I've been mocking 2012 for a while now because I have a friend who's been obsessed with it since it was anounced, but I've always been a sucker for disaster movies (they've been a guilty pleasure since I was a little kid) and this looks like the mother-of-all-disaster-movies.

In that 5-minute clip they've already topped every single one ever made.

And don't get me wrong, this doesn't look like a good film - it looks like a fun film. I laughed my ass off during "The Day After Tomorrow" (come on, a disaster film about GLOBAL WARMING?) and this looks like it's even more ridiculous and entertaining. You can't tell me there wasn't some carnal enjoyment bubbling up in your tummies after watching that level of destruction... and John Cusack outrunning all of it in a limo.

ALSO.

Saw Zombieland, then walked right into The Invention of Lying.

Zombieland was GREAT. I was very impressed by it. It's still nowhere near Shaun of the Dead, but I've put that on such a high pedestal that I can't blame this movie at all. Very good and very funny.

Invention of Lying was a huge disappointment, but it still had some really great and creative parts. Halfway through it took a very strange turn... but I definitely enjoyed it. It's just... I was expecting too much out of it, I guess. Louis CK was great.

That's what I would call watching something ironically, like Reefer Madness or Santa's Slay or The Gingerdead Man. You know, crappy B-movies. There's actually not much difference between what I'm saying and that - there's a very fine line and I'm having trouble putting it into words.

Like... when I watch Shark Attack 3, I'm laughing because it's bad, and enjoying it because it's bad. When I watch Crank 2 or Gamer, I'm actually genuinely enjoying the movie even though I consciously know they're bad in the ways most people judge films... I'm not enjoying them BECAUSE they're bad.

I think the key difference is the passion that goes into them: if the team really cares about the movie or project or whatever, then I would never say I hate it. I give it the benefit of the doubt even if it's not my cup of tea. Stuff that's made clearly for the money and without much heart, like Transformers 2 or G.I. Joe... that stuff I can't stand. Things like Two and a Half Men and CSI also fall into this category. I'm sure some people involved in those things really believe they're making art, but not on enough of a level that I'd appreciate it.

Lost isn't great but I really feel like everyone involved loves making it and working on the show. Kevin Smith movies are pretty bad on the technical side of things in comparison to a lot of movies, but I know he puts a lot of heart into his dialogue and writing and characters and that's enough to carry me. I wouldn't love Crank 2 if I didn't truly believe that Nevaldine and Taylor were having the absolute best time of their lives writing and directing it.

After all this, and since it's an Roland Emmerich film, 2012 really falls more into the B-movie ironic-viewing category much like where I place The Day After Tomorrow. But I'm glad I got into this discussion because I feel I actually got some words out that I've been meaning to for a while.

Just watched Toy Story 1 and 2 back-to-back last night for the first time in what has to be 10 years. I mean, I think I may have watched the first one sometime in there, but I know I haven't seen Toy Story 2 since it was in theaters.

I didn't go to the 3D double-feature, mind you. Ha.

Anyway, my point is... I think I like Toy Story 2 more than I like the first. Both are movie masterpieces.

I still need to review the 2nd one. I also last saw it in the theater and I cannot remember anything that happened (except for a new cowgirl toy and buzz encountering his nemesis in a toy store or something) for the life of me.

I thought the 1st one was better, but again, opinionsssss... they changeeeee...

The second Toy Story is much like the second Rush Hour in that it's basically a flip of the first one and that's not really a bad thing.

Though while I like Rush Hour 2 more than the first, I like Toy Story MUCH more than it's sequel.

Paranormal Activity looked promising from the trailer, and I've heard high praise as well as awful bashing.

Yea, them specials not as good this day and age, I saw Mortal Kombat last night, and whooo!!, you can soooo tell its fake with an HDTV.

When I was younger, I'm sure a ton of stuff scared me. I remember getting scared during Men In Black when I saw it in theaters!

What about a certain episode of Futurama?

Like I keep saying, the closest I've ever come to crying at anything on-screen was during the series finale of Six Feet Under. One of my eyes teared up a little bit.

That Dear Zachary documentary put up a fair fight, too.

And yes, Futurama's Jurassic Bark is heart-wrenching, but still not enough for me.

I think I cried so much between the ages of 10-15 like a total wuss that I effectively depleted myself of tears.

To be fair, those were the dark ages of my life where I was being kicked out of schools and shuffling through therapists and spending time in out-patient mental institutions.
