It seems odd that a different fire weapon somehow doesn't affect a boss weak to fire. Hopefully they have other weaknesses aside from their original ones.

Frankly it makes no sense.  If he's weak to fire, any fire weapon should work.

Apparently the X5 Mavericks had their names changed to what they originally were going to be, instead of the Guns N' Roses names.

So it'll be Spiral Pegasus instead of The Skiver, etc.

...I'm hoping they change the X6 names too but it seems unlikely.

OH #####!

X Challenge is not limited 8 general mavericks.  You can fight Vile, High Max, Dr. Doppler, etc.

I want a #####ing Double & Vile MK1 battle

Also we better #####ing get a Boomer Kwuanger/Gravity Beetle & Launch Octopus/Volt Kraken match up.

Also on the subject of X5, it's funny how they changed the names of the Mavericks, yet couldn't be bothered to make Alia's interruptions optional like X6-X8.

To be fair, altering text or font graphics is probably way easier than removing stuff coded in the game.

Still, it would've been nice if they at least did some more of the stuff they were going to do for the X Collection on PS2/GC, but then removed because of Maverick Hunter X.

Like having X4 redubbed, X6 getting an English dub... fixing the stupid X6 Zero issue where if you're on a rail and jump slash you dive bomb into a pit...and fixing up X5 and 6's localized dialogue.

...also, I'll laugh if the X5 Mavericks have their names changed in X Challenge but in-game X5 still has the old names.

When you spend time on 4chan's /v/, you tend to adopt the culture and it spills over to other boards.

But anyways, I pre-ordered the PS4 version digitally (I've got a 1TB hard drive so of course), and it comes with a nice theme.  Alia, Layer, & Pallete as a wallpaper is sweet.

I don't think there is an X vs Zero theme in Legacy Collection.  Just a bunch of original songs, plus the remixed version of X1 stage start & stage clear and X1-X6 boss themes.

Probably some hint for X9.

Its good that the trophy list is actually decent this time. I was fully expecting it to just be "Beat each game once as each character and play the X Challenge Mode" and nothing else.

If we do get an X9, the story needs to be self contained.  After the disaster of the X5/X6/Zero/X7/ debacle, we don't need to add onto the pile of garbage that Capcom/Inafune had left for us.

I just want to pretend the Elf Wars/Zero/ZX never happened and that X gets to finally live in a world where humans and reploids coexist happily.

You guys really shouldn't read so much into a secret image and a secret track, think of how many times we've been burned before.

I mean... I want it to be an X9 hint as much as you guys, and that's how it looks in those descriptions, but it could easily just be an unlockable song from Command Mission or some such #####e too.

Keep in mind Mega Man Legacy Collection gave us a tease of 11 so it's not out of the realm of impossibility.  That said, I'm not quite sure I really want X9 anyway considering the #####show the story has become.

More footage of X Legacy Collection 2 X Challenge.

Take Note:  The music heard is X2 - Boss.  This means you can probably change the music during the boss fights.

I still don't like the mixing of 32 and 16-bit sprites.

Also I just noticed X is way taller compared to Chill Penguin than he is in X1. Wheel Gator too.

Yeah... Yeah, I'm not really into this mode, to be honest.

I really like the mode. It caught me off guard at first that the sprites were mixed, but I'm not convinced a larger, 32 bit Chill Penguin would be inherently better on account of how it will redesign the boss. I think maybe bosses should feel as much like they originally felt as possible, more than anything else, because that's what veteran players will expect to go by when fighting them.

And I could go either way on which version of X they should pick, but to me it would have to be one size. Seems like an inherent problem with allowing them to mix, but it's a problem I'd rather just accept than not be able to mix bosses from different games which seems like the whole point of this.

I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like it's arbitrary and I could make an argument for either, and I'd rather take the side where I have one less thing to complain about. My first priority is that it's fun to play.

Something also occurred to me. Is this game even getting all of the same gameplay modes that classic Legacy Collection had? Or is the X Challenge replacing them?

