They -are- trying to do Trek instead of Kurtzman, but I agree it would be a whole lot easier to discard Picard as some kind of parallel universe story. None of the canon characters they brought back felt right. (haven't checked out Season 2 yet, but from what I hear it's not much better.)

So, I've been missing the discussion about Picard S1 for over a year now and there is really not much else I can contribute. I dislike more every time I think about it. Which would be easier to deal with if our Star Trek LARP group hadn't decided to chain itself to that canon, so now we're in the Hobus aftermath and kinda sorta actively playing through the "Federation going to #####"-arc.

img]https://i.imgur.com/effLkZq.jpg[/img]

Teen gets illegally experimented on and ends up with a sweet bionic bod. Rather than getting jiggy with it and enjoying the awesomeness that's being a cyborg, he gets all mopey about it and swears revenge. To pull through with that, Dr. Light builds him a helm to go with the rest of his outfit. So yeah, utterly preposterous and ridiculously intense.

It's a fairly generic shounen manga from the 80s with above average art and I picked them up when my bro was about to toss them.
Will post some pages later.
Also: it's his own helmet he's holding there. Unless he killed Mikero first and is now wearing his skin.

Thanks!
I like the more rounded face shape in the upper left for non-armored, then it being so much more angular afterwards.
I should explain this, and some other things. I was drawing those to figure out how the armor/mask would put itself on. That upper-left drawing is with the upper cranium armor pulled back and the mandible armor wide open, showing the basic ninja mask (which would be part of the more flexible full-body suit that's under everything, like compression clothes).
The bust drawing that's more to the right and lower has the mandibles open but the cranium portion is closed over. And then the lower one is obviously the full head armor, without the classic scarf.
The idea is that when the armor comes on it would move and lock into place in that order. Once fully closed he'd have a HUD kind of like other tech-characters (Iron Man, etc.), and full protection for the skull and eyes--the closed armor making the eyes look robotic and orange (instead of the character actually having orange irises like my older designs).
That came out of the old idea that his bike actually becomes his armor (like how Rush became Super Armor) from my old stuff. I drew him on a bike here just for fun, technically speaking he shouldn't be able to ride and be armored at the same time with my current ideas. Also, that's not even the type of bike I'd have him riding anymore, if at all, but more on that later.
I haven't really sat down and done any real character design rotation on this concept yet, but I just did this quick mockup of the helmet in profile:
Helm reminds me of Xenon Bio Diver. Nearly impossible to find decent pictures online. Will have to dig up my old collection to illustrate.

I've never played one of the MMZ games myself. Watched a couple of speedruns though. Gameplay seems solid, but it doesn't really feel MM-ish.

...if I'm not making sense, Fire Emblem Heroes is a good example of what I mean. The little tiny sprites are cute and look decent enough, but the animations themselves for them look lazy and like flash animation.
They do. For hundreds of individual sprites, it's forgivable though, IMHO.

Sachs would totally have that higher pitched Bostonian mobster voice. "EEEEY I'M TRYNNA WOIK HEERE!!". Sachs is also a robot sack of money.
Ignis Isopoda should actually be an actual maverick. I'm surprised there isn't an isopod maverick already seeing as how the Japanese generally and genuinely love their isopods.
Also I didn't realise you were a fellow ento. *reveals tattoos on knuckles that read: "SGUB ELUR"* inked em myself. I would imagine a hedonistic hemipteran to be a big lazy cicada, ties in with that Aesop fable. Although scale bugs are pretty hedonistic seeing as how once settled (the females) never move.
Other hemipteran maverick ideas: -Sonic Cicada (I'm sure this has been done) -Glide Strider -Genesis Aphid (the females give birth to genetically identical clones of themselves. Parthenogenesis, man) -Reap Waterscorp -Caustic Stinkbug
Anyway I'm gonna start hitting the sketchpad and hopefully finish some.
Reposting because there's a new one. Lotus Sasquatch will force you to open your chakras or he'll do it himself. With arms.
Not totally ento, but there's few interesting insect mavericks and I just looked some up I knew hat unique features that would be workable to design around. Also: Daddy Longlegs, but I can't come up with an interesting attribute. Blade Harvestman? I dunno.

Time? You have nothing BUT time my good man. The game doesn't come out for like, a YEAR!
Money? Everyone here will donate a dollar and you'll be set for years! I suspect you'll have to build a money bin to hold it all, in fact. But please, no swimming in it.
I'd donate.

Soooo.... we're renaming this place No. 9 Matrix? Or we could make it Number Nine Natrix. N³. Or some other location-ish sounding n-word? Family friendly n-word that is.

Beautifully put.
Last time, I did the numbers, it's been over 10 years. A lot has changed since then. Which is a shame. I'd love to still be playing old school Megaman games, making sprites and seeing people do fanart of our avatars..

I took some vacation in Margarita Ville the other day on a party, which was alright because I baught the tequila and it was GOOD tequila. Normally though, I'll go for a Caiprinha or Long Island Icetea.
Or I'll just have a cider if people are still expecting something of me that day.

I count myself among the few Trek fans who liked the new movie, so I am genuinely looking forward to this one too.
Tonight I'm gonna see The Hobbit. I'm excited.

And people had online personas.
Yeah, what was with that, anyway? I always thought it was a bit weird. Even though I certainly had one, too. Probably MySpace, Facebook, and so on got rid of that pretty fast.
Whatever it was, it was fun. After all, it was the years of Matrix and the net was still a lawless void where you could be whatever you wanted. Residual self-image and #####.
