It doesnt really matter for other bits, but for 8 bit MM sprites due to their small pallete the addition of one color can make it stand out a little from the rest.

Yeah maybe, but I think if you're not trying to actually programming it into an NES game you can just let it go.

SO! I noticed something, if Mike's gonna run in the upcoming election, then he'll probably wipe the competition out with one swing of his stick-chuck-whateverthehell! I can't let that happen! Why? Who knows, but all I know is I'm gonna wipe the competition out before him, because I prevent ##### from goin' down!

VOTE FOR WINDUUHHHHH!!!!!!

On a serious note though, Mike. I'm still learning a lot of things in PS, could you maybe help with some custom symbols and some fonts for me?

Just anything really stylish and out there, I kinda need some speech bubbles as well, the ones I have are just filled ones, unless they're supposed to be filled for some reason I don't know?..

And the fonts you put up in that Mikero 08 poster are cool, do you have other like that?

I have... loads of fonts. You're probably gonna need to make speech bubbles on your own 'cause they have to change size and shape all the time, so I'm not sure what you mean. You have to make new ones like every time.

I haven't gotten any new fonts in ages unless for something very specific (I need the Army of Darkness font and the Quantum Leap font last year for this movie we made for a class), but I used to frequent 1001fonts.com, where you can download fonts individually and I think they're user uploaded so there's variety. Packages sound stupid. A lot of great fonts are band or TV show or whatever fonts, you can search it all anyway.

Trivia: Both the fonts I used in my poster were from musical people. Abe recognized one.

I'm currently doing vector art at school, and I've been working on this all week, the assignment called for a vector of someone you admire, as well as a quote or text of some sort that explains why you do. I did Greg Graffin of Bad Religion, you don't need to know who he is, don't worry. So I did all that and personally I'm proud of it, its my first one and I like to think I did pretty good. So I'm sharing it here, showing off my amateur art work, maybe you photoshop guru's can offer some helpful critisizm and help me out.

It's not fully finished, I'll probably do something quick with the background, and change the shape behind the text to something less snowflakey.

It looks very professional.

How exactly did you do it? Was this a freehand sketch first, or was it all edited on the computer?

And no, John, it wasn't a freehand sketch.

Thanks guys! Haha, it surprised me when you said it looks professional.

Basically John, a vector is just a bunch of shapes and colors pasted on top of a photo, it takes a dick load of layers to get the job done : \

He should really just shave his head.

What I was thinking.

That usually looks a lot better, but it wouldn't in this guys case. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.

WARNING: SCIENCE CONTENT
-----
A vector trace is a process by which a raster (or raw) image is converted into a series of colored polygons via mathematical means.

In some cases, the trace is done by hand, but it can be efficiently automatized given a structured algorithm. Usually this algorithm is in the form of:
1. Find areas of like color.
2. Bound areas in polygons formed by vectors (line segments, basically... hence the name).
3. Set the polygon's color to the "mean" color for that area.
4. Repeat until all areas in the image are bound by polygons.

A threshold value is usually set to determine how great a difference in hue/contrast/intensity should trigger different areas.

Conversion to the vector formula can sometimes result in smaller sizes, but in the case of extremely complex shapes the process winds up taking a substantial amount of memory to store (although usually not as bad as a raw bitmap would be).
-----
I'm not sure exactly what Wind did here in terms of technique, but he did it well.

Yes, that is what a "vector trace" is, but not a "vector".  At least not as I know it.

To avoid confusion; a vector is, trying to put it simply and quickly, simple geometrics (lines, shapes, planes, polygons, etc.) called "primitives" that use mathematical equations to represent images. Where raster graphics (your jpegs, bitmaps, and the rest) are based on pixels and degrade when zoomed, vector graphics never lose quality when scaled (like in Flash).

So, when you save a vector image file it stores the data as a formula, allowing for the best quality possible at any time given the screen resolution and such (therefore, the only quality limitation is the output/monitor/printer/yougetit itself, and not the image).

Vector graphics are better than raster graphics in a LOT of ways, but not all. Don't ask me when to use raster and when to use vector because I really don't know how to balance them the most efficiently, though vector tends to print ridiculously sharper.

I never work in vector for art because it takes me longer because I have less practice with it, but really I should since the process for me is almost exactly the same as what I do now but with different tools.

And that's what a vector image is, but not a vector.

A vector is basically a geometric figure that has direction and magnitude. You could use an angle and a number, but most vector software will represent them in matrix format in order to perform calculations with them efficiently. This is especially useful in a 3d space.

I hate working with vector art; I find every program for working with it to be obtuse, and I don't understand how anyone could prefer it over raster.

Take out the word "images" and it's basically the same as what you said, I think.

Vectors are the straight lines that make up the shapes, but yes, that sort of is the idea.
