Title: Lost Winds Post by: Morgan Guyer on 14 May 2008, 23:37:53 As some of you might know, WiiWare hit monday. Out of the selection, I bought Lost Winds and played it to the end (was only about 3 hours long).
But my God... What an excellent 3 hours. Buy it, buy it now, it's a must have if you own a Wii. http://www.frontier.co.uk/games/lostwinds/ Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ASR on 14 May 2008, 23:40:37 I bought it last night. I was playing it for about 30 minutes before I switched to my nightly dose of Seinfeld and hit the sack.
I really liked what I played so far, and I mean a lot. It's got that amateur-feel to it, but the very warm, friendly kind. Great graphics and art style, wonderful atmosphere, and obviously intuitive controls. I'll play some more later tonight. Keep in mind I've played nothing but MegaMan for the entire month so this is like, a breath of fresh air. Not that MegaMan isn't fresh air, but too much can be a bit problematic in my case. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Morgan Guyer on 14 May 2008, 23:48:05 They're already planning a sequel:
"... forthcoming LostWinds sequel containing amazing new gameplay as Toku and Enril's incredible adventure to save Mistralis continues." -FRONTIER Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: preventerWIND on 15 May 2008, 00:00:51 I'm right her- uh..
*leaves thread* Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Majikn on 15 May 2008, 00:16:13 I keep making water spew out of this plant thing.
I haven't even, like, done anything and I'm already impressed. Thanks for recommending it. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ASR on 15 May 2008, 00:43:44 I've had my eyes on it since they first announced the launch titles for WiiWare.
Pop and Defend Your Castle look decent, too, but not anywhere near Lost Winds. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Johncarllos on 15 May 2008, 01:31:10 'Defend your Castle' can be played online anyways.
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ASR on 15 May 2008, 01:44:33 Exactly. I'm just a sucker for the art style they used, all arts-and-craftsy. Look up the screenshots, you'll see what I mean. I love stuff like that.
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ChaosVortex on 15 May 2008, 03:52:30 I have no idea what this is and am slightly interested, but I'm quite busy playing Metal Gear Solid anyway. I'll check it out in the future.
*goes back to playing* Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 15 May 2008, 12:59:39 The game may be fun as what the people in here in here said it is, but 3 hours? Sorry, but I can't waste $10 on that.
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Abominator on 15 May 2008, 18:27:38 It looks great, but WiiWare ain't out here til next week.
Funnily enough, the style of it reminded me of you, Morg. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ASR on 16 May 2008, 02:09:33 The game may be fun as what the people in here in here said it is, but 3 hours? Sorry, but I can't waste $10 on that. Tons of people pay $20 for new-release DVD's every day with less than 3 hours of video on most. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 16 May 2008, 03:37:00 tons of people pay $20 for new-release DVD's every day with less than 3 hours of video on most. Yeah, but I don't. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ASR on 16 May 2008, 04:02:41 Which is why I didn't specifically insinuate that you did.
I'm just saying that a game like this is a sweet deal despite what you're thinking. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Mikero on 16 May 2008, 04:30:07 I recently bought Superbad and Knocked Up for nearly 40 bucks each, but I do think 10$ for a 3 hour game is a bit pricey. You can't compare the two really, movies and games. There's just no workable common ground for a decent comparison.
That said, I might check this game out. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Morgan Guyer on 16 May 2008, 05:19:53 Funnily enough, the style of it reminded me of you, Morg. Yeah, I eat up that kind of #####. Wii needs games with more style. I recently bought Superbad and Knocked Up for nearly 40 bucks each, but I do think 10$ for a 3 hour game is a bit pricey. You can't compare the two really, movies and games. There's just no workable common ground for a decent comparison. Think about it this way: If they release, say, 3 more Lost Winds installments, each $10.00, that's only $40.00 you've spent. That's $10.00 less than the average Wii game. You're paying to play a game in sections. ... Or paying to play "early." Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Mikero on 16 May 2008, 05:52:59 I hate the idea of paying to play a game in sections but at least that's not a horrible price like the stupid .hack// games. But only 12hours of play for 40$ isn't great.
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Abominator on 16 May 2008, 13:07:44 Well, they'll no doubt take the length criticism on board.
They must just have wanted it out for WiiWare launch. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: ASR on 16 May 2008, 15:00:43 Regardless, I still haven't beaten it yet, so I can't talk much about replay value. I can still only just say that it's very unique, stylish, and fun, so until it ends I can keep advocating it without bringing up the short length.
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Morgan Guyer on 16 May 2008, 22:22:39 Well, they'll no doubt take the length criticism on board. Keep in mind, they only have 43MB to work with. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: TheRedPriest on 16 May 2008, 22:54:44 :: does not like digital only distribution ::
Limitations such as size and lack of secure physical media are major turn offs. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Morgan Guyer on 17 May 2008, 00:44:34 :: does not like digital only distribution :: It's only $10.00... And you can always back up the game and your save on an SD card and burn them to a CD. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Dizzi on 17 May 2008, 02:50:26 bahh wiiware
you know a games terrible when... Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Abominator on 17 May 2008, 02:54:43 When...?
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Dizzi on 17 May 2008, 02:58:00 when its too underfunded to be put in a store
Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Mikero on 17 May 2008, 03:13:03 That's not really how WiiWare works, actually.
:: does not like digital only distribution :: Yep. Title: Re: Lost Winds Post by: Abominator on 17 May 2008, 16:25:09 when its too underfunded to be put in a store A lot of good things never appear in stores. Anyway: Learn to capitalise and punctuate. |
