you can turn the tables on Vile and pwn him using the Cyclops Ride Armor on Bamboo Pandamonium's stage.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Lunchebox on 6 December 2007, 01:25:59 I like vile... Meh, basically for the nostalgia factor... He looks so much like Baba Fett... Best bounty hunter ever. My backpack's got jets Well I'm Boba the Fett Well I bounty hunt for Jabba Hutt To finance my 'Vette wicky wicky woo Well I chill in deep space A mask is over my face Well I deliver the prize But I still narrow my eyes 'Cause my time I don't like to waste. Get down Man, I love Boba Vile. I always wished they developed him, Dynamo, and High Max more. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Fatso on 6 December 2007, 17:12:12 X1 it is either Homing Missile or you could use the Boomerang Cutter. Rolling Shield, actually. Though 'Horming Torpedo' does three damage points (kills in 11 hits), Rolling Shield does four (kills in eight hits). Boomerang Cutter I haven't even tried; I would suppose it does either one or two points. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Laucorn on 6 December 2007, 20:26:39 Ah. It's been a while since I've fought him, pardon my error. I alway usually just use either the missile or X buster on him.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: KPL on 6 December 2007, 22:55:44 Bit and Byte were pretty cool!
But Storm Eagle will always be the maverick-st. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xearez on 6 December 2007, 22:58:45 I like zain the best
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Sub Tank on 7 December 2007, 09:58:29 Mac.

Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Fatso on 7 December 2007, 17:01:22 Mac.Second place for me. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Laucorn on 7 December 2007, 21:32:13 Mac comes 3rd or 4th to me after Violen.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Videoman XX on 8 December 2007, 19:11:18 I would say Dynamo, but he technically never WAS Maverick to begin with.
So I'll just say X6's Ground Scaravich, even though he was as easy as a ball of ****. hehe. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xearez on 8 December 2007, 21:03:04 he was easy and stupid looking lol.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xzeemo on 9 December 2007, 22:41:32 I really like Blaze Heatnix, while his stage sucked majorly, he was a fun boss to beat. Then of course Storm Eagle. I guess I'd throw Commander Yammark and the giant Turtle dude whose name escapes me at the moment.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 9 December 2007, 22:42:13 Rainy Turtloid.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xzeemo on 9 December 2007, 22:51:32 Gracias. That was going to bug me.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 11 December 2007, 12:26:29 I also liked Double. The sadistic reploid he is.Now he was fun to fight, and his pre-battle lines were pretty good too. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 11 December 2007, 12:30:22 "I'm gonna recycle you!"
"He he! You're gonna get hurt X!" "I'm so anxious to rip you apart!" Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 11 December 2007, 12:31:14 Yeah, those ones. They were better than Sigma's ones.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 11 December 2007, 12:32:30 "Prepare to become spacedust!"
"Are you ready for your final journey!" "Tremble with terror! You are finished!" Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 11 December 2007, 12:34:18 Do you have a list of Maverick quotes on hand, or do you just remember them all?
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 11 December 2007, 12:42:33 "Hute! Hute!"
"Take this!" "Time to get Serious!" "Feel it!" "It's not over yet!" "Get ready!" "Kee!" "I'll show you no mercy. Now get ready!" "I've been waiting to fight with you!" "Show me what you've got!" "Forgive me Zero!" "Stay with me brotha!" "Ok. I'll do it!" "It was our destiny to fight!" "Show me your true power!" "My fate is sealed. I have no choice!" Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 11 December 2007, 12:45:13 There's a couple there for X and Zero that I don't remember hearing.
Anyway, back to the topic... Vile was awesome. Am I the only one who liked him in X8, despite the ice weakness making him too easy? Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 11 December 2007, 12:45:49 Bamboo Pandamonium + Ride Armor + Vile showing up = Pwnage.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 11 December 2007, 13:02:19 "Ha ha ha ha ha! Why don't you just give up now and get it over with? The
world as you know it? Mavericks? Kiss it all goodbye! Mayhem, doom, and destruction! That's what we were built for!" I think that's probably Vile's best line in X8. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 11 December 2007, 13:05:38 "I'll get you!"
"You're finished!" "WHAT!?" "So it begins!" "Step into battle!" "Power!" "Here we go!" "Let's get started." "Time to get started." "Oooh Oooh!" "Enough talk! Let's fight!" "Here we go!" "I'll show you how an artist fights!" "I'll see if you are operating up to spec." "Let's get this party started." "Yaa haa hoo!!!" "I'm REEEADDDYY!!!" "NEAYP!" Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Dr. on 11 December 2007, 14:32:06 Rainy Turtloid.Definately, Xero. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Androcles on 14 December 2007, 02:44:14 For me, I dunno who my favourite Maverick is... I'd like to say Magma Dragoon simply because he has a little backstory (that and the English version accidentally calls him an "Irregular" XD) Yes, and plus he has the Street Fighter moves. I always found the whole description of Dragoon to be hilarious. "He betrayed the Irregular Hunter and hid himself in a volcano." LOL! A very awkward but straightforward explanation! He has to be my favorite stage boss (of the various 8 bosses). Wheel Gator also deserves to be mentioned, because if you really pay attention it looks like he's swimming in a pool of blood! I always thought it was being pumped into his chamber from all the victims he was killing in his attack on the city. Or maybe it's just my twisted imagination... But of course my overall favorite is Double, because he seemed so harmless at first, but he taught those arrogant hunters a leson. I also thought it was funny how X put his complete trust in Double, even though he'd just met him (not to mention he has a rather suspicious name). X truly was naive, just like Double said. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Panda on 14 December 2007, 03:21:22 X1: Storm Eagle - The only person to rival Zero as coolest machine ever.
X2: Bubble Crab - He's just so cute. X3: Blast Hornet - Flies around and attacks you with it's own children. X4: Magma Dragoon - Backstory and coolest personality. X5: Squid Adler - He just looks awesome, really. X6: Commander Yammark - With competition like Shield Sheldon, he was an easy winner. X7: Splash Warfly - Again, not much competition. X8: Gravity Antonion - Basically the same as Gravity Beetle, but in 3d. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 14 December 2007, 03:39:08 Nine Tails.
He knew how to Haduken! Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 14 December 2007, 03:43:51 Sano.
He knew how to spell gud! Y'know, Magma knew all that junk too, and he also did everything else Akuma did. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Captain Sanoguchi on 14 December 2007, 04:51:26 Yeah, well X can do the Haduken also.
Dr.Light can cosplay as Ryu. Did'ja know there were even some unused sprites from one of the Megman fighting games depicting Megaman doing the motions of the Haduken. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 14 December 2007, 05:08:13 Did'ja know there was an unused sprite of Bass playing mother #####ing football!?
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Wizkid on 14 December 2007, 12:33:36 Web Spider is THE best.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 14 December 2007, 14:03:20 Y'know, Magma knew all that junk too, and he also did everything else Akuma did. I wouldn't go that far, he was missing a few of Akuma's moves. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 14 December 2007, 14:17:34 Raging demon, teleportation, and the hurricane kick. Those are the ones he didn't use.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: KPL on 14 December 2007, 14:20:09 I didn't see the Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon) or Ashura Senkuu. (Teleport thingy)
He has the basic moves though. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Panda on 14 December 2007, 14:22:26 I didn't see the Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon) Man, that move rocked in XvSF. If Magma had it then you'd never beat him. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 14 December 2007, 14:23:34 Raging demon, teleportation, and the hurricane kick. Those are the ones he didn't use. What about the mid-air Hadouken? Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 14 December 2007, 14:43:20 That one I'm unsure about, since Magma can use a giga attack where hundreds of fireballs come down at you diagonally. This reminds me a lot of one of Akuma's moves. IMO I believe thats his version of the Zanku hadoken.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 14 December 2007, 14:47:52 It's not the same tho, since Magma launches a stream of fire into the sky before the fireballs rain down.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 14 December 2007, 14:56:47 And the attack that looks like Shinku Hadoken comes from his mouth, they're all a bit different. But it's what I believe, nothing more.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 14 December 2007, 15:04:30 I can understand your point, I'm just saying they don't seem like that to me.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: preventerWIND on 14 December 2007, 15:13:53 Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xearez on 14 December 2007, 15:18:00 I like magma dagoons flying kick thats awesome(and easy to dodge).
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: KPL on 14 December 2007, 15:39:42 All of the moves are slightly diffrent, but obviously based on Ryu, Ken and Akuma.
They are pretty awesome, but he was kind of easy to defeat. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Cherry on 14 December 2007, 17:40:40 The best Maverick has to be... Double.
I don't know why, but I always picture his chubby disguise form as being impact-resistant while his true form is more attack-oriented. I don't know where I picked up that idea... Strange, isn't it? Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Majikn on 14 December 2007, 18:28:14 Maybe if you stopped trying to pound on fat people you wouldn't have that impression.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: ChaosVortex on 14 December 2007, 18:34:48 Maybe she needs to stop watching X-Men.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Chron on 14 December 2007, 21:22:09 The best Maverick has to be... Double. That would make sense. Double was a really obvious double-agent, but to be perfectly honest he wound up being kind of cool, if not a little random. Still not as top-notch as Dynamo, though. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 15 December 2007, 13:45:45 I dunno, I rank Double higher than Dynamo. Dynamo was too easy to beat, and his personality was sorta annoying.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Blitzkrieg on 15 December 2007, 18:03:18 Raging demon, teleportation, and the hurricane kick. Those are the ones he didn't use. What about the mid-air Hadouken? He could shoot fireballs IN THE AIR. ALL DIAGONAL DOWN ONTOP OF ME! I didn't even know that was POSSIBLE! ...And Squid Adler ftw Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Laucorn on 15 December 2007, 22:48:39 Dynamo was kinda easy to beat.
Using Double's Weakness actually made him harder, which is a first (and only) for X bosses. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 15 December 2007, 23:08:26 That's true, those floating mines he releases were a pain.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xearez on 16 December 2007, 16:05:52 I agree with kamon.
Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Zen on 19 December 2007, 04:19:29 I always liked Bit, at least aesthetically. Byte and his combination form... not so much.

I'd start out with just God, because the karmachine could give people the wrong impression. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: SacredFireman on 25 December 2007, 04:33:02 Magma Dragoon.

megaman.neoseeker.com/images/uploads/boomer_kuwanger_mini.jpg You're telling me that's a bull. The only thing it has familiar to a bull are the horns. Notice all of the other Mavericks actually look like the animals they've been named after. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Xero on 8 January 2008, 20:59:06 ...
Kuwanger is a Japanese Beetle. If Kuwanger was a bull he'd be bigger and muscular. Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Kamon on 8 January 2008, 21:01:01 There's traces of bull alright, and it's not in Kuwanger's design.

Note: In the English version of Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Boomer Kuwanger was renamed Boomerang Kuwanger. Kuwanger is a portmanteau word between kuwagata (which is Japanese for "stag beetle") and boomerang with an "er" suffix. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mavericks#Boomer_Kuwanger Title: Re: Greatest Maverick Post by: Johncarllos on 9 January 2008, 19:24:16 Odd.
