I went to Best Buy to buy Mario Kart Wii today.

They didn't have any in stock.

So I bought $50 worth of DVD's I've been wanting and hoo boy did I make the right choice.

Now that I have my own computer, I`m able to do a whole bunch of things I couldn`t do when I didn`t have my own machine.

Like put DOSBox on it. Now I`ve been playing like four hours of TIE Fighter a day. Unhealthy? Yes. Awesome? YES.

I'm got Zack and Wiki last night.

I played it for a bit and it was OK. I won't be playing it hardcore until exams are over, though (Exam 1 starts in an hour).

It's the same story in a lot of places right now, including here. I haven't kept a single copy of Mario Kart in my store for more than a day since it was released.

I was just playing some Xenogears today.
For the most part I've decided I like the game. It's at least more interesting than Xenosaga (even though I still feel like I'm watching the game play itself a lot).
I do not, however, like the fact that you have to overlevel to progress normally, or bosses will destroy you.

And that counterattack that doesn't SEEM like it's a counter attack thing?
I'm tired of getting my rear handed to me from that.

Oh, well.
Better than doing nothing.

Or playing any of the current games.

Play Dragon Quest VII.

If you like basic turn based RPGs that takes 100 hours to beat. Even though the game is painfully linear.

I can't even bring myself to beat VIII, and it's the most appealing of all of them to me.

Truth be told, out of standard RPGs, the only one I can stand is Wild Arms.
Junk like Grandia, Lunar, Legaia... those are more my speed.

I dunno what compells me to play the Dragon Quest games. I hate that turn based battle system because its so old and its barely updated in each game yet when I play Dragon Quest I get sucked in and end up playing for a few hours.

You should try Star Ocean 2 if you haven't yet. I think the game has been remade for PSP and is coming out in English soon if you're interested.

I say Star Ocean 2 instead of 1 or 3 because its the superior one out of the three.

I have tried quite a few RPGs, none are as fun to me as Tales games.
I LOVE open battles.
It's like a fighing game AND an RPG rolled into one.

I hate random battles, I hate having to grind for more than 20 minutes to beat anything.

Try playing the original Grandia. It might be turn-based, but it does fun things with the battles, none of them are random, and you can just cruise through the game without fighting everything you see (and there are only a set number of enemies in a dungeon, so if you want to go back and nab a chest you missed a few steps back, the enemies stay gone).

Star Ocean 2 is probably one of my favorite games of all time. It's a lot like Tales in some respects, but it even makes the out-of-battle game fun. You can make crap.

They're also re-doing the first game for the PSP in the style of the second. Personally, I think that'll be a big improvement... maybe enough to make it worth finishing at least.

Never heard of Star Ocean until now. If they remake the sequel for the PSP, I might give it a try.

It'll give me another game to buy on the PSP platform at least.

I love the Tales series. I'm also quite heartbroken that the newest incarnation will be 360 exclusive. Just when I was able to remove Bioshock from my "reasons to give in and buy one" list, I have to add Tales of Vesperia.

Chron, I like the sounds of those.
I MIGHT have to give them a try.

They're quite good, but it's not likely that they'll come close to touching the throne that Tales sits in. Particularly if you've played most of them.

You can do that in the original Lunar too, because all the bosses stats are based on Alex's. Ex: The boss on the ship or whatever has x11 of Alex's stats all over, so no matter what Alex's stats are you should be able to fight him successfully and not ever actually be forced to grind.

Grandia's bosses are static in terms of stats, but it's the same company so yeah. I like Lunar 2 better myself, but both games are good for a smooth play through (admittedly 2 is a little tougher).

Oh, awesome.

I hit a bit of a lull in it. One of those cases where you haven't saved for a bit and then you die after an hour of work. I wasn't planning on picking it again soon anyway, but I will finish it. It's a good game.

I never actually got to play any sequel (or prequel) to Lunar: SSS Complete. Mainly because I've never found a single copy of Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for sale in my life since I fell in love with the first one. The "newest" Lunar I've played was Lunar Legend, which is just a retelling of SSS on GBA with new sprites anyway. Not bad though.

That Lunar game on the DS is bad, apparently.

The only Lunar game I've played was the first one on the Sega CD, and to my knowledge, that game is the first half to Lunar: SSS Complete. I'm probably wrong, though.

I heard Grandia is a sequel to Lunar; made by the same guys at a different company. Sort-of like Xenogears and Xenosaga.

Grandia isn't a sequel to Lunar, but it incorporates a similar (but more interactive) battle system. It was made by the same people.

That is the prevailing opinion among the Grandia fandom as well. Xtreme is sort of hit or miss for most people, but if you really like the battle system, it's dead on. III was just missing so much to be a good standard game... story, battle scaling, battle features (why would you REMOVE team attacks?)... and the character development system wreaks of FF influence.

Strangely, it has more closure to it's end than any RPG I've ever played.
Which is good.
There shouldn't be more of it.

I heard from a friend they're making a sequel to Tales of Symphonia. I know nothing about it except for the fact that he saw the game poster.

Is that what you were mentioing Edge? Tales of Vesperia?

Tales of Vesperia is a Tales game for XBox 360 that has nothing to do with Symphonia.

Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratoask or something is a direct sequel to Symphonia (taking place 10 or something years after the events) where you can recuit monsters for your party.

If I recall from an article, there is no overworld map, just a point-and-click interface.

None of the new characters look even mildly interesting, either. The only reason to play it is to see the older characters. Granted, the graphics have seen a dramatic improvement.

I don't think I'll particularly care to play it.
... there's also an "Elemental grid" system in the battles, which is almost exactly the same as the field effect in Chrono Cross.

On one hand, I'm glad to see the system in use.
On the other hand, it doesn't look like they're using it for anything but a single gimmick. Never good.

I won't until I'm half decent at it, which due to my total play time of it being about an hour so far, I am not.

I almost bought GH:Aerosmith today but resisted because that'd push SSBB further down the playlist.

I've been playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Sega Superstars Tennis, Bejeweled 2, and Texas Hold'em as of late.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has been getting really frustrating as I've progressed through the storyline. I currently don't have a squad with me to help take some of the fire, and this semi-realistic one-man army crap is starting to annoy me.

Sega Superstars Tennis is a lot more fun now that I've unlocked some of the mini-games. The whole Virtua Squad (wasn't it originally called Virtua Cop?) section is fun as all hell, as it's like you're playing the game with a tennis ball and racquet. The Space Harrier stuff sucks though.

Bejeweled 2 is great; I'm enjoying it a lot more than Hexic 2, although both are great games.

At first I sucked at Texas Hold'em, but I'm slowly learning the game. My only problem is that whenever one of the computer A.I.s goes "all in", they ALWAYS win that hand. Yet times when I have to go "all in", I never do. Cheap as ##### sometimes.

I beat Kirby Crystal Shards with my friend and we are now starting a game on Paper Mario.

Me and my friend share playthroughs of certain games we both beat and liked. With KCS we took turns for each level/death. With Paper Mario, every 15 minutes we're switching.

We've also done this with Super Ghoul's and Ghosts and Donkey Kong Country 2. It's pretty fun, sharing your 1P experiences with a friend.
