Hey, looks like a PROPER Wario game for once.
And... is that Captain Syrup I spy? Awesome.

Looks like those little things are the sprites from Wario World or something...

... doesn't look like a bad game at all, strangely. If it's as fun as Wario Land 4, it's gold.

I loved the Wario Land games. I heard about this not too long ago, it's coming out in Japan very very soon.

It looks marvelous.

I want more WarioWare. Badly.

What it SHOULDN'T be like is that Master of Disguise nonsense. That game was so bad I can't even stomach it.

I liked it. Mostly because it was treasure grabban' enemy smashan' fun like Wario SHOULD be.
Some minor annoyances here and there, but it was a decent adventure. Not WL or WL4 level stuff, but very playable.
It also has Terror Misu.

Unlike Wario Ware, which I find offensive.
With the exception of Mona.

I love WarioWare too.

Especially the 9-Volt micro games. Mmm...

Anyway, the sprites in this game are hand drawn. With a pencil.

I knew a kid who hated chocolate. We always made fun of him for it.

It's not Wario.
It's a collection of barely-interesting mini-games strung together in a series of illogical events with an established character jammed in to make people buy it.

It can be fun, but it tries way too hard at times. The mini-games do usually have the Wario level of absurdity.

Did I mention there's Mona?

Exactly. I played them and It's just a bunch of simple action games crammed together at a high speed. STOP THE TIMER. DODGE THE TRUCK. DO SOMETHING ABSURD REALLY FAST.

Wario Land 4 is sadly the only real Wario game I've ever played, next to Wario World. Wario World was alright, not as fun.

Graphically and gameplay-wise, this game is gonna be a blast.

Oh, yeeeeah.
The original Wario Land is awesome, II is bearable but III is kind of a snore.

It's all worth a solid play, though, especially the first one.

I don't see how drawn sprites are any better than sprited sprites.

Either you draw well, or you sprite well, or neither or both. If the sprites are sprited well, they'll be great. If the sprites are drawn well, they'll be great.

I might've liked WarioWare more (or rather, at all) if they'd made up a new character for it.

Imagine Mega Man X on the SNES.

Now imagine what could be done if the sprites were at HD resolution.
Obviously, just spriting them by MSPaint isn't going to work out so well. Drawing them does.

Ugh, I watched the trailers for that. The animation is so choppy and shoddy in general that it makes those fantastically detailed sprites a complete waste of time and quality.

That actually looks pretty cool.
I've only played Wario Land 2, so I don't really know what to expect.
I'd rather Nintendo release a new Wario Ware.
Still, I hope I'll actually have money when this reaches the states.

That might be true except that what I said about how if it's done well in either medium, it's done well. You can say that HD MMX would be better, but that's just obvious since they didn't even have to possibility to make sprites that way back then. I think in this day and age they could probably sprite something much more complicated than back then that would have great resolution.

And the fluidity of the animation is based more on how well they animate, and not the medium. I've seen incredible animations with paint. I've seen great animations with MS Paint. The fact I've seen better animations more often in the traditional pencil medium isn't important, that craft is just older and more refined.

So again what I mean is, if it's done well in either medium, it will be great. An apple is an apple, red or green or yellow.

I think I found a release date for Wario Land: Shake It in case anyone is interested.

As of currently it's set to be released on September 29, 2008 in the US.
I think it's supposed to be released in Europe on September 26 under the title of
Wario Land: Shake Dimension.

You can't make many fluid animations when you only have so much space for sprite data.
Technical limitations force the artists hand.
But you're the animator, so I'll let you have this one. I concede.

This game looks amazing. It's exactly what I think is needed to revive 2D gaming.
