If I were still into anime, I would love Death Note, I'm sure of it. However, I just can't bring myself to care anymore.

I watched an episode the other day, and I have to say the detail in the art is impressive, especially the work on the backgrounds. As for the story itself, I can't say since I only did see that one ep, but it's interesting.

I watched the entire series in about a week roughly two months ago. While I loved the first two-thirds of it or so, it lost something along the way.

It's been a long time since I've seen an anime with such intentional moral ambiguity and wit though, even if it is occasionally heavy-handed.

Someone once linked me to a live-action adaptation that was made in Japan. A full movie, and it seemed like high quality. The demon guy looked amazing special FX-wise.

I havent seen the anime but finished the manga like a month or two ago. Yeah to be honest I almost though the main character was doing the right thing, it's smart, interesting and does make you think.

I saw the live action thing too... but I can't honestly think of any actor who could represent L well. His nature was almost inhumanly concise, and I don't think you can correctly express that unless you have absolute control of yourself.

I don't honestly think anyone has that.

It's not bad though, and I told him I'm only watching the dub.

Is L named so because there's no actual sound for that letter in Japanese?

Someone once told me that (same guy who linked me to the movie), but he's overly obsessed and I don't like him much. Regardless, I thought that was pretty clever.

For an Anime with no action or giant robots it's pretty watchable.

Makes sense doesn't it? Even when there's no way to pronounce something, you still attempt to find a way to verbalize it. Like when Prince changed his name to a symbol and everyone still called him "The artist formerly known as Prince". It just so happens that this symbol already has a name.

L is supposed to be a cover up for his real name, or maybe like a code name.

Remember Q, M, and R in James Bond? Same case.

Of course it's a cover-up for his real name, but I mean there's a reason it was chosen, right?

Then it just got ridiculous and boring.

It's not about dark being cool, it's about dark being dark. It's really stupid to "pass on" everything that you think is dark just because it's supposedly some sort of cliché in your eyes.

I can't really say much because it's the one anime I ever finished, but I enjoyed it.

It was a decent anime, but I agree with it sorta getting a bit dull about 2/3's of the way through.

It's worth watching, just to see the protagonist and the villian act loony and try to justify his actions. Alot of the time those actions cruel or just wonky, if not clever.

Where do they end the anime? IF it's the comic's ending, then no. By that point I was thoroughly annoyed.
Basically Kira's helper screws up by doing something he shouldn't have and so they end up dying when they do this kind of "final showdown" in some abandoned warehouse. I obviously wanted Kira to win, but that's my fandom talking, I actually just didn't expect that turn of events.
I liked it.
They were trying to make you expect Kira to win by making him think of the whole thing and why he should be winning until the 30 seconds went down and nobody died of a heart attack. Then he was all "WTF NOOO MY GODLINESS IS FALTERING"

When L died at first I was somewhat confused. I was like "AHH DON'T SMILE AT HIM, HE'S FAKING" but then he wasn't and I was like "Oh."
I can more or less agree on the L part there.

Though Mello was more interesting to me than Near. Near just sat on his backside and used L's research. Mello actually did crap...although random with it. LOL.

I thought I responded to this but I guess I didn't.

I figured L was used simply because it succeeded K, as in Kira. K, L, M, N. I guess it depends on if the entire story was planned or if it was decided to continue the series just before the time skip, because maybe the K and L were a coincidence that was added to on purpose.

True. It isn't more than a coincidence to you if you're an actual character inside the story noticing it, but we as readers can look at it and see that they're connected and suddenly the possibility of it being done on purpose becomes plausible. Not that it actually has any significant artistic meaning, though.

One of the best series I've ever seen and definately amongst the mega hits of this year's season. The way the story is told, the music, the characters, everything is done tremendously awesome, although the end did suck (but that's what more or less everyone else thinks).

Now to get back on topic, wasn't it funny when Lite said "AND I'LL EAT A PATATO CHIP!" in a really dramatic way? lol

Death Note is entertaining in the same way Yu-Gi-Oh is: unintentionally.

Really, this series is watchable, but it's just too ridiculous.  Light should have been caught a hundred times over, but whenever that would happen, he catches a "lucky break" and then brains his way out of what should have been game over.  Not just once or twice mind you, but EVERY DAMN TIME.  Now, having the protagonist think his way out of a situation is good, but not when he has to be given plot kai luck of the gods to be able to do that in the first place.  Light thought ahead a lot, but not enough.  If not for the plot dependant luck there would have been no story.  And therein lies the fact the show is hilarious.  Seeing the utter disregard for what should be L's side nailing him by just out thinking/out performing/out doing Light by him being almost told by the author that "hey you're going to get caught if you don't..." is funny.

In short, I don't hate Death Note, but it's not a very good anime either.

I don't think that game would sell a lot in other continents other then Asia. It's a bit too mature.

@Rez:
Still, some of the plottwists were done very nicely.

But if it's plottwists you want, you really should go see Code Geass.

One season is finished, so you can check it out in one turn. Season two is coming Fall 2008.
