It's a movie about a screenwriter adapting a book to film that is difficult to adapt to film and so he writes himself into the screenplay and then he's a character and like there are fictional characters and real real characters and then-

Well, it's about a LOT more than that.

My brain still hadn't recovered from the craziness that was Being John Malkovich.

So yes, it's in a good way. A great way.

He says it at least twice in the commercial, so I'm hoping it's like his catch phrase. 'Cause if it is then it's already hilarious to me.

I want to see that but with people, and most people are busy. I'm going to this with people, but it helps that it's free to get them out of the homework mess for it.

Still need to see Nick and Nora as well.
(And find a Nora (girl who is my musical soul mate) myself.)

There's a typo on this ticket.

Where it's supposed to read "ADMIT ONE", it says "KILL ME".

Trust me, it's not a typo.
Rez had me write those up and he assured me on oath of my death that it's not a typo.

When I asked about whether or not it was ethical to rip these tickets as the swarms roll in, as is my current profession, Rez swore on my grave that it was.

I didn't even know you could do that.

I drive to the theatres in your neck of the desert (sure, that's a saying), sorry. Ask around, you'll want to go see it at the Coliseum, which is...

::licks finger and puts it to the wind::

... West of you, on the highway at least. But I've no idea what bus would go from Baseline to there. Alternatively you could take any bus that goes to the Bayshore Shopping Centre, except you don't know where to walk from there (it's like a 5-10 minute walk from that mall).

In contrast I can't stand the movie for some reason.

The movie just had what I liked best, all the talking with Vs and it all just moved along normally. Like, the book is too slow me knowing it all. But I haven't tried to read it in a long time so maybe that's changed.

I think the thing that annoys me about the movie is that it is so far removed from the message of the book, I am quite literally, disgusted.

The book was about anarchy, and ended on a much darker note.
Basically after not only gutting out the current government, but utterly destroying it, and the people's faith in it, Parliament blows up (more symbolic than anything), chaos ensues. For that one night everyone in London is truly free, no one is watching, no one is listening, and they can do as they please. Whether they want to keep it that way the next day is up to them.
The movie was about democracy, and ended with a much more optimistic ending.
"Okay, so we all marched out to the streets in costumes, someone blew up Parliament, and the revolution is over. Best regime change ever. Now let's go home with the satisfaction that we enacted change, but doing as little work as possible."
But I can get that it's kind of a hard read, not intellectually, mind you, but the writing is so damn dense, it's just like... You just have to put it down and say "#####, I can't #####ing read this now, I got a goddamn headache".

I know I can't read it through in one sitting. I don't think you're supposed to anyway.

That's just how he writes, I guess. I got a headache the first time I read Watchmen, I was reading so hard.

I read to the max extreme.

But yeah, not everyone is gonna love Moore's style, it is just very very... Dense. Also, crammed with so much symbolism and double meanings and....

Every time I read Watchmen, I find something new. it's why I never get tired of it.

And even more, there are a lot of different ways to interpret that book, and that what keeps it interesting to me, and why it's one of my favorite comics ever.

At work today...

Well. On the subject ALAN Moore books. This is just perfect isn't it? After waiting over a year for Absolute Watchmen to come I finally accepted that it was out of print forever and bought the one I bought.

Guess what recently came back in print and we have at the store now? Absolute-#####ing-Watchmen. Goddamnit.

Is that the one that costs an obscene amount of money?

I forgot about that. When I was searching for Watchmen, all the bookstores I went to that knew what I was talking about (and were sold out) told me to wait until November when this new "super version" came out. I said "Thanks, but no thanks" and ordered Watchmen online.

What's so good about it?

It's really not all that worth it, but an "obscene amount of money" is relative. It's like getting the best super edition DVD.

Absolute Editions just have loads of extras. It's an oversized hardcover, lots of supplemental stuff like scripts and page descriptions, remastered colour (which I think they use in all the trades since 2005 anyway) and stuff like that.

If I had known how good it was and how much I was gonna' love it BEFORE I bought it, I might've waited for that.

But by obscene, I mean it was somewhere between $50 and $70 or something, when I could buy the regular one for $20.

75 bucks USD, I think. I mean it's relative because everyone has a different idea of what's expensive based on what they make and how they came up. But yeah it is. And those extras aren't totally worth it, but it's cool to have. I love reading scripts by Brian Michael Bendis. But he writes like me so that helps (as did Douglas Adams).

I write like Douglas Adams but I'm pretty sure it's BECAUSE of him.

And yeah, $75, that's what they told me. Wouldn't have gotten it.

You might like Bendis' comics, come to think of it. Not really like Douglas Adams at all, but they've got a realistic dialogue thing with quirkiness, which is how I write dialogue. And personally I find it good, just little things sometimes funny that people do. I can't really explain.

I write like Adams in narration and such things, as well as with tangents that go nowhere about vortexes opening up and passing words onto other planets which start interplanetary war until they both figure out what happened and band together to attack earth but end up getting inhaled by a dog.

My only problem with his stuff is how long it takes to tell a story. An eight issue arc of his can often be done in three issues. I actually like he likes to connect to the past all the time, like Secret Invasion connecting to House Of M and stuff like that, but apparently enough people don't like that he does that.

Finally watched the Star Wars trilogy. (Previously, I'd seen RotJ and a bit of ANH, but not ESB, and not all in a row.)

This makes listening to Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" a little mind-bending.

Note to self: If ever get tempted by a Sith Lord to the dark side, do not design fortress to have convenient mile-deep drops for the hero and/or Face Heel Turned student to push me off of. Or at least put a trampoline at the bottom.

Also, start thinking up good Darth title that isn't some synonym of "bad" or "illness".

So, I haven't been to a movie theater for this entire school year. Which is okay I guess because I didn't miss a SINGLE hit movie all summer.

But today we all finally went out and saw Quantum of Solace. Which pisses me off because I'd rather have seen either Zack & Miri or Role Models (and I would've seen them instead if both hadn't already started 20-30 minutes before we got there.)

But Quantum of Solace was decent. It bored me at some parts and I've never been big on Bond, but I did like it. Daniel Craig is a pretty badass Bond.

It was that when I saw it, it needed no help to prove it. It was a laser on the moon that would melt polar ice caps, which is the quintessential parody of Bond movies. It had a sword fight with Madonna. It didn't need any help.

I knew Casino Royale was the only one after Die Another Day until now, but I was just illustrating a point on why I'm done going to see Bond in theatres.

I figured out the bus route to the movie theatre. (Thanks Mike!)

I'm now watching Zack & Miri Make a Porno. After this I'm going to rush to the Quantum of Solace showing to just catch it start of it.

I was a little annoyed that they did't accept my birth cert this time. I had to show my student card alongside it. She then told me to bring a health card next but let me through anyway. :/

Posted on: 15 November 2008, 14:16:07

Zack and Miri was pretty awesome. It  didn't resort to be absolutely random to be funny.

Quantum of Solace time! I'm going to record the intro on my phone... >_>

I could record the whole movie on this phone if I wanted but I'm not an evil bastard.

I heard that it's based off the first novel.

Well, actually they took the first novel, and split it into four parts.

Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace being the first two parts.

Also, I think I'm the only guy on earth who was never relaly a Bond fan to begin with.
