New Humble Indie Bundle is out, this time with games from Frozenbyte. If you aren't familiar with the Humble Bundles, they're groups of DRM-free games for any price you name that are compatible with Linux, Mac, and Windows. The money you spend goes to charity and the developers, with you choosing how much to give each. You can even get codes to redeem the games in Steam, if you feel you must use it.

This bundle includes:
  • Trine
  • Shadowgrounds
  • Shadowgrounds: Survivor
  • Splot (It's not out yet, but once it's released it'll be available to download)
  • Jack Claw (A tech demo, essentially. Make of it what you will)

It'll be up for two more weeks.

I got the last humble indie bundle, which contained great games like World of Goo and Penumbra (made by creators of Amnesia) for the price you wanted to pay for.

Never heard of any of the games in the New Humble Indie Bundle except Trine, I'll have to think about it.

I still haven't touched the games from the last Humble Bundle I got, which had Braid and... others.
They're just sitting uninstalled in my downloads folder.

Too bad I missed the Penumbra one. I only got the other one because Chaos facebook'd it and I heard good things about Braid.

You're talking about the second Humble Bundle as the one you own, yeah, Majikn?
Because, provided you still have the url, you should be able to download the first bundle as a bonus due to it being added onto the second as a reward for the second making so much money.

Bumping this because a new Humble Bundle is out.
Humble Bundle #3.
As usual, you can name your price, DRM free, can be found here, etc.

The games this time are:
  • Crayon Physics Deluxe
  • Cogs
  • VVVVVV
  • Hammerfight
  • And Yet It Moves

Yeah, of the above, I've honestly only heard of VVVVVV, which, in itself, is a great game worth nabbing the bundle for. The rest are a complete mystery to me, though, and, considering I already own VVVVVV, I may just skip this one.

VVVVVV is awesome and everyone should play it.

The other games looked good enough to warrant my purchase, so I did it.

The choice was taken out of my hands! Someone at SHM bought it for me as a gift, after which I was pleased to find it comes with activation codes for Steam.

The activation on steam is what sold it for me. I like all my games in one place.

It irks me that EA is ditching Steam in favor of Origin.

Really?

When the alternative is DRM free, I don't understand wanting required internet access just to play your games.

I prefer not having DRM in my games either.
Not to say that I hate Steam, I think the service is fine enough, but provided there's an alternative, especially one that is DRM-Free, I'll typically not buy from/use Steam.

Anyway, what's somebody's opinion of And Yet It Moves?
I've been looking around and it seems pretty good.
Enough so that I may revise my previous stance on purchasing this bundle.

At least with steam you just need internet to download the game and then after that you can play offline if you really want to. (even on multiple computers). Plus I like the automatic updates and the fact that I can download all my games conveniently from one source at pretty good speeds.

That's what a lot of games in the bundle look like.
That said, I'll still probably end up nabbing this bundle once my bank issues are taken care of.

Oh, and if you buy now, you get to play Minecraft for free until August 14th.
Neat if you don't already own the game or were on the fence about buying it, I suppose.

And I love the sales.
Pretty much the main and only reason I buy from Steam beyond Valve and (some) indie games.

Why do I feel like we've had this exact conversation before?

At least with steam you just need internet to download the game and then after that you can play offline if you really want to. (even on multiple computers).

I double click "Portal 2" and it literally asks me to sign in to play.

But yeah my whole point was that with the Humble Bundle you get this setup file that you can use anywhere without internet access, and there already IS a sale. And you can use it even if Steam just happens to be down for whatever reason.

I donno about you Maj, but I NEVER have to sign into Steam. I just open it on my computer and it's 100% ready to rock.
Maybe it's a Canada thing, or that you used the PS3 code for the PC version.

Also, all my Steam games still work seamlessly without internet access, I just launch them in offline mode.

Well, I nabbed the bundle. Pretty neat games overall.

Crayon Physics Deluxe is a fairly fun puzzle game with some really nice music. The game's soundtrack is one of its high-points. It seems like the game wants you to just have fun with it, as well, as opposed to being the best. Unfortunately, the Linux version of the game requires so much effort on the user's end to get it working that I'd almost say it's completely unacceptable for a commercial product to be released in this state. Not that, I assume, most of you here will have to worry about that.

Cogs is an alright puzzle game. Nothing too great. Seems like it could be fun to mess around with, but I don't see myself playing it that much.

VVVVVV is still great and every one of you should play it.

Hammerfight seems like some pretty decent fun. I'll have to get use to the controls, though. I found myself being hit by my own hammer more than the enemy's.

