I'm actually somewhat interested in Mass Effect Andromeda. This is coming from someone who gave up on the series after Mass Effect 2 not because I didn't overall like Mass Effect 2, but at the time I had more of a chip on my shoulder about EA's takeover and all the DLC and gaming controversies so I had no interest in 3.

I will definitely get Yooka-Laylee at SOME point and I'll probably enjoy it.

I think right now I'm mostly just looking for something action RPG-ish that isn't a Souls game. I may get Skyrim for Switch because I still haven't really played that. Or Minecraft again despite that I was Anti-Minecraft for a long time. Turns out I enjoy making stuff.

I've beaten and am taking a break from Zelda. I dunno if I'm ever going to get everything in that game but I might try some sort of challenge run... sometime this year.

I got super excited about Mega Man 11. Like, tears in my eyes excited because my son will be old enough to try the game with me when it arrives later this year.

This made me smile.

I found Mass Effect Andromeda to be fun, but it definitely has some flaws. A lot of the sidequests are really pointless fetch quests (even worse than ME3's nonsense), but the main quests for each planet are handled better.

It definitely was rushed, most likely because of EA. It reminds me a lot of Dragon Age II, rushed and obviously not as good as the last game, but still enjoyable. But I'm also a sucker for Bioware games...

I do want to try Yooka-Laylee as well, but I just have so many games on my backlog already. I'll probably get to it sometime this year.

I totally forgot to talk about one aspect of me finally getting an Xbox One. Wife told me to see what stuff in the basement I'd be willing to sell to get the Xbox One. Put together a bunch of limited/collector's editions that I didn't really care about anymore and the Virtual Boy headset that I'd found in the trash when my old neighbors moved out. Took everything to the local independent video game store, and all said and done, the offered me $120 for what they were willing to buy, a bulk of it coming from the Virtual Boy headset (they'd use it for parts). Honestly, I expected to get $50, tops, and that's if they were generous. Plus a friend of mine from elementary school offered to buy some of the other CE/LE stuff for another $50. So we didn't even have to dip into the anniversary money, the Xbox One was paid for just on me selling video game ##### that I didn't want anymore!

Awesome! An Xbone for that cheap is a helluva deal. If I were selling my 2 year old one I'd sell it for more than that.

I think right now I'm mostly just looking for something action RPG-ish that isn't a Souls game. I may get Skyrim for Switch because I still haven't really played that.

You might want to check out Hollow Knight.

It's an excellent game in it's own right, but it definitely has some dark-souls esque bosses and the rest of it is melee metroidvania. I put like 30 hours into it, loved it.

And all DLC is free and there's still more to come. One of my games of the year, 2017, easy.

Finished Mario Odyssey.  It ALMOST edged out 64 as my favorite 3D Mario.  So close!  But amazing game.  Playing South Park The Fractured But Whole now.  Loving it.  It's an excellent follow up to Stick of Truth.

I am completely terrible at Rocket League but it is pretty fun to play with other people.

And I have the God of War Collection for PS3 and only really played a bit of the first one so... not sure if the new one is good or not. It seems alright.

I get to review Shantae: Half Genie Hero Ultimate Edition for my friend's podcast. It's pretty great so far.

Also, that RBI Baseball '18 got a HUGE overhaul just in time for the first day of baseball. It's not great, but it's much better than what initially shipped. I love playing the Home Run Derby mode.

Playing God of War now.

I really like the combat and it feels satisfying.  As someone who has never played the original trilogy, should I play them as well.  I know the games are different from the recent one, but I hear the game is very DMC/Bayonetta ish.

I threw away most of my weekend playing the new Battletech game. As a guy who generally likes the idea of tabletop wargames but not the idea of collecting armies, setting up boards or rolling 30,000 dice for 3 hours, this game ticks all the right boxes for me. Games that would be an hour or two on a tabletop are resolved in a neat 20 minutes or so, and the campaign system, while it starts out slow, is rich in content and never grows stale. Definite recommend for anyone who likes stompy robots and tactics games.

Awful?

Ah ha haha!  But no, BotW is fine as it is, save for the MOTHER #####ING WEAPON DURIBILITY HORSE#####.  It really could have used real dungeons.  The shrines didn't really scratch that itch (and the "beasts" are just a few shrines stapled together, not an actual dungeon).  GoW's style would NOT fit Zelda very well at all.  I like my games to be games not cinematic experiences.

Don't get the wrong Idea.  I loved BOTW, but after playing GOD OF WAR, it makes you realize that Nintendo could have done more as far as exploration goes.  Go into caves and dense forests fighting enemies.  Dungeons that are actually outside and you don't even realize your in a dungeon.  BOTW didn't even have any real caves!

Really dungeons with more variety.  They got the overworld right for the most part.

Combat wise it should stay as Zelda.

Sorry, should have been more specific.

...I'm confused, because God of War is literally just an on rails walk down the predetermined path on each stage type of game.  There is no exploration at all in it.  Breath of the Wild, as it stands, is one of best "just explore" games I've ever played.  People who whine that you don't get a #####ing reward ever 2 seconds for walking somewhere are literally retarded.  Just seeing what it what and where everything is is the essence of exploring.  And in that, BotW is #####ing golden.

... Breath of the Wild is as open world as you get though.  God of War is the exact opposite of open world.  BotW was fine on content.  People who expect a #####ing level 100 weapon or super boss under ever #####ing rock on every peak don't deserve to play a game.

Now, BotW could have done with more enemy types, yes.  Maybe even increase the density of monsters.  Apart from that the afore mentioned adding of dungeons and some small caves like the series is known for would have been best.  But that doesn't take away from BotW being an amazing open world game.

I honestly do not see how you think GoW is an open world game with lots of exploration and that BotW should have done what it did to make itself better.

...ZELDA IS EXACTLY LIKE THAT THOUGH.  You can ignore pretty much the ENTIRE game for as long as you want as soon as you get off the great plateau.  I spent a good 5 or 6 hours just exploring and doing stuff before I even started really going to where the game said to when I got off.

An open game while linear in each area, allows you to go to any section of the map, but each section has linear paths that can branch out into other areas but will always lead you to the same destination.

Open world let's you go #####ing anywhere at all.

At least that's how I think it is.

An open game while linear in each area

So not open at all is what you're saying.  It can't be open and linear.  It's either or.  Just being able to choose an area to go to from a hub and then shuttled down a linear path isn't an open world game.

I haven't played God of War yet but I'd probably enjoy BotW more overall. I forget how many hours I put into it but every time I played I always discovered something new or learned something new about the world.

Still haven't gotten all the shrines done though.. but I'm close. I think I have less than 30 to go.

They tried to make the path to the Zora area pretty linear. I followed it, it felt good.

Next play through though? I'm doing that one last and coming right over the top.
