I don't know which of you already knew this, but over the summer I co-wrote a movie with a friend, gathered up a bunch of film students and actors, scrounged up some equipment, and directed this son of a bitch. Tomorrow is the last day of shooting before we move on to editing and post-production. It's a bank heist comedy called The Day Job. I even wrote a pretty big part for myself, because, hey, nepotism. Or whatever. I think that applies.

I have some movie posters done. Here they are. I'm really excited about that.

I don't know when or if you guys will ever be able to see it once it's done, but I'll keep you updated and let you know when we've cut a trailer.

His tie bothers the hell out of me.

I've been following, though. I definitely wanna see it when it's done.

Haha, the tie is like that because it's supposed to be like he was roughed up a bit.

Some more posters here, including the one for my character.

This one's a favorite of mine:

Please tell me that people started calling Trevor Smith's character Lunchebox.

Oh MAN I totally forgot about that! I'm so used to it now that I never even crossed my mind to bring that up.

Yeah, when trying to name characters, at one point we pooled a bunch of names from our Facebook friends lists. Anything that really stuck out or seemed to really fit a character ended up getting used at least partially. Max Lunche stuck entirely on its own. Probably should've asked permission at some point from most of these people.

So yeah, the spirit of MMM lives on in bank heist comedy format.

Are you going to make DVDs of it available?

Definitely - but that's a long way down the road. I'm assuming we won't get picked up by any sort of distributor and it'll be a purely independent thing, at which point we'd be able to put out DVD's on our own dime in whichever way we want.

I'd also really like to just make the entire movie available for free on the internet, but that's something I have to iron out with my co-director. He seems to have bigger and more unrealistic hopes for this movie, which is, at its heart, just a student film with student actors and student crew. I think what we filmed is remarkable - great, even - but only with the knowledge that it's a student film.

I'll keep you guys in the loop for sure. Don't hold me to this, but I'd love to be able to send you free copies of whatever DVD or plain old video file we end up with. First, though - I have to edit this sonnuvabeast.

You send me a DVD, I'll give you a review up on the film website that I help write reviews for.

Just finished the rough cut yesterday. We're currently backing everything up onto another hard drive. It's been going since 9AM and it still says "13 hours remaining."

Anyway, looks really great. Gotta' throw in the better audio and do some color correction, not to mention adding the musical score and trimming some scenes. It comes in at just over 2 hours long right now.

Really?

You sure you don't wanna cut some of those scenes out?

Cut out all instances of Max Lunche and replace them with Michael C. Collymore ESQ.

Just finished the rough cut yesterday...

not to mention adding the musical score and trimming some scenes.

We haven't deleted any scenes yet because we're doing a rough-screening for the producers before making any changes. This is the maximum length we can do, and we might put the polished version of this cut out as a director's cut in the DVD.

Mike, I regret not using your last name somewhere. It really is such a nice last name. Your first name... eh.

Yeah, the script was 116 pages, so... we kind of screwed the whole length issue right from the get go. It's a biggun, and I've got to cut as much as possible.

Haha I wasn't serious, but the first name goes well with the last. Otherwise it's pretty regular and eh.

That's the extended trailer, where is the regular trailer? That was too much for me. I want 30 seconds of the essence of the film.
