Oh I play GMod every now and then.
I can run servers and such for small numbers of people. Good fun with the right map and build stuff.

Once in a very, very long time I play Team Fortress 2.

However, I haven't touched Steam in months.

I play TF2 and Gmod also.
Wanna be Steam buddies even if you never get on?

Oh also, my Steam name is CaptainSanoguchi.
Although I'm sure that's not a surprise to anyone.

I play a few times a week, either some Half Life (1,2,2E1,2E2), TF2, GMod, or a few others.
It's good fun.

I'll add you.
Play now?

IT SAYS YOU PLAYED 19 HOURS AGO.

It's Chron, but good luck finding the right one. There are bazillions... but next time I'm on I'll look for your account, alright?

I play Gmod sometimes. I have TF2 but never play it since it lags so badly for my #####ty computer... and yet Gmod runs perfectly, even when playing online.

Oh, Nova, I have the fix for that.
Any games that run cruddy, you have to change the Direct X level down from 9. You can't handle the shaders (niether can I).

Go into the options, and launch properties.
enter
-dxlevel 81
and it'll play smoooooth.

Only thing is that you have to re-adjust the video settings every time you restart the game. Worth it to be able to actually PLAY.

Bah, it doesn't give me the option to do that.
It's only a littler choppy for me anyway, I can't really blame how badly I suck on it anyway.

It had no reason to do that.

You either have a really wonky graphics card or your computer is just straaaange.

This. Even my Intel integrated POS can run in DX8.1 mode, it's the only way to make Source engine games work properly.

Well, I reinstalled it.
It still won't work.
So, looks like, because I believed someone and changed one thing that I should be able to change back instantly without any problem, I #####ed my life.
What a crock of #####.

-dxlevel [version]: Using this command allows you to force the game into only using the specified DirectX version for shaders. For example, use -dxlevel 70 to force Hardware DirectX7.0 level support for shaders. This means a noticeable reduction in image quality but an increase in performance. Other values include -dxlevel 80 -dxlevel 81, -dxlevel90 and -dxlevel95. Note that this only works if you choose a DirectX version which is lower than the current one supported by your graphics card - see the Hardware DirectX Version option under the In-Game settings for more details. Note further that lowering the DirectX Level may also cause glitches and problems, so it should be used mainly as a last resort.

Well, I guess nobody read the #####ing warning on the box of crackerjacks.

Sano, change the version back to whatever your current install of DirectX is and it should work (at the very least check your command line arguments when running the game). Uninstall/reinstall doesn't get rid of all of the settings with Steam.

Do the Properties -> Launch Options thing and see if the line John made you put in is still there. If it is, remove it.

If it still doesn't work go to (assuming you use Windows) the start menu:
Mash Run...
Type dxdiag
Let it run
Read the version number (should be 9.0c if XP, or 10 something for Vista)
Go back to the launch options
Just put the number bit in instead of the 81 John recommends. (90 for 9.0c, etc)

If it still doesn't work even after that, conglatulation, you have borked your install.

'Kay, it worked, thanks Chron.
It actually feels like it's even running a little smoother now too.
So, JC's plan to sabotage me so that he'd never feeling the explosive ass kicking that I'm going to unleash upon him in TF2 has failed, and it's all thanks to Chron.
Everything's okay now.

Is Steam free to download?
