I've been wanting to make this topic for a while...

Story
This bay is the only thing you have. You felt as if you've suddenly existed on this bay not too long ago, yet you know you've been here for an eternity. You know nothing else about the world. Only this bay exists, and the only thing you own is this bay...

One day, while relaxing in front of a fire, you hear a voice; you've never heard the language before, yet you understand what its saying;

"I am sorry for placing you in this lonely hell, my child. Let me show you the world..."

Some force who is known as, and worshiped as, The Deity, has told you of his mistake of placing you in this place. And now he'll give you the chance to see what the real world is like, to meet real people, to really have friends for the first time in your life...

This is your story, your new life in this new world.

Characters
You: You are the main character in this story. You can choose to be male or female and choose four different avatars for each gender. You also name you.
You are the only person in this game that can change class and you have the choice to master the class or not. You can change class whenever you like.

Your Partner: Sometime in the game, The Deity will ask you questions. Depending on how you answer these your partner's stats will be set. You can choose what the only class your partner will have, what gender they are, and what name you would like them to have.

A "bot": Later in the game, you'll have the choice to between three "bots" described as "souless humans with emotions". There are three bots to choose from:

Issac: The power bot. He can equip two weapons at once and has a LOT of attack. Average in every other stat, however, and very low in speed and magic. Will learn very few skills.

Mr. Ken: The defense bot. He's the tank of your team and will take in a lot of damage without going down. High HP and defense, but will only be below-average in everything else.

Lucy: The magic bot. She's weak, has low HP and speed, but will have TONs of magical skills. However, as a jack of all trades, she'll be the master of none.

You can name the bot you choose something else if you prefer.

Gameplay
The battles are your standard turn based battles, but you'll have TONS of customizability with your characters. While the two characters are permanent with their customizing, the highlight of the game is that it IS possible to master all of the classes and learn tons of additional skills for your main character.

There are 14 regions on this planet (the regions are like countries in our world). Each region has a location or two for you to visit. For example, Greenland will have two locations to visit, Southern Country and Greywood Manor, while Urban Eagle will only have one location to visit, Mothersday.
There may be even a secret location or two available after certain points in the game...

There will be tons of secrets, tons of exploring, tons of fun. There will be mini-games, and post-game things to do. And if you're still not satisfied, have fun learning the 110 skills you can potentially learn. :)

Screenshots
I'll provide screenshots of each location in the game as I make them.

Is this game done yet?
Not yet...

BUT

It's gone FURTHER along than MMMRPG did. Everything data-wise is done except for the monsters. I'm now at the part where I'm actually making the game play: The maps and the events. The monsters are being made as I progress through the maps so that it gives me a better idea on what kind of monsters I need.

I finished one location in one day (Southern Country), and theres about 25 locations... however, Southern Country is meant to be a small location anyway, being the first. With this in mind, I guess that the game MAY be done early September. You never know with me, but I hope it'll be earlier. :)

Until then, use this topic to ask me questions and discuss things, etc.

...

Phew. *Goes to sleep*

Looks great. Got any screens from battles? That's usually where people who make RPGs stuff up.

Also, make me a monster! Everyone needs panda monsters (and recolours of panda monsters, if you're Capcom).

Thanks for the support guys.

As for spriting, I don't need any. I'm just going to use the standard sprite set to make things infinitely easier. It'll still be original for you guys, and people on other forums said that as long as the game is good, they don't mind (and it will be).

I'm am going to need a sprite for the final boss, though...

Also, on the subject of music... I currently have Brawl music in place.

...

While some of the music fits perfectly with the locations in the game, I'd still prefer using indie music that other people have made, to keep the game fresh. Does anyone know of a website that's full of them?

Posted on: 30 July 2008, 12:36:25

Oh right, battles...

Yeah, I put them up there now. Like I said, the battles are standard turn-based stuff, first person view battle and such... I did that to make the game simple.

The screen is different from the normal battle system that comes with RPG Maker, though... And the calculations for the battles are different. Thats about it, though.

Not very far. >_>

I've completely finished Southern Country and that's about it... But its completely finished! Monster battling, shops, and glitches are all tuned out! <_<

I've ran with some trouble on how the game was programed... Like, the weapons got far too strong. Same with the armours and such so I had to fix all of that.

And I've fixed some other things too...

But anyway, most of the work I've done since I made this thread was in early August... after that, Life and his pal, College, hit me hard. REAL hard. So I was barely able to do work on it.

But now that I've settled in residence, work for this game is starting up again. I've just finished a few more maps. I'm hoping to finish the next location, Greywood Manor, by Sunday.

Posted on: 12 September 2008, 18:28:03

Alright, so here's the deal.

Basically, since I'm having a hard time balancing school, friends, gaming life, and internet life while having to put this game somewhere in between all of that, I've decided to release a demo. In case this game never comes out, I'd like to see how positive the reviews this game could get.

The demo is nearly done, but I need everyone to submit a sprite of theirs. Not an overworld sprite, a general sprite, like a Megaman 7 edit or something.

Trust me, it'll be awesome.

I have yours somewhere... but I can't find it (besides the one in the hood).

Anyway, I just now whipped this sprite up in MSPaint. Based heavily on Dr. Light, although I drew everything myself (could have copy-pasted hands and eyes, but everything else is largely my own doing).

Use the one with glasses; I drew both just because I need reference for where to place them.

Oh, and it only uses 16 colors, counting transparency.

Use Paint.
... although GiMP lets you save transparent gifs without blindingly obscure alpha-pass MSPaint magic that probably doesn't work after Win95.

... but I have Photoshop so whatever.

Fireworks is OK, but pretty much obsolete since Adobe owns Macromedia now.
The GiMP is a nice alternative, though (except the UNIX version is much better).

I found Fireworks was a slower more mentally challenged Photoshop when I had it and it was still part of Macromedia's MX package.

Actually the only thing I've left from that whole package is Dreamweaver MX... Mostly only because I've been having problems installing CS3.

I've got Flash MX, but I only ever bought that version, and don't care to learn the new Actionscript which has dramatically changed since they never keep the language definition the same from build to build.

Whooo, the main demo is 100% complete. Everything is completely tested. And I made sure that the boss is tough as hell when under leveled. Also made sure you're at least at level 10 when you get to him, which is just strong enough to beat him. It'll take a lot of strategy and luck, to say at the least. I managed to do it, though, so it's not impossible.

So, now all I need is your guy's sprites (your guy's?). It'll be a fun thing after the main demo. :D

When I say eskrima sticks I usually am referring to rattan, but eskrima is a Filipino martial art that uses multiple kinds of short sticks and swords. Eskrima is great.

Nightwing uses eskrima sticks. Actually, I should've JUST posted that image on it's own.

I try to familiarize myself with such things, for future Mikero comics/stories/blahblah.

Weight isn't the only thing that enters into the effectiveness of a weapon. If you're speedy and accurate enough, even light weapons like those sticks can be deadly.

Plus, being small and light, it makes it easier to move quickly, and they can be used for auxiliary movement as well.

... this said, my weapon of choice is the spatula.
