Title: Into the record books! Post by: Kamon on 29 April 2008, 21:43:28 I found this under the news section on Capcom-Europe's site.
"MEGA MAN TAKES THE RECORD BOOK BY STORM The most recent version of the Guinness Book of Records (Gaming Edition) Capcom's very own Mega Man has earned the title of 'Most Number of Games In a Single Series'. Michael Pattison - Senior Director of Marketing for Capcom Europe- had this to say "From as long as I can remember, Mega Man has been my all time favorite gaming hero. Its nice to see some recognition for the mighty man in blue". The latest Mega Man game - Mega Man ZX Advent - is available now for Nintendo DS" The original page (http://www.capcom-europe.com/news/detail/Mega_Man_takes_the_record_book_by_storm/388.aspx) Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 29 April 2008, 21:58:13 Yeah, nice to see some recognition.
Now give us MegaMan 9 Capcom. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Johncarllos on 29 April 2008, 21:59:38 The cash cow has been milked to the point where it's a withered shell of it's old cash producing self.
Was it worth it for this record? Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: preventerWIND on 29 April 2008, 22:23:20 To them it seems so.
But the fans want the tired old cattle to be put to rest.. Who wants steaks!? Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Johncarllos on 29 April 2008, 22:27:11 MM steak= MM9 and X9.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: preventerWIND on 29 April 2008, 22:49:14 One day we'll use those A1 sauces.. One day..
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 29 April 2008, 23:04:29 X1 sauce is better.
Also, what's the exact number of games in the series? I've always been curious. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 29 April 2008, 23:06:09 Over 30 I'd say.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 29 April 2008, 23:09:13 Just found a site with the info:
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9785&Itemid=2&limit=1&limitstart=4 : Site The largest videogame series – not including spin-offs in other genres – is the Capcom platform game series Mega Man, starring the character designed by Keiji Inafune. There are 17 games in the “classic” series starring the original character. There are also eleven Mega Man X games, four Mega Man Zero games, two Mega Man ZX games, three Mega Man Legends games, six Mega Man Battle Network games plus three Mega Man Star Force games making a total of 46. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: preventerWIND on 29 April 2008, 23:14:43 Da-yum.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 29 April 2008, 23:23:31 Doing some math...
MegaMan 1-8 MegaMan and Bass Rockboard: That's Paradise MegaMan Soccer MegaMan Battle & Chase MegaMan Game Boy 1-5 MegaMan Powered Up MegaMan: Power Fighters MegaMan: Power Battles That adds up to 19, and I know I'm forgetting junk like the Wonderswan BS and that Chinese strategy game. Also, "6 Battle Network games" doesn't leave room for Network Transmission, not that we really want to acknowledge that, anyway. So there's MORE than 46 games, basically. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Someguy on 30 April 2008, 00:15:06 There's about 120 Megaman games all together
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 30 April 2008, 00:17:09 ...List them?
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Mikero on 30 April 2008, 00:19:20 Too bad the only reason there's so many is because they just whore out MM as much as possible to make crap games come out every four seconds.

Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Johncarllos on 30 April 2008, 01:48:54 My goodness.
But the award was most non-spinoff titles. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 30 April 2008, 01:55:12 Yeah, otherwise it would've been the Mario series. It said, on that same page, something like over 110 games he's been in.
Yes, most of them are spin-offs, so yeah. I guess they were a little strict on which games "counted", but even then, it's all subjective. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Mikero on 30 April 2008, 02:18:42 I doubt multiple versions of the same game count too. I.E. MMBN3 White and Blue count as one game.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 30 April 2008, 02:28:07 Obviously.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Johncarllos on 30 April 2008, 02:35:07 I still will count Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue as different games.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 30 April 2008, 02:44:04 Because they were different enough to be counted different, I guess.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Johncarllos on 30 April 2008, 02:51:34 Same game.
Different Pokemon. Still so different to me.... Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ChaosVortex on 30 April 2008, 13:56:34 Not to me, but yes, they were more unique.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Orange Devil on 3 May 2008, 18:58:32 I've been waiting for this.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ChaosVortex on 3 May 2008, 19:12:12 I don't find it anything to scoff about.
