Title: Reliving the good times
Post by: Winged Warrior on 3 May 2008, 22:42:24
So, Opal got a gamecube about a month ago, And I recently decided it would be a good idea to get the gameboy player for it.

I plugged it up, and to test it, I grabbed my trusty Megaman Battlenetwork 3: White.

I spent a good hour from the beginning reveling in the fun I once had, and still am able to enjoy with BN's early years. How I missed Dex, Yai, and Mayl. How I needed to pull out my chip folder and start virus busting again.

I must be getting old.

Anyone else whip out MMBN1-3 for fun anymore?

Or Has 4-6 really made you that bitter?

I think I'm going to play it through again for old times sake...

I played BN1 and BN2, and I just finished replaying BN3 again, but I'm stuck at Serenade's door because I really don't feel like getting all 200 chips by myself again.

I still like the first three BNs.

I still play all of the BN games. The ONLY thing I haven't done in any of them is complete BN1's library. Damned "special" chip trader. {has fully beaten/collected everything else}

I love the Special Chip trader in BN1, it gives you EVERYTHING but LifeAura.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Kamon on 4 May 2008, 14:06:17
The Special Chip Trader is a great way of getting Hero Swords.

I'm still playing through BN2's Hard Mode, trying to S Rank Navi's and stuff.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: NovaMan XP on 4 May 2008, 20:08:44
I still haven't gotten Hard Mode normally... Eh. I still need to get all the chips. I have 229/250, and in order to fight BassDeluxe and get LifeAura, Bass v2 and v3 I need to get 247/250. T_T

Or Has 4-6 really made you that bitter?

Yes.

Network Transmission and Battle Chip Challenge were insults, but Battle Network 4-6 were nothing less of fecal matter directed at our faces.

I still haven't gotten Hard Mode normally... Eh. I still need to get all the chips. I have 229/250, and in order to fight BassDeluxe and get LifeAura, Bass v2 and v3 I need to get 247/250. T_T

I spent hours slotting in chips into the trader to get what I'm missing, and still need a good 10 chips to be able to fight Bass.  I just gave up.  Though I still miss being able to have 10 of any chip in my folder and just soft resetting to get my chips back if the one the trader spits out isn't what I want.

I still remember those days, good times. I still go back and play 2 and 3 when I get the urge. I completely beat them both >.> Kinda a BN fanatic... but only for the old ones.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Winged Warrior on 7 May 2008, 22:05:28
Flame man for the fourth time in MMBN3.

I forgot how much errand running I have to do in this freaking game...

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: NovaMan XP on 7 May 2008, 22:22:35
FlameMan's Scenario was probably the most tedious part of BN3. Well, then there's the Time Trials.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Xzeemo on 7 May 2008, 23:45:12
Yea, that part sucked. The only game with more errand running than that was BN 4 with the errands for the contestants. >.< I refuse to replay the game for that mostly.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: NovaMan XP on 8 May 2008, 02:25:20
I got 244/250 chips in BN2. :O

1 of them is DropDown, which I'll have to go hunt a Popper3 for like I did for Lavadragon... the other two are chips I can buy but need 40,000 zenny total to get them.

The last three will be from Bass Deluxe... who will appear after I get the first 3 chips...

I just MIGHT be able to finish this... but then again, after this I'll have to do all the PAs too, but that's not as bad, since I only have 12 more to go and there's 31 PAs.

Post by: NovaMan XP on 15 May 2008, 22:58:43
Blue has FolderBack. You can't beat that.

Also, I got all the chips and PAs in BN2. :0

...Then I found out I have to also get 10 secret chips through netbattling with a friend. Yeah, I think I'm done. Screw Hard Mode, maybe I'll cheat to get the last 10 chips later.

Game Over.

Or to fit MMZ1

MISSION FAILED

what was that anyway? Game Over when you lose a life and Mission Failed when you're out of lives?

Nah, Chain Rod. Even then, wrong topic to be discussing this.

FolderBack giga-chip FTW!

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Winged Warrior on 20 May 2008, 07:43:05
back on topic. A while back I defeated .exe3

The level of difficulty was horrible...

