I didn't look at the thing but if it has too many references it might end up suffering from hipster crud disease.

It just... it just looks like a ton of good old-fashioned movie fun. And it's been a while. Crank 2 fell into that category, but that's more like a cocaine overdose than old-fashioned movie fun.

Before watching the trailer, my post was going to read:
"I'm a bit burnt out on zombie flicks. I'll pass."

Having seen the trailer, I may actually go see this.

The initial reviews will determine if I'm sober or not.

Well, I saw I Love You Beth Cooper yesterday, it was rather funny.

Cocaine overdoes, WOW.

If you saw Crank 2, you'd know what I mean. You might even say I'm underselling it.

As for Beth Cooper... it looks fairly basic and nothing more. No real desire to see it, but for some odd reason I do kind of want to.

I got dragged to the sixth Harry Potter. I had more fun MST3K-ing around with my friends even if the movie didn't really deserve it. I've avoided the Harry Potter movies and books past the sixth since I know I LOVE them but I don't want to get back into them. Also, I don't think the movies are that good (this one wasn't) but I love the world of Harry Potter so I enjoyed watching it anyway, despite not really wanting to.

I was being an unfunny twat: I honestly lost count of how many times I uttered some combination of "Kills", "Snape", and "Dumbledore."

Posted on: 18 July 2009, 16:22:03

And now I just watched "Seinfeld: A XXX Parody."

Absolutely awesome.

Yeah I liked the 5th movie best, and the 5th book best.

The new movie was alright, it had better effects than before (well I'm not sure if it had better effects than the last one), but it was the worst book in my opinion so it didn't make a great movie (not the worst of the movies though). The 6th book/movie is in it's entirety just set up for the 7th, anyway. Through a bit of the middle of the movie we were making fun of things too, though it didn't really deserve it. Not "MST3K-ing" the entire movie though, just bits during the somewhat tedious middle.

I've heard about that Seinfeld parody thing, I'll watch it eventually.

Cocaine overdoes, WOW.

If you saw Crank 2, you'd know what I mean. You might even say I'm underselling it.

And then, he might even say it correctly!

I thought if I said anything about the typo, it would ruin the comedy. I can't top it.

And yeah, watch the Seinfeld porn. It's hilarious. The last sex scene is on-stage during "Gary" Seinfeld's stand-up monologue.

SO.

Today I went with to the Maine International Film Festival with a friend from High school.

He had gotten a full VIP access pass worth 250 bucks for free from work, and it's good for the card holder and guest.

We saw "35 Shots of Rum."
Well.
It was artsy.
Lots of symbolism and non-verbal plot driving.

Worth a watch just because I've spent the last 6 hours trying to figure everything out in it, because it is in NO way as straight forward as it seems.

I consider myself an emotional thrillseeker, so the documentary "Dear Zachary" has been at the top of my list for a while...

Finally watched it.

I... I am dumbstruck. I can't believe this entire ordeal actually happened. It's so heartbreaking and tragic and it hurts all the more having to see just how real and wrong it all is.

Here's a trailer for it to get across what it's about better than I could explain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtyY0CXdiNo

What a bitch.

I hesitate to spoil real life for those of you that would watch this. Not that I have respect for anyone who would get pissed off over having a real-life story spoiled. But apparently she's a big one. But I won't spoil anything.

I'm sure there's more to it or whatever, anyway.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that story.

The proof that she killed Andrew Bagby was circumstantial, but it's hard to look innocent in the face of the aftermath.

Crank 2: High Voltage was a million times better than the first one. Anyone who didn't see it because they thought it looked exactly like the first one (as it turns out, was a ton of people) REALLY missed out.

I almost wrote that the inherent fun of Crank 2 might have been exclusive to a theater, but it hasn't come out on DVD yet and I feel STRONGLY that it will more than hold up at large friendly viewings or in the background at parties.

Is Never Back Down any good? I had considered picking it up when it came out on DVD 'cause I like movies about people beating the crap out of each other (hence why 1/3 of my DVD collection is poorly-dubbed kung fu flicks), but I never got around to it.

No it's pretty stupid and that's what fun about it. It's one of those bad movies you can watch with people to just to have fun, though it's not the worst movie I've ever seen.

Saw "Moon" tonight.

I loved it. What a great, fresh, entertaining, and just all around quality sci-fi film.

It doesn't pull any cheap tricks on you, even, which I was expecting. If it's playing near you, go see it. It's got a limited release.

I picked that up on DVD a while back along with Outlander (Vikings vs. Aliens. Best. Movie. Idea. Ever.). I haven't gotten around to watching it, but I've heard its really funny. You can find it for like $10 over at Wal-Mart.

That makes me happy to hear. It isn't showing anywhere near me, unfortunately. I will, however, be driving about 4 hours to see it this Wednesday.

Nothing stands between me and a film that interests me.

A friend and I saw the trailer months ago and we were all excited to see it, but we gave up when we realized it wasn't getting a wide release. Then, we see it listed online one day when we're looking for a movie to see, but we had never heard of the theater it was playing at. Turns out there's been a place that places indie flicks no more than five minutes down the street from where I live. I really wish I had known about it.

It's a cozy little place, but the sound quality in the theater was really bad. It bothered me quite a bit at the beginning until I got used to it.

That always seems to be the case.
The little theaters that chose art over commercial gain are almost always suffering from those types of technical issues.
Selling out has it's advantages, apparently.

This is the first city I've lived in that hasn't had one.
It's like a depressing omen; a foreshadowing of what's to come of art.

Yeah I have a couple cozy theatres that specialize in indie (or rather "in foreign and alternative movies") in town too. I just checked and the main one I go to is playing Moon, though I can't get there in time for today's showing (yes it's that cozy, it's the one screen so only 3 more movies are playing today) but now I'm gonna have to check if my friends are interested and see when we can go.

Weirdly, the sound quality in this cinema is good. Well maybe not good as in compared to technical standard that the big commercial theatres  have, but it's... I don't know. It feels very old school in there and I love it for that.

Of all theaters of that type that I've been in, I miss the one I lived by downtown.
Every Halloween there was a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with full audience participation, including the live performances and copious callbacks.
A full bar helped, I'm sure.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li isn't nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but the 1994 film is still way, way better.