And Yet It Moves is pretty much exactly like John said. It's alright, but I don't see myself playing it again after I complete it.

Also, all my Steam games still work seamlessly without internet access, I just launch them in offline mode.
Steam does "phone home," so to speak, every month or so you don't sign in, though, forcing you to do so at that time. So, really, offline-mode should be more accurately described as "temporary offline-mode."

Or, at least, that's how it use to be.
From my understanding, though, it hasn't changed anytime recently.

For those of you who bought the bundle prior to today, you now have the second Humble Indie Bundle added on to the third as a bonus. For those of you who haven't bought the bundle yet, you have to donate at least more than the average to get the second Humble Bundle added on.

Neat stuff, although, I already own the second bundle.

I mostly got the Bundle because VVVVVV's music is so good. SO GOOD.

...Overall, though, I prefer the games in the second Bundle to this one. Osmos is weirdly satisfying, as is Revenge of the Titans, although I have to be careful when playing tower defense games since they're the worst offender when it comes to me going, "Oh, I'm just going to load this up for fifteen minutes, I don't think I'm going to enjoy this that much WAIT, WHERE DID THE SUN GO? WHY IS MY ROOM DARK? WHY AM I SO HUNGRY?"

Revival for another Humble...er...Game.

The Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle.
Which, really, isn't a bundle at all.
No.

Essentially, Frozen Synapse is a turn-based strategy game and...That's really all I know about it. I've heard good things. Most reviews of it tend to be in the 8-10/10 range, so it seems to be well liked. The "Bundle" comes with the game and its soundtrack, together normally running ~$31 or so. This "Bundle" is also the only way to get the game natively for Linux.

Same rules as before apply:
  • DRM-Free
  • Cross Platform
  • Name your price
  • etc

On top of that, if you happen to pay more than the average, you get the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle (first bundle advertised in this thread) as a bonus, which is worth getting for Trine alone (provided you don't, y'know, own it already).

This deal is going to last for about two more weeks.

New game has been added.
Trauma - A neat little adventure game.
Played it for a while and died.
Could be alright.

Oh, and the bundle actually comes with three albums all made by the co-founder of Mode 7 (the guys who made Frozen Synapse).

One of them is the soundtrack itself.
Another is an album he did.
And the last is a chiptune album he made under a different name.

Pretty neat little bonus.
I actually like his chiptune and other album better than the soundtrack.

New game.
SpaceChem.
No clue what it's about.

And I love the sales.

That's what got me into Steam. I'm still not big on DRM or even digital downloads (with or without an account system) but Steam's sales free-to-play stuff definitely give it a good edge over some other services.

It's just generosity and goodwill for themselves, I'd think. Appearing so benevolent only makes people want to donate more.

MOST.

Another new bundle is out.

This time it comes with:
  • Jamestown
  • Bit.Trip Runner
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Shank
  • NightSky HD

And, if you pay more than the average price you get:
  • Gratuitous Space Battles
  • Cave Story+

I threw down $10 for Cave Story+ and Super Meat Boy alone.
Haven't really heard of the other games, but they all seem pretty decent.

Jamestown is a cool vertizontal shmup in the vein of Giga Wing and Mars Matrix - probably the best of its kind to come from this side of the Pacific in years. I've had hours of fun at it, between improving my scores and bumping up the difficulty ever higher (disclaimer: I'm a bit of a shmup enthusiast) (other disclaimer: you'll have the most fun with this game if you have a good arcade stick).

Going in for the same two you mentioned, though.

HUMBLE INDIE BUNDLE 5 IS OUT, BITCHES.

Four games, DRM-free, for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

The main bundle includes:

  • Amnesia: The Dark Decent
  • LIMBO
  • Pyschonauts
  • Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

And, if you pay more than the average, you get Bastion, as well.

I've already purchased.
The bundle is worth it for Psychonauts and LIMBO alone.
Bastion and Amnesia are pretty good, too, from what I've heard.

I attempted to lower the average for everyone else instead of getting Bastion, because when I got it I wasn't sure what to think of the game. I realized that might have done absolutely nothing if the average was the median or the mode instead of the mean, but oh well.

The Bundle now has new games for those who've paid above the average:
  • Lone Survivor - Some retro-esque adventure game about surviving zombies or something.
  • Braid - Puzzle platformer that has been in prior bundles.
  • Super Meat Boy - Another game from prior bundles.

Cave Story+

Yup. Apparently I have been converted to digital media. At least, Steam-wise.