I used to have trouble with alpha... This time I forgot to re-equip my main folder after upping my PA numbers. I was using a trash folder of Items I'd "ADD" or use quickly to open slots for my PA.

... Defeated Bass and Alpha first try...

I put saved it and put it down, havn't picked it up since.

Alpha was easy if you had Woodguts style

The tornado tears him to pieces

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

I had to borrow Hub Batch from a friend to beat Alpha the first time. I didn't/don't use the kinds of P.A.s that would break him open AND hurt him.

Not really on topic but I'd like a port of the original MMBN games to the DS with WiFi play.

Multiplayer game links with MMBN isn't popular anymore.  :(

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

BN 5 double team is for DS. It's alright.

Doubt it.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

They really should make link cables for the DS to play multiplayer GBA games.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: preventerWIND on 18 July 2008, 09:09:47
You'd probably get something as fat as the older DS if they did that. Adding the link system to the GBA engine in the DS would make it hefty.

NO THX

Megaman battle network 5 team colonal was really good. :-*

No, BN5 Was a sorry excuse for a game. The battlechips sucked, The story sucked, the navis sucked, The souls sucked,  the bosses sucked, the gameplay sucked, the sprites sucked, that stupid #####ing water world REALLY sucked, and all the little weeaboos that liked 5 SUCK.

We are talking about the Era before battlenetwork made you feel like capcom, and it's affiliates, were weakening the English speaking community by giving them games that, in the process of playing them, would actually turn your brain to mush faster than watching a 'Barney the dinosaur' marathon.

Adding the link system to the GBA engine in the DS would make it hefty.
And it wouldn't work...

I mean...

Really...

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Cherry on 16 August 2008, 22:36:36
I still load my BN3 game from time to time.  I mainly use it to beat up Protoman and try to beat my record against him.  If I could re-fight BassGS, I would do that, instead.

I prefer the Bass chip in White over Bass+ in Blue.  Since the Bass chip is always the one taking up my Giga slot from 3 onwards, I don't really care about FolderBack.  ...Assuming I can work up the motivation to fight Bass in 4 or 5.  I only have four or so chips to go in 4, but I just can't bring myself to play it.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Winged Warrior on 17 August 2008, 11:15:22
Four, When I first picked it up, Wasn't too horribly bad. I was quite excited about the whole soul feature. Though playing it a fourth time to get all six souls made my insides turn against me. I died that day, on the inside, literally.

Bass was never a character I could stand, Especially in the EXE. Somehow they were able to give two personalities to 'pompous idiot with self sufficiency issues.'

Protoman was... fail. The first BN game I picked up, I noticed that protoman was more of an unicorn (that sounds odd), with his silvery mane and single horn, Than the rarely appearing Eddie ripoff in MM IV.

As much as I liked the whole, Megaman tempted by evil bull#####, I never used it. The penalty was poor and weak, I found more power in my PAs and my unbalanced chip folder than one single Dark chip. I was bitter that my second line of chips was corrupted and in it's place these useless insults to my strategies.

I was told, through FAQ, Walk through, and my siblings with the game, that once you hit 1HP, You wouldn't have to do any of the work in battle because megaman would morph into an evil black blur of a rage... However that also didn't appeal to me lest I play another Battle chip Challenge.

It was little more than a letdown. Full syncro got in the way, the torniment was a joke, and as far as I'm concerned HUB died at the end of 3... LIKE THE GAME SAID! (before that bull##### cop-out cut scene.)

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: ChaosVortex on 17 August 2008, 22:31:22
...

Torniment. Heh.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Mikero on 18 August 2008, 00:03:27
First of all Hub died before any of the series. The MM = Hub stuff is crap. He's not Hub. Hub was a human being, he died. MegaMan is somehow by some fake science a copy of Hub's brain patterns or some stupid thing.... It's very dumb.

Also, I'm sure you didn't LITERALLY die inside, haha. I love it when people say "literally" just a bit too often.

Unfortunately, my copy of MMBN2 can no longer hold saved data, I guess the internal battery died.  I play BN3 sometimes though; I've got some pretty nice folders.

