Ummm, Halo will never be as fun as Mario and Mario will never be as fun as Halo.

There isn't a single word I disagree with there. I know what you're implying, but your statement doesn't prove or disprove anything, except that one game stinks and the other doesn't. Halo has been overrated, and I've given it a shot. It's way too poor of a FPS and is widely considered as the most OVERRATED video game of this generation, and I agree. Halo has never been an outrageous amount of fun.

But I can name SEVERAL Mario games where they are a blast. Some are too easy, some on rare occasions, are somewhat difficult (Lost Levels). They've mixed formulas and changed things around. He's one character that's stood the test of time. I buy Mario games because they're fun. When it comes to FPS, I'm better off buying Call of Duty or the new Modern Warfare 2 game.

Seriously, I've WATCHED Call of Duty be played, and it's more entertaining than actually PLAYING Halo 2 or 3.

Quite frankly, your statements only seem to indicate that you have never played on a Wii, played a Mario game, or you're just a straight up EXBAWKS FANBOI.

NSMBW is some of the most fun I've ever had playing multi-player. I almost entirely detest multiplayer gaming, especially online multiplayer, aside from party games like Rock Band or games specifically made for multiplayer like Brawl or sports games.

Mario translates unbelievably well to multiplayer. It's a lot harder with more people though, because of how chaotic it gets: I had 5 game-overs and never got more than 30 lives. Now that I've had time to play single-player, I haven't gotten below 90 lives once I got there.

I'd rank the single-player difficulty directly between SMB3 and SMW. With multi-player, it's actually pretty hard but way too much fun for that to be a problem. Nowhere near "The Lost Levels" hard, though.

Oh, I can't get passed World 4 in Lost Levels. Darn springs and timing jumps. Why does the gap have to be so large anyway? It's almost as difficult as my early stages I made in Mega Man Powered Up!

And is the 1-Up system broken in that game? I mean, it was just insane in the original NSMB.

Well, the game on Multiplayer seems to give you a ton of 1-Ups, but I never lived long enough to accumulate enough of them.

The Mushroom Houses that give you a ton of 1-Ups is in the form of a Canon Mini-Game rather than a "Hit The Blocks" thing the DS game did, so it's a lot harder to hit the 1-Ups.

I've been stuck on World 6 of The Lost Levels for over a year now, and it's not like I stopped trying. Whenever I'm bored I boot it up on the VC and give it a whirl.

The only reason I said I might not be interested anymore is because I've never played any of the New Super Mario Bros. games and I don't really have an interest in them even though I'm sure they're as awesome as everyone says.

There's only been one "New Super Mario Bros" game before this one, and that was really just the next sidescrolling Mario game after Super Mario World. This is the next one after that, which also directly succeeds Super Mario World since it's the first sidescrolling Mario for a console since that one. They're really no different than the old ones except that Mario can do a little more, like wall-kick and triple-jump.

That much I know but I didn't want to waste time figuring out another way to say that because the main reason I came on MMM today was CYE.

The best way I could explain the game to someone very quickly: It's like Super Mario 64 meets Super Mario Bros.

It takes all the classic side scrolling feel and adds new ways to play with moves like pounding the ground, double jump, triple jump, wall climb, etc.

But now I'm just repeating what Alec said.

Playing NSMBWII.  I have only one complaint on it, and that's the control scheme isn't great.  Neither the sideways wii remote or nunchuck configuration are completely good and NEITHER are even CLOSE to 3/World in-so-far as how butter smooth they control.  Which is a shame because the DS NSMB was just as good as 3/world (of course it was pretty much an SNES pad configuration).  Why Nintendo DIDN'T build in support for a classic controller scheme is beyond me.

That said, the game is fantastic.  Propeller Suit is God Tier.  Multi player is a lot harder due to chaos and all the accidently killing your friends, but single player is pretty easy (thus far, I blew threw world 1 with my eyes closed).

If they'd fixed the controls, this would be God Tier Mario.  As it is, it's only High tier.

Don't own the game, but I intend to. I'm still looking forward to it, but that's definitely surprising. I mean, I personally WOULDN'T expect playing this game with a nunchuk, so I would've thought Nintendo would've made it Classic Controller compatible.

Posted on: 18 November 2009, 23:29:17

Just to add a note, has anyone played the Mutiplayer on the original NSMB? It is MAD fun (maybe an exaggeration but I don't care). So much stuff could happen. Killing your friends was so much fun, when I heard about co-op in this game, it brought back some great memories.

I'm so bothered by the lack of Classic Controller support. I thought "Hey, let's use that instead!", and then I get the message it's incompatible. Come on Nintendo. Is it THAT hard to set the spin jump to the A button of the Classic Controller and give us World controls?

Also, being unable to use Yoshi outside of levels he's in is lame.

Currently on World 4 with 50 lives.

Yeah it seems really ridiculous the classic controller isn't supported. This game would've been perfect for me in high school, though.

You don't get classic controller support because they want to shove the motion sensor feature down your throat.

That's why so many elements utilize it.

It's ironic that the Wii's main attempt at innovation is the primary flaw in all its top tier titles.

It's ridiculous though, because the DS more or less moved past forcing use of the touch screen (outside a few first party Nintendo titles ::cough::zeldastarfox::cough::) and reserving it's use when it actually fits/benefits the gameplay of the game.  The Wii hasn't seemed to follow suit.  Then again, it's not followed suit on the NES/SNES level quality of 3rd party games either.

...well, it's still leaps and bounds better than the GC and the N64.

The 64 had its share of great games, too... just a smaller share. Biggest problem it had (the same problem the PSX had, in fact) was the growing fad of 3D games and the fact that 3D technology still hadn't reached the level necessary for truly beautiful visuals in such games.

But shot for shot, I still maintain the SNES has the best library of any non-PC game platform in history.

I only began to realize this when I bought Punch-Out!!

Because the game is great when it plays like a NES controller with the remote sideways, but when you go to the menu, you can't just use the D-Pad, oh no. You have to actually point at the screen to navigate anything.

I only like it as a secondary option. Like Rez said, they don't pull this crap on the DS. I have games that are designed for touching the screen, but I'm just much more comfortable playing it with the buttons alone.

Playing Broken Sword on the DS.  Never played them back in the day, and I must say the game has aged quite well from comming from the late 90s.  It's a great old school point and click game adventure game.  I hope they port the other 3 games as well.

So I borrowed Brutal Legend from a friend.
I beat it already, 3 days was all it took, and like 6-7 hours. would have been about 5 without side missions.
It's damned short, only worth a rent, and is piss easy until the final battle, which is just plain unfair.

So, uh, it's okay and has a great plot twist, but I'd give it a 6/10.

I beat Borderlands the other day. Not a fan of the lack of an ending, but I'm probably going to finish doing all of the jobs before I move on to another game, which will probably be Assassin's Creed II or The Saboteur. And then once the kids go home for Christmas break, I'll get my copy of Jurassic: The Hunted back from one of my student workers.

And then I get to punch a raptor IN THE MOTHER#####ING FACE!

If that alone isn't worth $40, I don't know what is.