As someone has already previously stated (or stated something similar), having the "most" games made just means just that, that the company has been spawning the same game character the most successfully. So, you have to think about quality or quantity. In this case, I'd prefer the former. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Orange Devil on 8 May 2008, 14:08:48 Sure, Capcom spews out alot of crap games. But more than half of them are good. And that's still a hell of alot of good games.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 8 May 2008, 21:16:25 Sure, Capcom spews out alot of crap games. Yes, but we're talking about the MegaMan series, not all of Capcom's games in General. In General they're pretty good. MegaMan... not so much anymore. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Speed Racer on 9 May 2008, 04:59:25 Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Xzeemo on 9 May 2008, 15:33:15 MM Steak= Starforce 4
am i rite??? lol!!!1111!! Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: MOX on 9 May 2008, 20:46:16 NO
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 9 May 2008, 20:49:36 Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Xzeemo on 9 May 2008, 23:17:31 MM steak= MM9 and X9. I would pay mucho for all three. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 10 May 2008, 03:00:42 MM Steak= Starforce 4 Don't even JOKE like that. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: preventerWIND on 10 May 2008, 03:09:33 Maybe if it had freezer burn.. then yes, it is a steak.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Winged Warrior on 10 May 2008, 04:07:28 I still consider Classic, X, Z, ZX, BN, SF, PU, and the archade games to be of DIFFERENT series myself...
So despite gennis, who does better making beer, I do beleive that MM broke any record other than "most likely to whore out their character again soon" Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: megajosh2 on 11 May 2008, 17:43:00 Jesus #####ing Cthulhu...120 games...and just imagine how many of those were made after 2001.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Xzeemo on 13 May 2008, 15:19:08 How many actually were made after 01?
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Kamon on 14 May 2008, 14:03:41 I count 25.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Xzeemo on 14 May 2008, 15:59:04 So it's really not that bad. It's just that those 25 have generally been absolute trash :(
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Winged Warrior on 14 May 2008, 20:09:48 MMPU.
MMPU WAS OKAY. <.< Wasn't it? I don't have a PSP so... Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 14 May 2008, 20:22:43 MMPU is probably my favorite MegaMan game ever and I stand by it as being the best.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 14 May 2008, 21:05:26 MMPU was pretty good. It's one of my favorites now. Probably because of Construction mode.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Kamon on 16 May 2008, 16:03:51 Of the 25 games made after 2001, 5 were actually really good games. MMPU is one of those 5. So's Command Mission.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ASR on 16 May 2008, 16:18:49 And Maverick Hunter X. What are the other two?
Despite enjoying ZX and ZXA, I don't count them as good MegaMan games. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Kamon on 16 May 2008, 16:25:37 I wasn't counting MHX because of the plot retcon.
The other 3 I counted were Battle Network, BN2 and BN3. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 16 May 2008, 21:22:11 Bn1 was made in 2000. Bn2 was made in 2001. Therefore only BN3 was after 2001.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: ChaosVortex on 16 May 2008, 21:24:26 It's possible to make two games of the same series in the same year. I'm sure Capcom's done that. You sure it's after 2001?
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 16 May 2008, 21:28:03 Wait, correction, I'm a year off somehow. BN1 was released September 2001, BN2 was released in Summer 2002 in the US and Europe, but released in 2001 for Japan.
BN1: 10/30/01 BN2: 06/17/02 BN3: 06/24/03 ...Which is stupid because on the BN1 title screen it says 2000. And BN2 says 2001. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Fatso on 16 May 2008, 21:41:08 Mega Man X was released early '94 in North America and the copyright says '93.
I think you'll find that the case for pretty much all the Classic games as well. Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: Mikero on 17 May 2008, 04:36:25 Well duh. They obviously copyright it before it's even being made, and it clearly takes them at least a year to make one of those games.
Title: Re: Into the record books! Post by: NovaMan XP on 17 May 2008, 04:44:34 Yeah, that's what I figured after intense thinking.
