That's exactly how I felt about Kung-Fu Panda. I did not want to go see it.

I saw it on DVD anyway eventually though. It wasn't bad.

But still, if they release a "Slithers the Sky-Rocket Snake" or a random title that implies an animated movie about a particular animal, I'll boycott it again.

Nonpixar CGI is always talking animals, is what he was getting at.

We rented it from the red box along with Terminator Salvation.

So far it seems decent.

Does anybody know what the "Red Box" is?

It's that DVD vending machine thing, right? There's one at the Wal-Mart by here.

1$ per night.
Plenty of time for me to watch the DVD and return it.
And plenty of time for my hardrive to read the disc too.

How do those work, exactly? Like, I haven't sat and tried to figure it out, but at first glance, the idea of a DVD-rental vending machine didn't seem to make much sense to me.

Oh, it charges you a dollar for the DVD on the spot (need a card). If it's returned by the next night at 9, no further charges. If NOT, it charges an extra dollar for every night.

Check the discs when you get them, a they may be scratched.
It's normally a dollar or 2 well spent.

Oohhhhh so that's how it works, whenever I pass by there, there's a big line just to get a movie, that's cool.

I guess that's convenient but I don't see the point.

I said NON-Pixar. Meaning since this isn't Pixar, it's surprising that it's not just another one starring animals.

Not how it read.

DVDs I picked up this week:

Best Buy
The Hurt Locker

Wal-Mart
City of Ember / Dragonball Evolution 2-pack
Resurrecting the Champ / The Wrestler 2-pack

The Complete James Dean Collection:
East of Eden
Giant
Rebel Without a Cause

The Essential Steve McQueen Collection:
Bullitt
The Cincinnati Kid
The Getaway
Never So Few
Papillon
Tom Horn

All of these movies for $100.

I originally wasn't going to pick up the Steve McQueen collection because I didn't recognize any of the titles except for Bullitt (one of Dad's favorites, along with the other classic car chase movie, Vanishing Point), but then I saw that it was the two-disc version. I knew that it retailed for $20 by itself, so $15 for the two-disc version of Bullitt plus five other movies was a slam dunk.

Considering Shyamalan wrote the script, it probably ends with the main character taking off his mask and revealing that he is, in fact, Shyamalan himself.

Then cut to black.

Good call. I think James Cameron had the rights to that movie title for like, what, fourteen years now?

I really don't see this being a good movie, honestly. The show was decent, but live action movie doesn't seem to work in my opinion.

I get the vibe that I don't want to see that movie.

also, if the cartoon had any charm, this doesn't.

Not in the slightest. I watched the cartoon just for the action, not the story or anything. The action in this doesn't seem to be anything special.

I think that seems a bit odd to watch a cartoon series solely on the action and not the plot.

Well, I watched the cartoon because I liked the plot. And I'm pretty excited for the film, it looks like a loyal adaptation so far.
But I've gotta admit, a big part of the cartoon was its charm. And I don't think a live action film can achieve something like that.

Still, looking forward to it. Opens July 22nd here.

I know how most ppl here HATE Halo, but. I got Halo Legends on DVD on Sunday, as some of you might know, it consist of nine short animes from some of the best well known animation studios in Japan, with that said, the ones I liked best was "The Duel" from I.G. Productions and "The  Package" from Casio Entertainment.

The Duel- I liked The Duel the best because the style on animation that they used, was like a water movement painting, don't know if this makes any since but its the best I can explain.

The Package- I liked the package as well because of the 3D animation they did and used a few of the characters who are in the first Halo novel, Halo: Fall of Reach .

Now why IS that, exactly? What's so bad about it?

I haven't seen it and would like to know why it's so horrible that it doesn't deserve to be watched over all the plenty of #####ty movies out that I don't care about.

I'll get into it later. Basically it felt like Tim Burton was just phoning in his quirky style without putting any heart or passion into the project. Johnny Depp's performance was almost a caricature of the sort of zany dark characters everyone expects him to play in Burton movies. I'll say one thing: Wonderland was pretty cool-looking, even if they called it Underland.

Cop Out was bad, too, but enjoyable.

Honestly, if you want to see a movie this weekend, just go see Shutter Island because that was absolutely fantastic!

#####, eh?

Was sold out when I was at the rental store. I rented Moon, Shaun of the Dead, and 500 Days of Summer instead.

I wasn't impressed by 500 Days of Summer. At all. Not that it was bad...
I appreciated the message it was trying to get across (not that it was a lesson I really needed to be taught). I just didn't appreciate having it spelled out for me at the end of the movie by Zooey Deschanel. And then AGAIN by the narrating voice. And it wasn't all that funny. It just came off as an okay movie with some funny parts.

At the very least it tells me Marc Webb would try to bring some narrative realism into the 2012 Spider-Man movie.

UPDATE: Currently watching Hot Fuzz on Comedy Central.

Haha, the edited version of Hot Fuzz they air on Comedy Central makes me so frustrated because of the way they shortened the movie... instead of choosing a few scenes to chop out, they simply SKIMMED OFF a bunch of shots every 10-15 seconds or so! It's such a surreal and strange experience to watch a movie I've seen 30+ times but tweaked and torn apart! The rhythm is all thrown off and it's so weird. Plus they took out most of the great lines, AND the kick to the old lady's face!

I knew that there was something missing from the final fight, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was.

I own it on DVD, they just got to my favorite part and I decided to watch it.
