For me this is a really tough decision, I loved the way that the X series characters appeared as well as the way that the Zero/ZX series characters turned out. Starforce and BN were a little too puny looking with most of their characters and Legends was a little too bland in a way. Classic will always be great because of the cartoony look it has. So I guess I'm going to have to pick the X series.

I chose Classic, despite its varying art styles over the years. I've liked them all.

I looked at that, pondering, and then I totally felt stupid as I thought "Wait a minute, I just took a Precalculus Final Exam. Damnit..."

*sigh*

The characters overall looks were alright, maybe not in the games, but I like the way they look in concept and artist forms. Not all of them, just some.

Classic.

Everything else is too busy, except for Legends which is too samey.

Z/ZX things look a LOT better as sprites than as art, also.

...or a lot more hetero anyway...

Look, they look a lot more Xish when they're sprites than when they're in full on AIDS-tween-vision as art.

I love classic more now.. after looking at the Retro Roto's it made me think about the classic MM and how awesome and simple the art was.

Classic has the best combination of simplicity of form and raw style.

X is the second best but there's always a bit too much going on, especially with newer reploids. Not everyone needs 800 little doodads, it only helps them get more and more Gundam-y.

Legends is OK but is pretty much the Taco Bell of designs; Everything is made from the same six ingredients. Almost everyone who isn't a huge character looks like the same person.

Zero and ZX is gross. It's like the homo erotic pedophiles' wet dream version of Heavy Metal.

Battle Network and Starforce is cookie cutter Capcom anime style. It's not bad for what it is but it's not really anything new or even different.

It's a tough call... I had a hard time choosing between X and Battle Network actually. Because this is personal opinion there can be no correct answer.

Looking specifically at the character designs alone- the X series certainly has variety in armor designs and antagonist designs not to mention some very memorable and highly recognizable characters. Meanwhile, the Battle Network series, although many of the designs are redundant, each navi has their own navi-mark, a specific design catered to them. Also in the BN series the characters are more smooth and clear in their designs- so there isn't much confusion as to what a certain part of their bodies do (like Dr. Doppler's shoulder wire... things).

For this one, I have to say Battle Network had the best designs.

I can't choose between Classic and ZX. Classic's designs were kept simple throughout their many changes, yet they always looked neat and tidy, so to speak. But ZX's designs looked more appealing because of the fancy headgear and flashy colors.

Starforce's and BN's designs were simple in a plain way. Legends as well. And I can't say anything about X because unfortunately I haven't gotten a good look to analyze it.

ZX "designs"?

First of all, you can't cosider ZX as having it's own style since it's clearly just reused MMZ stuff rinsed with some mildly new ideas... barely. Same thing as Starforce being a BN wash.

Second of all, it sucks.

The drawn stuff is kind of OK except every character from the neck down. The ideas aren't bad but the implementation is awful. EVERYONE has the body of a taut preteen Swedish boy and they all wear banana hammocks. Actual robot stuff looks OK. It's kind of like Pat Lee's art (He did Transformers comics for a bit, and did Iron Man: House Of M). He draws wicked robotics but his people don't fit.

Even so, the sprites are garbage and are annoying to work with to make into anything decent.

Megaman Zero is my favourite look. Its not a tough as the X series, but overal I like the world, look and feel of the Zero series. Also its been a fun challenge to learn to draw these art style.

Because that's what every character in the Zero series looks like.

(I personally don't hate it, but it IS NOT Megaman's look).

Anyway, Mikero's post expresses my opinion exactly.

Classic has Wily.

I have a friend who thinks that Zero's design in the Zero series is better than his design in the X series.

I spontaneously punch him in the face whenever he says that. He's a Japanese-loving fantasy-rpg-obsessed computer-addicted kid who never really played the X series.  It makes me sick sometimes.

What a hate out on the Zero series, Personally i prefer Zero in his own series becasue he is more fluid and smooth. while in the X series hes too boxy. tho his face and body type was a bad change. Overal he may not look as tough in the Zero series, but at least he dosnt have green jewl breasts and white micky mouse gloves anymore.

I am now prepared to be ripped on for my reply.

I liked the busy designs actually, even though the Classic Robots still has a more "simple" hint to them (Including the Mega Man 8 robots). At least in my own opinion.

Legends is, eh. Battle Network has a mix of "yes and no".

I guess Zero/ZX artwork can be good in it's own way, but compared to X and Classic, it's a pretty big step back.

Star Force is just plain stupid.
