ASR BLOG

Okay, so, I needed an art thread. About time, too. I've been too lazy to make a new one since the boards came back up. All images are hidden behind spoiler tags so as not to clutter the page. The artwork here ranges from a couple years ago to right now. Enjoy.

---
HAPPY LANDSCAPE
This was fun to draw, but it's very, very old now.

---
---
THE ADVENTURES OF OLDMAN
Another old cartoon, but I've always loved it.

---
---
VOICES [warning, violent]
A bit graphic, yes, but it had a message so it's forgiveable.

---
---
EVERYONE'S FAVORITE MORK MUFFIN!
The very first thing I ever drew in Flash. This little fellow has a special place in my heart, despite his crappy design.

---
---
WORTH LIVING
A bit different than my usual stuff, this was my final last year for Computer Graphics class. It's a combination of different photos and effects: a photo I took of the sun, one I took of Lake Michigan, one I took of a friend, and a bunch of generic happy scenery slapped around half-visible.
---
---
UNDERLAND
Nothing ever came of this small cast of characters, but I saved all of them:
The Grim Reaper
The Anti-Christ
Impedi/Impeddy
The Pope
Squidjee
Ted
---
---
ITOONS
I planned to make a Flash cartoon with these guys, but I never got past the promo teaser. I'll post that if I find the link.

---
---
THE MAGNIFICENT MO-MO
I drew this comic to make fun of my one of my friends...

---
---
I'M POPULAR WITH THE EMO KIDS
Hehehe...

---
---
THE ZOMBIE HUNTER
Taking it literally.

---
---
DIBOLO
I should really re-use this character. This turned out pretty well.

---
---
SIR LINQUE
Turned out pretty badly, but I still like the design and the emblem.

---
---
EVERYONE'S FAVORITE MORK MUFFIN IS HIGH!
More Mork!

---
---
MY FIRST MONOCLE RAPTOR
Uhhh, seriously. I have no clue, either.

---
---
ROCK AND BEAVER
Nothing ever came out these guys... 'twas a failed project between Jake and I.

---
---
MIKERO CAN'T EAT BURGERS
I drew this for Mike on his birthday. Always a laugh.

---
---
REZ IS OLD
I drew this for Rez on his birthday.

---
---
MY GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT
Use Strength on the truck behind the SS Anne!

SOMEWHERE NEAR
This is a comic strip I occasionally add to. So far there are 5 strips.

Strip 2
Strip 3

THE MANY INCARNATIONS OF ASR
Here you go, the definitive collection of ASR-themed artwork:

THIS SCHOOL SUCKS
10 pages done with hopefully more to come. It was a doodle-style comic I drew during class, and I had a lot of fun with it. It's still not done, but I'm having my doubts about finishing it.

And now, just today, I took that spaceman version of ASR and incorporated it into a new idea... I'm using the title of an old MMPU stage I made. It's called: The Simple Complex. I've re-used that title over and over again, but I assure you, this new idea fit the title well.
Here's some concept art:
The full page of concept artwork that I just doodled while I should be studying for finals.

Close-up of Alan Simple. Yes, it's no longer Ayesar - it's Alan Simple. Go with it.

Another close-up of Alan Simple, a bit different.

Redenbacher, Alan's floating sidekick.

Seabiscuit, Alan's trusty steed. Guess what its species is called?

Are you figuring out the outer-space theme, here?
Anyway, yeah, I've got tons of ideas for it, but I'm not going to let it interfere with the slow updates of MMMTV. I'm going to try and actually put some time into this... I like what I have so far.

EDIT: 2/5/08, promo page for The Simple Complex:

Ayestar. Alan Simple should transform into Ayestar, cosmic defend-or.

The name Alan Simple reminds me of Adam Strange, who is also a space faring man..

Ayestar, haha, I love it. It could work, but I don't really want to tie it in with myself.
Admittedly, most of my inspiration came from Calvin & Hobbes. Spaceman Spiff rocks.

Posted on: 21 January 2008, 22:23:16

Also, I forgot to mention that Redenbacher's first name is Orbille. Yes, I'm so damn clever.

The real reason I'm double-posting is because I want opinions on whether or not Alan should carry a blaster.

Hehe, alright.

I doodled this today, as well as brainstormed a crapload about the story. This could actually work.

