I decided to play the pass-out game during Physics today.  In case you've never played, what you do is bend over next to a wall and start to breathe really hard, until you start hyperventilating.  Then you stand up really fast and cross your arms over your chest, and you get two people to push you really hard against the wall.  Once they let go, pop, you're out.

Well I passed out.  First off, let me say that that is an experience I will never forget.  I remember the sound of everything and then nothing.  I woke up seriously thinking I was a dog with no limbs.

Then one of my friends told me I was seizing on the floor, and drooling.  In addition I almost broke my nose on a nearby desk on the way down.  I was literally inches from breaking my nose. He told me he'd never look at me the same way again.

It's been a weird day, for sure, I've run the entire spectrum of emotions, and it's been QUITE a rollercoaster ride.  Hahaha.

BUT I'M STILL HERE! Jake hasn't seen the pearly gates yet.

:D

P.S. I know I am stupid.

I did that once. It was not nearly as drastic as what you described, but I watched other kids do it and they all sort of hit their heads on the wall on the way down. I had a bump the next day and I'm pretty sure I know why.

It's a horribly weird feeling. I had like a ten second dream, woke up gasping and had no idea where I was as the memory sort of flowed back until I felt like a total idiot. I just remember imagining a crowd a billions of red people in red shirts screaming in a high-pitched squeal. Then it all "schlooped" away in that sound as I woke up. I will never forget that.

I remember doing that in 6th grade. Stupid #####, but hey, whatever.

After I passed out, I had like a 5 second dream of some random car driving like some sort of cartoon. Then I woke up on the floor. My head my hurting. One of my friends told me I was shaking when I passed out and slammed my head against the wall once.

I don't know if it was worth it or not.

Never experienced passing out.

Maybe I had amnesia or brain damage instead.

If you believe that was what happened, then apparently... um... ASR's going to hell, and I don't know wheretheeff Jake or Nova are going.

If you believe that's your brain going haywire with no oxygen, then you're all frickin' messed up.

There's no way any written instructions could help you pull it off, so don't try it unless you know what you're doing, and honestly, I say don't try it period.
I've seen and heard of it done countless different ways, and none of them ever look/sound safe.

I thought they were retards back then, and I think anyone who does it now also deserves such a label.

Well that's great. If he loves me, I'm offended and if he doesn't, then I'm still upset!

I think it's obvious this isn't safe. If someone told me to play this game, I'd say "Yeah, I'm alright. I like to breathe, thanks."

I would never do it in this day and age, and I'm the guy who does every crazy thing that pops into someone's head, like jumping out of moving cars and going on the spinny kids ride at Cedar Point 5 times in a row.

It's just, something about this screams "This caps it, not being able to breathe is where I set the line."

When I was younger, however, hell yeah.

I'm glad you admitted you're stupid, because I'm going to tell you that that is THE MOST STUPID THING I HAVE HEARD TODAY. I'm glad you didn't die, and I hope you learned your lesson. That game is more dangerous than people think.

Oh well, tis' the time to experiment.

Do it.

Draw blood too.

Actually, just slam your head on the desk repetitively until your skull cracks. That'll do the trick.

I had a near-death experience, wasn't as dramatic as yours.

I was riding my bike home, I was like 14 at the time, and, since it looked clear, I started across the street, and apparently the light down the road changed green, because all of the sudden-- Cars, #####ing everywhere. I weaved and dodged, and then I saw a bus coming, so I peddled faster, to beat it. The bus speeded up to beat me. Basically there was a curb in front ome and I knew if I bunny-hopped it, I'd be okay.

Then the moment of truth came, and I kinda realized that I don't know how to bunny-hop.

I saw the bus next to me, and everything went black.

The blackness, I remember, being aware of it, but not really having a sense of self.

I awoke, I guess, a few seconds later, on the curb, face down, my bike across my back, and hearing the bus honk it's horn as it drove away. Someone in a truck  stopped to help me up.

The front tire was popped, completely. So I think i hit the the curb, with the front wheel, and flew forward, and the force sent my bike after me.

I was in a blank state as I walked home with my broken bike.

Yeah I was almost killed by a car a couple times. Most recently was in the winter 2006-2007 crossing the street. There's a blind spot (apparently) where a sign on my route home covers a lane when you look down the street, so I thought I could walk since it was like the middle of the night anyway.

Not so. Car was barreling down the hill, speeding naturally, and honking at me. I tried to get out of the way but I was on black ice and my frantic steps brought me no where. I ended up diving back onto the curb in time.

I few summers ago I was riding my bike, and there was a curb next to that I could have gotten onto, but the end of it was all dug up to be replaced, so I's have to stop to get up or ruin my front tire. Anyways, it was about 5 inches up so no riding onto it. I end up getting forces to ride right next to it under a bridge, and get side swiped by a malibu, hit and run, crack me head off the pavement, rolled about 15 feet and then had to get out of traffic when I regained consciousness.
I walked away with a helluva concussion (couldn't sleep without puking for 2 days).
Worst thing, I called my mom to come pick me up after the ambulance got there, and she was wasted drunk. Embarassing as hell. I could sense the pity from the paramedics. She did a lot of screaming and wailing and crap which just about split my head.
If she was any other woman but my mom I probably would have just told her to shut the ##### up and leave me alone.

When walking home from the gym, my friend and I walked across a parking lot. A car fully stopped to let us cross, but when I was almost across, the stupid ##### accidentally stepped on the gas petal and nudged me in the butt, I flailed my arms up in surprise and shouted "WTF HO!?"

We had a good laugh about it the rest of the walk home.

I nearly died from a heavy box on my head

I had stepped aside to do something else for a second and it fell where i was just standing.

Never heard of that knockout game though...

That's cuz it's called the passout game.  The knockout game is much more violent.

I didn't want to forget, so I recorded on my phone the sound I heard as I passed out.  I made the sound with my mouth.  It is weird and interesting.

Almost all of us have done or will do something that threatens our lives. Most of us won't even realize we've done so.

The important thing is that you learned from the experience.

Last night I snuck out and my parents almost killed me.

But I don't think that counts as a near-death experience.

At any rate, Edge is right on the money.  What truely defines a person is not simply confronting mortality, but what is learned and applied from it.  Without wisdom, experience is nothing more than a book with an ending.