So interestingly, while I was looking for Chill Penguin-X's size relationship in X1 for my last post, I saw this image where someone made their own updated version of Chill Penguin based on his more modern MHX art direction. Now, I'm not sure but I don't think this is exactly 32-bit but regardless I actually think that looks pretty damn good as an "upgrade" without changing the character's overall tone. Having said that I absolutely would have the same worries as you as far as the gameplay is concerned.

You are not wrong. I really wish MM's size was standardized better, and specifically I think he shouldn't be so much bigger than the early bosses (X1-3). It makes them so much less threatening for one, but more importantly it ruins their design. And I do think it's do-able...

We sort of have to do this thing in animation, with character lineups. To an extent, I did this constantly when making my own sprite art in the way back. I could make a quick image on how to do it, but basically you just have to take X from each game and get them to be the same height (or very close). After that all you need to do is keep the bosses (and other characters) relative to their respective game's X, and that should synchronize just fine. It's something that takes long but isn't at all difficult, so if I'm being completely honest that kind of lazy over sight is red flag for me.

Perhaps what they could have done is have X Legacy Collection 1 be 16-bit with X1-X3 mavericks, then have X Legacy Collection 2 be 32-bit with X4-X6 mavericks.

It would have left less options, but would have looked a hell of a lot better.

Mashing up different sprite generations/styles is a bad idea.  When you have such a Frankenstein look to it (like every early 00's flash game/animation), it's probably best to just not do it at all.

With 27 different battles per volume, would it have really mattered?  Don't forget these battles also include fortress bosses so even with it halved there are still alot of options.

I think it's something that if you're going to do, put time and money into it and do it right.  This is really just a big "throw mismatching art pieces together and call it a new game mode" and it looks extremely amateurish and tacky.  AT BEST.

More new boss mashups discovered

4-3:  Storm Eagle & Toxic Seahorse
2-3:  Volt Kraken and Shielded Sheldon (Why the ##### isn't Launch Octopus his partner!?)
4-3 (vol2):  Armored Armadillo & Shining Firefly (Wait...why are they reusing Armadillo again?  Isn't he partnered with Rainy Turtloid)

Posted on: 20 July 2018, 00:03:22

On another note, the OST for X Legacy Collection is out!

The music sounds...trippy and relaxing as for original tracks go.  I like it.

The remixes are ok.  But I really dig the remix for the TOTAL RESULTS track.

Edit:  Holy #####.  RE:Future is #####ing awesome.  There is even a Japanese and ENGLISH vocal version of the track.

Posted on: 20 July 2018, 11:54:42

Other notes I've discovered:

You can change the music in the X challenge to either the original version or the remix version.  This includes sound effects.  So if the remix version isn't your fancy, you can at least switch to the original.

Ok.  It just downloaded onto my PS4 and began playing.

Started with X4 & X8.  Also the codes for both X4 and X8 work and you start will all difficulty modes already for X8.

I think I may play X7 just to get it over with and never touch again.  Of course I'll be turning voices off so I won't have to deal with BURNBURNBURNBURN.

Then I'll give X challenge a go after that.

I'm waiting for mine to arrive in the mail, then I'll probably play X1 and X4, then probably X5 because of the minor text changes.

In addition to changing the Maverick names, they also fixed the "Octopardo" line.

...and then they touched nothing in X6's dialogue. Also X6's opening and ending themes were replaced in the overseas versions. I haven't heard what the songs are or if they're original or not... X6's Opening Stage theme is the Japanese version instead of the better overseas version, which kinda sucks.

X1's script is the original SNES version and not the slightly edited one from MMXC where they added "damn" and then #####ed up Sigma's death dialogue.

X7 and X8 are rendered in higher resolution but the menu art isn't so it looks like kinda half assed.

Aside from that it does seem like decent ports of X1-8, but that's not really shocking after Classic's Legacy Collection 2.

I'll probably skip X1 when I get the collection. Between my real cart and the SNES Classic, I've played it so many times recently that I need a refresher on the rest of the series. Probably go straight to X4.

Also so far X Challenge is... ok. I've fought the same few Mavericks way too many times though. I've already fought Chill Penguin and Neon Tiger three times so far.

There's a Colonel & General fight but it's about as unbalanced as you'd expect...
