Title: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: von Teelio on 10 October 2008, 19:26:56 (http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g264/abcdefg08/Picture011.jpg) The picture above is perhaps one of the most amazing animals I've ever had. A fairly old boxer dog whom I've had for half of my life was put down this morning due to a severe cancer infection on his rear hindpaw. The family took him to numerous vets and they all gave a half-assed hypothesis on what the growth was from. Parents didn't have the money to get the paw, much less the leg amputated, which made the infection spread throughout his entire body. We've taken him to many, and most of them said it was, in fact, cancer. The growth grew to where his paw was as large as an average softball. It grew worse until he started to get gangreen. We couldn't wait any longer and he was put down today; Friday morning. He's been one of the very few living beings that kept me sane on this damned planet. He was unique... Something about him was so fascinating. Everybody could read his mind just by looking at his face. He had traits and a personality like an average human. I loved him to death, but this was all inevitable in the long run... It's amazing how people like us can be so attached to an animal, whether it be a canine, feline, or even a pet fish. I know I'm not the only one undergoing or has undergone such emptiness, which is why I would like to hear your stories of how you went and undergone a pet's passing. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 10 October 2008, 19:40:27 You have my condolences.
My dad really liked this Chinese Fighting Fish we had. He was actually depressed when it died. I myself never had a pet. However, my friend has two pet dogs, both I consider also a friend. The first one is really old, though, and I think I might cry when she goes. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Orange Devil on 10 October 2008, 19:43:04 People who don't have dogs or cats really don't understand. They think "it's just a dog, get over it". But these animals really become part of your family. I don't know what to tell you, other than I understand how hard it must be.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ChaosVortex on 10 October 2008, 20:12:53 My dad said that about my dog.
After my mom divorced him, he was supposed to take care of two border collies. Susie and Sally. Sally is the only one left. Susie had heart worms and my dad didn't take her to the doctor. We finally learned all about it when she died. I was full of different emotions, but I was mainly ticked at my Dad. The thing that just DIDN'T HELP at all is when he said those words. "It's just a dog." Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 10 October 2008, 20:17:33 Ouch, you got my condolences as well TLO. I have a dog, and I know how hard its gonna be when she dies.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ASR on 10 October 2008, 23:16:07 When our first family dog died, I didn't really care.
When my parents gave away the second family dog because he had bladder problems and we couldn't take care of him, I didn't really care. I doubt I'll care when either of the two dogs my family has now die. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 10 October 2008, 23:17:37 You have a black and tiny heart, ASR...
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ASR on 10 October 2008, 23:19:10 They're just dogs.

HAH! Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ASR on 10 October 2008, 23:42:50 IM SORRY FOR SOME REASON I THOUGHT IT WAS OD WHO HAD THE DEAD CANCERDOG
also sorry for your loss tlo AND WIND DON'T MAKE ME STOOP DOWN TO YOUR LEVEL wait Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Chron on 10 October 2008, 23:46:41 I've never had a pet, myself.
Which has had the effect OD is talking about. I don't even consider animals to be on the same level of existence as human beings. Not that that prevents me from caring about animals. I like a few. I just don't get too broken up over death. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ASR on 10 October 2008, 23:51:27 Same.
And I've owned pets. And yeah, I've connected with all of them, they were and are part of the family, but I don't care THAT much about them. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Johncarllos on 11 October 2008, 00:27:34 It's a different story when you raise the animal yourself.
Not just the hard work and troubles, but the loss of something that you sculpted into a pet that behaved the way you wanted. Unless the animal fails to behave, then I don't really care about it. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ASR on 11 October 2008, 00:40:50 I practically raised all my our family's dogs myself, with the exception of my dad being just as involved as I was.
Sure, I loved them and trained them and they loved me back, but it didn't really bother me at all when the first two were gone. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Chron on 11 October 2008, 01:17:35 After all, you did all of that raising and care for the animal not to prevent it from dying, but to make it a happy part of your family while it was still alive. That's what counts.
S'how I think of it. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Snare on 11 October 2008, 02:19:43 When my first cat died and I paraded around the house with a picture of him while bawling. I later had anxiety attacks because I was sure "I was next".
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 11 October 2008, 03:21:10 lol'd
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Mikero on 11 October 2008, 03:30:21 We had to put my cat down when I was in high school or just after, so I know how that feels man.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ChaosVortex on 11 October 2008, 03:57:34 Oh, I lived next to an animal hater when I used to live in Illinois.
He'd run over our cats whenever he'd get the chance. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 11 October 2008, 04:09:15 Its hard to take you serious with that avatar CV....
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Majikn on 11 October 2008, 04:12:36 "The warmest heart I've found,
I lower into the ground." ^ because it rhymes. I don't plan on owning a pet ever again. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Mikero on 11 October 2008, 04:43:22 I want to but...
::sigh:: Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ChaosVortex on 11 October 2008, 04:44:47 Its hard to take you serious with that avatar CV.... I realized that after I posted that... ... Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Johncarllos on 11 October 2008, 04:57:25 "The warmest heart I've found, Funny, that touches me. I like that. I hated burying my first cat... I was so depressed I dug a grave big and deep enough for a person. Didn't even realize it. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Orange Devil on 12 October 2008, 15:34:50 :'(
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Snare on 12 October 2008, 23:01:25 Oh my god, John! ;~;
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Xero on 12 October 2008, 23:05:03 I had a cat that died due to stomach problems.
*Cry* Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Johncarllos on 12 October 2008, 23:23:02 I know just about how you feel...
I had to watch mine die of asthma (#####ING ASTHMA) because no vet's offices were open and I couldn't put it out of misery myself. This is nice depressing thread. But the animals were good for what they did when they were alive, the bonds they formed and how they taught us each responsibility. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 12 October 2008, 23:55:32 My uncle had to take out his cat, poor thing suffered in the basement all night.. Pooped every where and was crying its butt off (and yet it still pooped) None of them could take it to a vet, so he put the cat in a burlap sack and clonked it with a shovel.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 13 October 2008, 00:11:00 My uncle had to take out his cat, poor thing suffered in the basement all night.. Pooped every where and was crying its butt off (and yet it still pooped) None of them could take it to a vet, so he put the cat in a burlap sack and clonked it with a shovel. I didn't need to read that... :( Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ChaosVortex on 13 October 2008, 00:45:13 ... I didn't either.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 13 October 2008, 00:46:28 Then why did you? You could've stopped. But nooo! That'd make too much SENSE.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: ASR on 13 October 2008, 01:22:38 Did you have to use the word "clonked?"
It just ripped the entire post of any sentiment. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: preventerWIND on 13 October 2008, 01:31:54 Yes, yes I did.
Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: von Teelio on 13 October 2008, 04:59:40 This topic is just to discuss how you all have recovered from deaths of pets/animals close to you. If you get depressed or anxiety attacks, sorry, but that's your problem.
lol how hypocritical. Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 19 October 2008, 06:29:03 Hmm. My dad's latest Chinese fighting fish has died too.
He's apparently really bummed up about it, more than the first one we got... Title: Re: R.I.P. Rocky Post by: Dr. on 21 October 2008, 01:44:48 That sucks, I'm sorry. You have my condolences.
