Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five

The sixth part isn't available, but this is definitely something to think about.

Even if something massive does happen in that year, I don't think it will be the end. At worst there will be survivors and nature will begin anew.

Well, provided some of the freakier theories don't happen. I think I recall reading something about the alignment of planets causing something really messed up to happen involving gravity and the Earth will plunge into the sun or something.

And I'm not going to say for sure that I'm not afraid of death, but I think I know enough to realize that it's no skin off my ass at this point.

There's a version of this on DVD, that adds to the History Channel's version, but has more of a biblical view on it. They say that the earth will never end, since there's a verse that says, "A generation goes and a generation comes, But the earth remains forever. - Ecclesiastes 1:4"

Instead, they say that 2012 is probable date for the rapture and war, and "the world as we know it will end 7 years later". The seven-year period is supposed to be tribulation.

They also theorized that although there will be seven years of tribulation, the hours in a normal day would shorten.

But both videos apply interesting articles and things about the specific date: December 21st, 2012.

OOOOOLLLLLLLLLDDD

I've been on this topic since forever, nothing catastrophic will happen, maybe some wacky weather and such. But it surely won't be the apocalypse.

I hate it when people say old. When I'm making a topic about something I'm making a topic to TALK about it. I'm not presenting it as news. No one else posted it about it when it happened, why don't people get that?

Well, at least in this case this has been mentioned several times, but I suppose the same conversations do come up and it's a normal thing.

OOOOOLLLLLLLLLDDD

More than 2,000 years old to be more precise. Thanks.

But this information aired on the History Channel around two years ago. Regardless if you've heard it or not, it doesn't change the fact that 2012 is coming, and there seems to be a lot going on with that date.

There are tons of theories, even ones with aliens, aliens! Though the most believable of the bunch are the economic and environmental changes, there's supposed to be some solar flares around the time, added on to the ever worsening climate screw-ups we're already seeing. I take back saying "nothing will be catastrophic" because if worse comes to worse, a few million people could die from all this. I don't think this is religious or anything, though if it just so happens to be religious or enlightening or something, it's cool that we're able to see it happen. Those suckers from 200 years ago don't know what they'll be missing!~

Is this that Mayan calendar thing?
The one transcribed and forged by Christian monks trying to make up for burning the entirety of Mayan history and works?

Yeah, sure, that sounds like it's all legit.

That specific bit I got from watching a corny YouTube video by someone claiming to be Mayan. Obviously I have no idea if it's true, but believing this to be the end of the world is an even larger leap of faith.

If I remember right, the Mayan calendar ends on December 12, 2012 (12/12/12)... so people believe the world will end on that date. A little strange to believe, but I've seen people believe dumber things.

Look up 2012 on youtube along with Sumerian, Nephelim or Nibiru. It'll get into these cool theories that talk about ancient bird-man gods from a tenth planet looking for gold or some crazy crack like that..

It sounds ridiculous, but when they look back at ancient writings in stone tablets, it gets pretty convincing.

I'll start paying attention when there's actually some scientific merit to the claim, as opposed to religious nuts claiming the end of days, or some asshat choosing some arbitrary year.

I suspect that future generations will be making fun of us for constantly thinking the world was going to end.

I meant that even if it wasn't REALLY accurate, it was at least moderately believable to (and believed by) a large portion of our society.

Only because a large portion of our society were and still are 99% computer-illiterate.

EDIT: Which is not to say that I am not still 90-95% computer-illiterate, but that crap didn't even phaze me when I was 9

What Fatso means to say is that this large portion of our society is composed primarily of total morons.

The premise wasn't even halfway logical; anything important is backed up physically anyway.

Well, I remember the main concern being planes in the air, if there was even a short glitch in the system caused by Y2K it could cause crashes and/or malfunctions.

I didn't really care at 10.

The glitch would be the clocks showing the wrong date.
That has nothing to do with flight controllers and aid systems; especially since every system is quadruple redundant and there's usually a manual mode.

Not scientific merit - some SORT of it. As in, it sounded legit enough to anyone who didn't really know anything about computers.

All this 2012 Mayan nonsense makes absolutely no more sense than ghosts and vampires.
