Apparently, in Melee Ness was supposed to be replaced by Lucas...

On the Japanese website for SSB Melee, they explained why certain things didn't happen in the game...

On the game's website, the developers explain reasons for making particluar characters playable and explain why some characters weren't available as playable characters upon release. The main character of Mother 3 for the Game Boy Advance, Lucas, was supposed to replace Ness, but Ness was kept because the game was delayed.

..#####. I think this means Ness was replaced then. Unless they changed their minds after Melee.

My assumption, we're still waiting on that 3rd party character to be announced. Whether there's more to be unlocked, I'm not sure.

The ones announced I'm sure will be set in stone, and characters like Luigi (I wanna see Waluigi as well) will be unlockable and not announced until a little after the game's release.

And the character select needs to be either equal in size or more. So far it's outdone your begging choices in Melee, from 14 to 23. The full character list in Melee is 26, so we're just 3 off so far...

That's assuming all the announced Newcomers aren't unlockable.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be more characters than there are in Melee.

Also, I think another character from the Fire Emblem series (most likely  Alec [I think that's his name] from the SNES game... He was supposed to be in Melee instead of Roy but Roy's game was comming soon... but Alec is the most popular Fire Emblem characters) is going to be in this game to replace Marth and Roy. Ike can't replace them because he's a more powerhouse and slow character unlike Marth and Roy.

WHAT NOW ABOUT ALEC

Dude, it would be AWESOME to have a character in Brawl named after me.

Ha, I'd come up to my friends and be all "ALEC IS IN SMASH BROS" and they'd be all "WTF R U TALKIN ABOUT" and I'd be all "NOT ME SILLY, A CHARACTER FROM AN OLD VIDEOGAME THAT WASN'T RELEASED HERE SO YOU DUNNO HIM AND CAN JUST ASSUME IT'S ME"

Oh, I would KILL for that.

Bonsly-only-battles won't be happening. I'm guessing you won't be able to make the chances of the Pokemon appearing like in Melee.

Also, Dr., just because you have to be a "professional melee player" doesn't make your opinion valid. Items > You.

Yes, let's have a match. Too bad you won't be as good as you claim to be in Melee with Brawl because of the different physics.

They won't be that different. The physics didn't change that much between Smash Bros and Melee, so it's doubtful they'll change much (if at all) between Melee and Brawl.

I heard the gameplay's a bit slower than Melee, but no too much.

Also, Wavedashing has been eliminated.

Well, considering they're using a whole new engine for Brawl... everything from Melee is gone. It'll be similar but gone. This includes those glitches, however, new glitches WILL be found.

Mmm, it wasn't that bad. At least we got a new mode instead of "ITEM NUMBER 205."

Heh, I needed this feature a few days ago with Melee.

That update was actually helpful. The Rotation mode is useful.

Probably just to remind the next gen players how things should be done...
Which isn't wrong, if they actually get trained to become pro players.
Otherwise, it's just a waste.

The game mode updates are filler for the REAL update when they make the big last character reveal.

Richter Belmont.

Captain Falcon can not be in Brawl. It's fine by me.

It's the only F-Zero game I've played. I want to play others, as well as Fire Emblem.

I couldn't beat the game though. There was a damn Ice track with an impossible jump. I remember getting across it SOMEHOW, but it must've been a fluke, because on the 2nd lap I crashed and burned.

The update was expected in the game. Nothing really new.

They are solid racing games, and they've got a unique sense of speed at that. There's really no faults to them - they're all that you're asking for. If you expect a solid racing game, you'll get one from F-Zero.

I think I'd do the right thing and keep quiet except to a select few.

Either way, Xero's right, it's pretty far-fetched. There's still always that tiny chance that it's a full copy. I could understand a demo disc being leaked, though. That's probably what it is, since E for All wasn't too long ago.

There's still always the off-chance, and I will indeed hold my breath. I'm a VERY skeptical person, so give me a break once in a while and let me be foolish. It's not like there's any downsides to this investigation.

Okay but did you even ask HOW he got it?

And pictures lie every day.

Apparently, in Melee Ness was supposed to be replaced by Lucas...

..#####. I think this means Ness was replaced then. Unless they changed their minds after Melee.

I heard they weren't replacing Ness and that they just haven't announced that he's back yet. I can't prove that or anything. I would rather they keep Ness than give us Lucas since Lucas seems to be another clone anyway.

The FIRST F-Zero is gold, so your little theory is VOID.

Yes.

Anyway as far as the figure 8 place. Meh. One of the Falcon Melee levels was similar.

I really don't care at ALL about Dedede being in the game. Metaknight sounded kind of cool, but we don't need ANOTHER Kirby character.

I'm not overtly impressed by the new characters so far. Zero Suit Samus, Pit, Sonic, Snake, and PokéMon Trainer seem cool. But the rest... Eh. Like I said, Lucas is little more than a Ness clone with a few new moves (some of which don't count aas being differences because they are only in this game, i.e. Final Smash attack).

I want to see Balloon Fighter action in there, considering how well Ice Climbers worked out. And Ness back. I realize Mother 3 needs publicity, but Ness is one of the Smash Bros. staples along with the rest of the original cast. Those guys shouldn't be dropped.

Actually, here's an update that won't be on the site, for thsoe not in the know...

Corocoro will be releasing the full Brawl fighter list come the 15th, which is this Saturday, so that's likely why we'll be seeing crappy updates until the week ends, and possibly just in time for the Blue One's Birthday.

From a poll they conducted as to who fans wanted to be the 3rd Party Characters.

1. Sonic
2. Bomberman
3. Rockman

Given the slump that Bomberman has outside of Japan, while Rockman/Megaman has a vast appeal, I doubt it more if he's not in the game, at least as an Assist Trophy of sorts.

Okay but did you even ask HOW he got it?
Yes, she doesn't know. The update: she still doesn't know. She hasn't gotten in contact with her brother since then, and apparently my interest isn't motivation enough for her to do so. I'm over it, but for some reason I believe her. She's very naive when it comes to videogames, so that might be why I trust her - she just might not be RIGHT about what she's saying.

There is a whole thread relating to this debate already... so keep it out of this one, please?

Yeah, we already mentioned this, but we don't know for SURE if it's going to be the FULL ROSTER including as-of-yet unnannounced characters, or just a recap of what we already know. Also, I doubt that it is affecting the lack of good updates.
