That sounds like something that'd be awesome the first time you see it but then instantly becomes annoying as hell.

It'd be awesome if when you reach 100 years old in real life, gold and hearts rain over the entire campus of the college you graduated from in real life.

...for the first time you see it but then it'd instantly become annoying as hell.

Uh no, that would be a LOT better. The money and hearts are completely useless. There's nothing to spend money on, there's no way to be hurt.

All they is make noise go all over the #####ing place, and waste my controller's battery because it's rumbling every two seconds.

Yeah, I was thinking it could be better, but it's still nothing compared to something.

It just sounds like poor game design. For me, what I really don't like is when you 100% a game and all they reward you with is a giant screen that says "CONGRATULATIONS!"

I am actually a huge fan of the five-second "CONGRATULATIONS!" screen because it makes me laugh that they thought that should be your prize for beating their game.

It feels more like, "CONGRATULATIONS FOR WASTING YOUR TIME. NO SOUP FOR YOU!"

I'm pretty sure Mario Sunshine did that junk, so I'm glad I didn't do that. Mario 64 was cool though, getting 99 lives (Although it would've been cooler to ride Yoshi himself throughout the game. That's more incentive to actually replay it).

As soon as I got 120 stars and beat Bowser in Mario 64 I shut it off. No point in talking to Yoshi, no point in getting 99 lives if there's nothing else to do.

Is it really necessary to get something for doing 100% that makes you want to continue playing when there's nothing else to do? I'd rather just get an added ending scene or something and let that be it. And when I get nothing at all, it doesn't matter, because obviously the game was good enough for me to want to finish it 100%.

I thought Luigi Mode in Super Mario Galaxy was really nifty, and the knowledge of a Yoshi cameo is the ONLY reason I got 120 stars in Mario 64, but I was young and that's probably not enough incentive for me now.

I think it's cool when a game gives you a "go ahead, break the game" sort of prize. I can't think of any examples because it's rare. But I like it because it's basically like, "Okay, we know you beat it all entirely, and you can't really do anything else, so here, now you can fly and walk through walls and stuff. Just mess around."

The best example I can come up with on cue is the early Tony Hawk games, which had a bunch of awesome cheats like flying, slow-motion, moon physics, and all that for after you beat it.

The dumbest one they gave though was perfect balance. It WAS fun, but also... c'mooooon.

Yeah same here.

Yeah, I've been wasting my time with Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete on the PSX.
Figured I'd give it a shot considering how I've been told repeatedly that it's a good game.

I'm enjoying it so far.

Fair enough.

I just have other things I need to be doing like studying up for exams.
Alas, video games of many assortments have grabbed my interest. Well, that and I don't really give a damn about how well I'm going to do on exams. I know I should, but I don't.

But, yeah, playing Lunar reminds me that I should finish Grandia.

It's way too late in the Wii's lifespan for Punch-Out!! to have come out.
Way too late.

Prototype looks kind of stupid from ads and I haven't found a demo of it on Xbox Live so I can't say if it's even interesting to me. A little maybe. Same thing for Infamous but that's for PS3 anyway so forget that.

Prototype is amazing is what it is.
You absorb any person or enemy around you, you gain their knowledge and their abilities.
It also reminds me a lot of spiderman in the way you run around the city.

Check out this video.

OK. The title "3 minutes of gameplay" I could rip enough. A bunch of stuff was clearly taken from cutscenes and not gamplay. But whatever, I guess it looks cool but I'm not sure. I mean "absorbing enemies and gaining their knowledge" just sounds like a gimmicky way of saying you're getting experience points, and it didn't seem like anyone had abilities better than the Prototype to absorb. It seems like running around the city could get boring if you're not intent on causing extreme chaos, but then there is a story so I'm sure all that's fine. I'll probably rent it but not buy it right away.

Well, you can take the form of them too.

Also, lots of that was gameplay, just at a cinematic angle.

Think: you absorb a soldier, infiltrate a base as such soldier, and continue stealing higher ranking forms until you get to a general who knows everything, and absorb him.
Then you can continue the story, but you'll also know all of the strategies.

Also, you can't take control of any vehicles unless you've absorbed someone who knows how to drive them.

The whole idea is that you're trying to figure out who you are. Alex knows nothing.

I heard that there's not much of an option to not be an asshole in Prototype. Though I suppose trying not to kill civillians with those sweeping attacks and fighting evil soildiers can be considered good.

I'm downloading the inFamous demo. I know nothing about it except that it reminds me of Static Shock. I liked that cartoon.

Ahaha, when I watched the trailer for that, I thought the SAME thing about Static Shock.

And yeah, from the trailer, it looked like Prototype's "story" was: "you're a douchebag, just kill things with your superpowers."

Are there any more layers to the story than that? What are the actual objectives?

No, I was saying that IF the story is JUST that simple, I think it's a great premise and probably an extremely fun game, despite the fact that it might be very quick to lose its appeal.

Of course, I doubt that's all there is to it. There's probably some super dumb story that goes with it to explain why this guy has all these powers, why he's being pursued or chased or whatever by a stupid military or police or whatever organization, all that.

Because you HAVE to have objectives or else it's really not a game.

But still. This is the sort of thing that's probably more fun just dicking around in than actually playing.

Don't bother checking out Damnation. The steampunk western stuff might make you think it will be really cool, but the coolness factor stops at the concept. The game plays like a #####ty Gears of War 2, the weapons are all complete ass, and the voice acting sucks.

It's always the games that I look forward to so much that end up sucking incredibly. First Too Human, now Damnation.

I could have told you about Too Human wayyyyy before it came out. I hadn't heard of Damnation but I'm glad you said to avoid it, 'cause the steampunk western style would've had me trying it out.

I finally watched Kung Fu Panda so I guess I'll try out the game soon.

I'd try Infamous if I had a PS3 but I don't think it really looks any good. Just to dick around in.

Finally got around to doing a complete playthrough of Half-Life 2. I'd gotten about 2-3 levels from the finish in my last one, but the save file was safely tucked away on a laptop I'll never touch again. Just finished it about half an hour ago.

Wow. Can't believe how much I missed just in those couple of levels.

Now picking up where I left off in Ep.1, though I kind of screwed myself over heading into the first zombie level :O

Dude, Half-Life 2 is the best FPS ever. Episode 1 is kind of boring, but it really picks up in Episode 2.

Anyboo, my current rotation is Team Fortress 2 (on the PC), Punch-Out!!, Animal Crossing: City Folk (since I have no resemblance to a real life anymore), and I just started Assassin's Creed.
I doubt I'll finish Assassin's Creed. It's not very fun, I hate the controls, and the story bores me. I'm probably just going to try and finish it as fast as possible or just forget about it.

Saying something is the best FPS ever is like saying this turd is better than this turd. Well no, not that extreme. I'm not a big fan of the genre but I like some of them. Still I have to say this; "Dude, Half-Life 2 is the best F###### Piece of S### ever."

I actually have nothing against HL2, it's just the thought I had.

Half-Life 2 is a thousand times more fun than any other FPS I've ever played (i.e. actually fun).

I've still never done a full play-through, but I've played the first half of the game at least 4 times. One of these times I'll just start at the halfway point and actually finish it.

But yeah, it's not like any other FPS. It's actually good.

So I agree with Mike's post entirely, just not the inclusion of HL2, but then he said he had nothing against it, so, okay, yeah, now this post is pointless, but WHATEVER.
