Cursory glances at reddit at gamefaqs seems to suggest Red Sun, though. But there's a suggestion that you can become overpowered more easily in Red Sun, which is why I think people like it more? Doesn't make the game better necessarily but yeah, less painful.

on the topic of the new sprites, i like them more than the old ones, much brighter and just look more fun to me, i don't really know why

The sprite redos in 4 were awful.  Actually 4-6 are just not very good games.  I think I bought Red Sun back in the day, saw how ##### it was and never finished it.  Saw what 5 was, never got it.  Saw what 6 was, never got that.  No regrets.

I think I recall who you fight in the tournament is random, and to get all the souls you had to replay the game like 3 times.  I was aiming for Roll Soul, but didn't get her and the game is just such an awful slog (and just a really REALLY crappy game) that I didn't play much past that part.  I know I didn't finish the game, that's for sure.

and i have done a whole lot since my last post, i've gotten to where i meet shadow man and that means i have knight soul, pretty powerful and i used a dark chip to see how powerful it was,

once again i've done a lot of stuff, met toad man, got toad soul, fought evil colonel, got colonel soul, stopped "soul net" from making everyone EVIL, and now i have this data disk, i think i'm nearing the end of the game and after this game i might do whatever battle network game you guys say is the best

And God, I'm still upset how ##### Battle Network went.  Oh well, at least the first 3 games are great.

i agree with both those statements, but if we act like 4 and 5 never happened, colonel was introduced n 3 and part of the story somehow, and then act like 6 was the forth one, it seems like a pretty good series with a mixed but fun final

4, 5 and 6 were all awful.  Though 4 is probably the worst of the worst.  6 is probably the least offensive of the 2nd trilogy, but it's still pretty #####.  None of them come close to how good the first 3 were.

I'm pretty sure I played Blue Moon over Red Sun but I'm curious why one would be drastically received as "better" than the other. They are absolute ##### but they should be more or less equal. I couldn't say Pokemon Red is "better" than Blue, even if I have my preference (Red).

Anyway I detest the sprite work of BN4. The higher saturation of the characters removed a charm and synergy that was present in the first three. The sprites are "smaller" yet look at that last screenshot: Megaman is taller than an entire floor of a house!

It's just sad that the in-game art suffers so hard in the already poorly written (and paced) rest of the series, since a lot of the newer design artwork was really great (Especially the Soul forms like Tomahawk Man and Wood Man). It's like there was NO chance at making a good game.

I don't really think playing these out of order is doing you any favours though.

Red and Blue had different Net Navis in them.  I think Roll was only in Blue, and Shadow Man was only in Blue or something like that, and I'm pretty sure there was no trading or moving from one to the other.  That's why Red was generally considered better, because it had the better Navis in it.

BN2 is one of the best Mega Man games.  1 isn't too bad, but rough.  3 is still good, but tries to do too much and isn't as good as 2, but I'd say it's a bit better than 1.  Then 4, 5 and 6 ##### their pants to various degrees, all being bad games.

Rez is totally right, John. It's worth playing the first 3, they're a fantastic series (with 2 being the best). It was a great way to refresh old MM characters, possibly the only "reboot" done well EVER.

It wasn't a sequel or reboot of Mega Man, it was a new thing using the existing characters, but not done horribly (like the latest cartoon).  BN, at least in the beginning, was how you do it.

I mean, that's why I put the word reboot in quotations. What I meant was more that it used elements of the original in a refreshing new way while still being completely it's own thing. Much unlike MMZ or, as you said, the new cartoon.
