If my wireless is still lame this weekend, I'll be forced to be on this computer. That means I will totally try this out. I already have/had a program that let's you build in LEGO on your computer and then put in a form to order all the pieces you need to make whatever you built so you can actually have it.

It's actually a pretty genius idea for them.

It's a ridiculously pushy program.
You need a fairly new/capable computer to use it, or it doesn't even let it start.

For some reason it wouldn't start because I had the EA Downloader thingy installed.

Try uninstalling that and THEN run Spore (doesn't make sense but hey, it worked!)

Don't worry, I will never have an EA Downloader thingy installed on a computer under my jurisdiction.

And yeah, I can't download it off the link Lunche posted. And it would probably not work anyway.

Guys, T-minus three days till its release ^.^ Hours of life shall be lost.

I bought it yesterday, I must say that it is amazing. I am very impressed. I suppose there are some more things they couldv'e added. But, so far I've loved all the stages and space age seems to be insanely cool.

Dude, I made some guys.
They started out as like, some one eyed, biped dudes.
Then they were a cow lookin' thing.
Then like a dinosaur with drills.
Then Satan.
Then I toned down the Satan-ness.
Then they finally became some bat-looking impish dudes.
Like the whole time they were making everyone else go extinct.
Then they were all like some tribal guys who went around beating everyone up.
Now they're all like some really aggressive city people who go around in tanks blowing up other people's cities, taking them over, and then building a McSpewton's Drinkery. And they wear top hats and have moustaches.
My dudes are freaking evil.

So like then...

My dudes went around destroying and taking over the cities.
Then they got attacked by a giant hologram that was tellin' 'em all about religion and stuff. So they had to totally blow up the tanks projecting the image.
Then they took over the whole planet.
Then they built a spaceship.
Now they all wear neat space armor and fly around to other planets blasting other creatures just because they look stupid.

It's awesome.

The copyright stuff was really easy for me, just put in my code. And man, I just made it into the middle of the sapce stage and holy ####sticks it is amazing just how big it is. You could probably spend the rest of your life exploring all of the other planets and such. My planet keeps getting attacked though. Those damned fish people. Makes it a little tough to go too far out of your solar system, but it isn't too bad.

GeForce 4?

Assuming the rest of your computer isn't lagging as much behind North American standard (as in, around five years) as the video card, I think it's time to get GF8-series at least. Unless all you normally do with your computer is browse etc. anyway, in which case you needn't bother for at least another year.

On my dad's PC we have a Radeon HD3450 IIRC, but every other video card in the house is integrated, including the laptop making this post, which due to a combination of not having enough RAM for Vista and being an otherwise underacheiving piece of crap lags a whole six years behind industry standard.

I love Intel video cards, don't you?

Does anyone have any idea about how to get crop circles to interact with the tribe/cities? I have them, but they just freak every one out and they  run around super scared. If you do it right, supposedly you can then get those species to level up to the next rank (tribes would go to citties, cities to space and I even heard creatures would maybe go into tribe)

I wish I could get a GF5 or better. They are just TOO expensive here. And here, 1 dollar is 3.05 pesos (our local currency), so if something costs like 30 dollars, we have to pay almost 100 pesos. That's not good.

At all.

Anyway, my computer IS old. I think I've had it for, what, 7 years? Yes, 7 years. And we've only changed the video card and the screen. That's why the only thing I CAN do is browse. I can't put any games on it, they all work at Space Invaders speed. Damn my PC.

Well, I can safely say, having given the game ample chance, I'm disappointed.

For a game with such proposed depth, it's really quite shallow.

Yea, I'm hoping that the Space age will give me lots of entertainment, but I was a bit disappointed in how short Civ and Tribe mode were. Especially Civ mode, that could've been so much better.

Posted on: 13 September 2008, 01:03:04

I'm adding a poll to see what our favorite stage is.

Also, just wanted to share,

I was flying through space exploring solar systems, and I come across one that had two stars rotating around each other while having like 6 planets revolving around that. It was pretty amazing. Moments like that make Spore awesome and also make you wonder how much more awesome it would've been if they wouldn't have dumbed it down.

In real life binary solar systems have [probably] incredible activity energy-wise. Binary stars are more common than single stars like ours and planets can form there but it's weird.
Hopefully you checked those planets for life.

Tatooine is in a binary system, I believe.

:D yep, all the planets were inhabitable. I have heard of systems like that before in real life, I just thought it was awesome that they would think to put that into the game. I've even run into some other ones where it's a giant star that has a mini star in orbit around it which are both orbited by more planets. That too is pretty sweet.

Oh, you can also use black holes as wormholes XD I have yet to use it though due to how expensive it is.

In real life, yes. You would be compressed down to about the size of a strand of spaghetti.

But in Spore they work as a means of transportation so you don't have to spend hours getting around space. Still don't know how it works though x.x (The key is like $3,000,000)

In theory. Our understanding of black holes is pretty poor.

Also, Xzeemo, you're taking 'spaghettification' a little too seriously. A single line of elementary particles is hardly the size of a strand of spaghetti.

Yea, it just helps the visual I guess. It only makes sense that it would be that small if you had that much force pushing in on you. Which is why we have no real evidence on black holes xD We can hardly even find them.

The customization is mind blowing. Of course its only as deep as you want it to be but I think you could pretty much make whatever you wanted. You could spend hours perfecting a house, or you could just use a template. Its pretty cool like that. I haven't gone quite as deep as a few hours on one piece, but I've spent a lot of time in the creature creator. The amount of parts, how they can be manipulated, resized, grow, be painted in a unlimited amount of colors... It's crazy.

And yes, Spore for the DS is nothing compared to this. Its a really really cheap knock-off.

Yea so far the only stage that I've spent ample amounts of time in is the space stage. The other ones kinda force you to move on, so even if you stay, there's no benefit. Which is not cool. The creators are for sure the best part of the game though.

Which is good, since it's the games strongest suit.

The actual game play is pretty weak, and in the end, the way you built your creature means virtually nothing.

How is it that my two-legged creatures move at the same speed as my eight-legged ones?

Spiders have eight legs MOVE way faster than us. They don't travel as far as quickly only 'cause they don't have the stride. So I'd also expect eight-legged creatures to move faster than two-legged ones if they have similar proportions.

Fun fact: The reason most people are weirded out by spiders is because we don't understand their locomotion when looking at it.

But yeah, I really want to design stuff in that game!
