Gems on X, Zero, Axl head?

Y'see, Axl shouldn't even be a main character. He's an oddball. If I'm not mistaken, X and Zero are both similar in character design. Likewise with the gems.

Axl is totally different. He should've been a helping reploid in the horror that is X7 and had just been killed off.

Again, it's just there for show. At the least, they're like headlights. They turn off when the car dies.

Anyway, again; I don't think it's a light, or eye, or anything. I think they just take in information. They take readings of crap. Or they're just gems, and that's the way it is. But they probably have a function. Robots aren't really made to have or into having frivolous luxuries.

Assuming the helmets can be removed, that's probably what it is.
Some sort of advanced sensor system. Might enable them to scan the surrounding area within a few feet to provide the sort of recon we get from our third person perspective in the game.

But I like the idea of it being a headlamp.

In X3, the upgrade Dr Light gives X lets him get radar images from satellites via the gem. He says it's a "sensor upgrade" or something to that effect. So the basic version might just scan in immediate area for hazards, or transmit a live video feed back to Hunter HQ so the Navigators can see what X and the others see.

Zero also has a seldom-used gun for an arm, but he opts to use a laser sword. In a futuristic world of bullets and beams and stuff, he tears through things with a laser sword.

Axl just carries around a couple of pistols. They aren't even attached to his body.

One of these things doesn't belong.

Axl, among his many, MANY, problems (Appearance, personality, THE FACT THAT HE'S ON THE SAME LEVEL AS X AND ZERO RIGHT OFF THE BAT, his wanting to bone X, that Reploid DNA bull#####, etc etc), he lacks a gun for an arm, and does not follow what has been a very awesome pattern and heritage.