Aside from the broken ankle, not too shabby.

About the blaster, they are cliché, make lasers shoot out the back of his forearms or his pinky fingers if he has to.

The reason I was wondering about the blaster is because, well, Alan is going to be a pacifist, but I still felt like a blaster was necessary.

I decided that I don't feel it's necessary.

The end.

He doesn't have to be weaponless to be a pacifist, you know.

Don't go with the blaster. If you have to have a projectile weapon make it only stun things, of course.

But I suggest you give him something like Glitch from ReBoot. Essentially, a weapon that's more like a utility belt all in one. It doesn't have any active weapons but in a pinch it can be a grappling hook, or a net, or a bolo tie, or a glider; You know, whatever. But limit it's capabilities.

More like Glitch than anything else. Gadget is a whole person and that's no good for this, and he wouldn't have to reach into it to get the item like Felix's bag.

Haha, it doesn't matter, I think I'm just keeping him weaponless.

I won't be uploading pages regularly, plus I intend to "finish" them all in color (probably digitally)... but I felt I should share the first completed page. I've been hard at work on this one.

In contrast to This School Sucks and MMMTV, this page actually took a few days to fully complete (as opposed to the 30 minutes it usually takes for a TSS or MMMTV page.)
I don't know why one speech bubble is randomly not in all-caps, and it's something I'll probably fix later. I didn't realize it until after I finished everything, but I think it's because I wrote "Sir Charles Simple" in normal style (not all-caps) right before the word bubble in question.

I'd really appreciate comments.

Very important plot device in The Simple Complex:

I wrote the entire will out for reference, but I hastily plastered it onto a generic blank parchment image so I could share it with you all in a more... interesting atmopshere.

It pretty much sets up the entire plot's central idea for you guys without giving too much away. What do you think?

Thanks. I essentially outlined the entire first chapter, which should be about 20-25 pages. I have so many ideas and they're all so good that I really hope I can actually finish this project.

I just want it to look perfect, so I haven't actually drawn any final pages, yet. I want it to look professional when I'm done, so I think I'm going to scan each page and color it with Photoshop when I'm done, which would allow me to be a little more sloppy when drawing so long as I clean it up later.

I've also got to design a character named The Colonel, a bunch of other Bullfrogs, and several of the business associates of Charles that will make appearances both at the funeral and later on in the story.

You maaaaaaay have to wait a while. I'm not only very lazy and very busy at the same time, but I'm also very concerned with making this entire comic seem professional and I've still got to find the right ways to do so, and decide how I'm going to draw it, etc.

For the record, I actually HAVE been working on The Simple Complex, but like I said, I'm holding it back.

More importantly, this post is not about that. It's about my self-portrait project in drawing class.

World of Ayesar (full shot link)

Zoomed shot:

It's unfinished, I've still got to color the top bit with the sky, sun, clouds, moon and stars, and then the grass etc. on the left side of my body.
My jaw is pretty deformed and doesn't look like me, but aside from that... yes. Whaddya' think?

Oh my god, Mike, you have no idea. That strip WAS my inspiration for this.
I had just bought that PBF book I was ironically just telling you about on AIM right when we were assigned this project, and I was fresh out of ideas so I went in this direction.
From there, everything went in a more "Alec" direction, but still, that same strip is exactly what spurred me on.

Today I decided I don't draw enough MegaMan stuff. So I started drawing MM1-related junk from memory. I didn't draw ElecMan though, mainly because I don't like him, even though I do like him, just, yeah.

...yeah. I had fun. All from memory, too, with my own spin.

Next, I drew this little masterpiece:

I appreciate the feedback, because I've been meaning to do some MegaMan stuff for a looooooong time now. I need a break from The Simple Complex, which I've really only been fine-tuning character-wise anyway. It's just too much focus on that, and I rarely draw anyway.

So it's nice to draw some MegaMan stuff. I have a ton of funny strip ideas and I can just draw them casually so expect to see some more.

I agree. I think it's because I prefer drawing either skinny-toothpick characters or round fat characters. When I have to draw someone with a full upper torso, I tend to overdraw.

ANYWAY more stuff.

I hate this one. It's stupid and very vague.

If I'm right, you're probably thinking "I don't know for sure if I get it." Good for you, it's my fault.