I actually enjoyed Network Transmission; it reminds me of the Classic Megaman games.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Winged Warrior on 23 August 2008, 02:53:47
Yes... The battery... That makes total sence.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: preventerWIND on 23 August 2008, 02:58:22
Yes, it does make sense. The internal batteries are known to run out.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: ASR on 23 August 2008, 02:59:12
Hence old NES and SNES games that no longer save.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: preventerWIND on 23 August 2008, 03:00:24
The Pokemon advance games had that problem, and they released something to fix them apparently.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: NovaMan XP on 23 August 2008, 03:07:42
My Gold version had that problem, and I actually had to open it up and replace the battery myself.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 23 August 2008, 04:48:50
Newer games use FLASH memory so batteries running out is no problem.

However, if you've played your games for 10 years straight, then they wouldn't work anymore.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Ice Wave on 23 August 2008, 05:19:18
My Gold version had that problem, and I actually had to open it up and replace the battery myself.

Gold and Silver were notorious for having horrible internal battery issues.  Mine died years ago and still won't save to this day.  Same thing with my copy of Megaman Zero.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

I poured Coke in my Pokemon Red when I got that battery problem and it started to save again

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: preventerWIND on 23 August 2008, 05:34:32
THIS IS WHY I'M A POP ADDICT!

Coke is the greatest, I hear they even spray it on some wheels at auto-shops. To clean it or some other jazz.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

That's strange, all my SNES games still save just fine (except for that damned hockey game, which I don't play anymore anyways). I don't have any NES games that save, so no way to check up on that.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Mikero on 24 August 2008, 00:53:12
A lot of old Sega stuff, like with Game Gear games, had their internal batteries run out rather quickly.

Why do we choose to put something as clearly corrosive as cola into our bodies? He said knowingly, while drinking a Diet Pepsi MAX.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: preventerWIND on 24 August 2008, 00:56:24
I hate those new gimmicks like Diet Pepsi MAX. Its just a bunch of useless placeholders in the fridge; blocking my supply of Coke Zer- I mean, Diet Coke.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Mikero on 24 August 2008, 01:42:26
Diet Pepsi MAX and Coke Zero are two different things. DPMax is an energy drink but doesn't taste like ass like every other energy drink. I'm trying to figure out what makes Coke Zero different from Diet Coke. The nutrition facts are exactly the same.

The only reason I bought a Diet Pepsi MAX is because I had a hangover and wanted all that energy ##### to put my metabolism into overdrive. Otherwise I wouldn't have it.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: preventerWIND on 24 August 2008, 01:51:50
The only difference between Coke Zero and Diet Coke is that Zero is made to taste like regular Coke. But even then it tastes different.

Only reason I don't like Diet Pepsi MAX is because its stupid to make it an energy drink, when you can actually buy an energy drink. Its just a bunch of gimmicks to the company to get you to buy more drinks, like Pepsi Blue..

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Mikero on 24 August 2008, 02:12:59
The only thing I DO like about Diet Pepsi MAX is that it's an energy drink that doesn't taste awful. Because every single other one is horrible.

Pepsi Blue was a terrible idea that I'd repressed until now. I'm still gagging on that taste.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

Relentless is the finest energy drink.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

I think they use different artificial sweeteners for Coke Zero and Diet Coke.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

Both use aspartame.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

There goes that theory.

I'm really stumped. They do taste different though.

I smell lack of proper disclosure!!!

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Abominator on 24 August 2008, 23:30:30
I thought Max and Zero used aspartame (which gives you cancer) whereas the Diet drinks used Nutrasweet (which makes you sterile)?

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Fatso on 24 August 2008, 23:32:20
I'd always thought Zero used sucralose, for some reason.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times
Post by: Mikero on 24 August 2008, 23:44:43
I've checked. All of those diet ones, including Zero, use aspartame. Max uses aspartame and adds ginseng and extra caffeine. I want one that uses Splenda.

I'm OK with Diet. Zero is disgusting.

Title: Re: Reliving the good times

I don't mind either now but they must have changed the formula of Zero because when it first came out I tried it and wished I was drinking motor oil instead. But now it's fine.
