Title: PC gaming/Modding
Post by: Johncarllos on 12 March 2018, 23:51:35
Topic is a place to post/link to PC games and modding.

I really just want to share some screenshots I took in the Witcher 3 using NVidia's new Ansel feature which pauses the game and gives you free camera control for screenshots.

Even just toying around I think I got some decent shots.

Here's the album so far. (https://imgur.com/a/1SAPJ)

It's from a single fight with a Fiend, but I'm trying to better understand how to adjust the depth of field and bokeh effect for more control. Every shot can be filtered and adjusted.

The only worthwhile mod is the Car gun from GTA5.

I love doing that stuff, I got some good shots in Mad Max but no modding was done. I don't have the Witcher 3 but I'm surprised they needed to make a mod for that. I think it should be a standard feature nowadays.

There has been a director mode for a while, which allows for setting up your scenes however you want, even animating them. I think CD Projekt Red they made the 2 year anniversary video with it.

"Ansel" is just nifty new NVidia code that devs can insert into their game so anyone can do it if the game dev supports it. It's extremely full featured. I'll be posting more screenshots next time I play.

One can currently take screenshots of up to about 60,000 x 35,000 resolution if desired. It ends up being about a 32GB file.

If you can play with depth of field like this (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=725741462) or this (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=719838947), then I'm ALL about it.

I'm into real photography so I guess for that reason, I get way into features like this. Took a few more pics than necessary with Mario Odyssey's camera feature.

Oh boy can you ever, I'll post some shots of it in action later tonight, with comparisons between the effect levels. I mean you can change the bokeh shape and intensity along with focal length and DOF distance threshold.

Here's NVidia's full list of supported games. (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/games/#ansel)

Just jumped in and got some shots. The Imgur album has all the captions you'll need to explain what was happening while I did it.

All done on a controller, btw. Super intuitive.

Here it is. (https://imgur.com/a/GeNIY)

I usually just mod older games to have better textures or cut content. Or bug fix mods.

The only worthwhile mod is the Car gun from GTA5.

That... sounds amazing. Too bad I can't run GTAV on my crappy PC... not yet, anyway.

Standing on top of the tallest building and raining down a shower of steam rollers upon the city is truly godly...

just imagine shooting out trains with that
and using superpower mods to fly and eye beam your enemies as you do it

Nice, that's exactly the type of control I like. I just want it to simulate my actual camera as much as possible. It's just not "epic" without DOF!

just imagine shooting out trains with that

That's just Saints Row IV then.

Although the reused city in SRIV was disappointing, the super powers and such were a lot of fun. Though it kinda just turned the game into Crackdown.

Oh, there was a neat Sonic Adventure 2 mod that let you play as the multiplayer only characterd in single player, meaning you could play as Amy, Metal Sonic, Tikal and Chaos. You could also play the stages as the opposite side character too.

Oh, they exist.

The superman mod, for instance. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEbTqAwIW-0)

Here's a non-ansel picture I took, just showcasing how nice the game can look in it's cutscenes.

but you cant fly sadly
or shoot laser eyes

What?

I think he was saying that SRIV doesn't let you fly or shoot eye lasers.

Though, once you max out everything you have infinite stamina so you can glide and air dash forever so its almost flying. And there are plenty of laser beam weapons in the game to make up for a lack of laser eyes.

Oh, ok. I thought that was the one that literally gave you super powers. I stopped playing the series after 3, I have no idea.

It's got super powers, but only super jumping, super speed, air gliding, air dashing, elemental blasts aaaand a few others that I forget.

I have found that they are powerless to the black hole gun

Napalm burns in water dude.

Only ON water with a self-oxidizing compound added.

Tsunami XL is a powerful ninja spell because it submerges the target instead of just getting their ankles a little chilly.

I have found that they are powerless to the black hole gun

And yet those were all destroyed after the Genevinja convention.

Thermite naplam burns underwater.  Long enough to deal with a ninja.  Checkmate.

Took a bunch of screenshots last night, uploading them soon.

Again, Spoilers.

Took a minute. Been busy overclocking my PC and installing a new cooler.

Here are some more spoilerific shots. Nothing major though.

I've recently taken my i5 6500 and through a backdoor in my motherboard overclocked it to 4.5Ghz.

40% performance boost for only a $30 air cooler improvement. And I don't even really break 60C.

I'll do more Witcher soon, but Rocket League has me real bad lately.

"Through an Ice Wall" and "Desert Planet" are impressive. Since I never played Witcher I think some of them fall flat to me, since I don't know the atmosphere, but those two are really nice.

Pfft, pokemon go, maybe.

... maybe a little.

If even 10% of my shots are decent, I'm happy. Considering you spend maybe 5 minutes on each of those planets in a one-off mission they made them extremely detailed.

With an attitude like that I hope to god you never become a bartender.

If I was a bartender 50% of the shots would be perfect, as I'd be drinking them.

You wouldn't last 5 minutes in one of John Taffer's bars.

I am running my PC with a 5760x1080 resolution, and occasionally at 5760x 2160 when I add the TV I have mounted above my PC. I wanted to find a decent desktop wallpaper for that use and for my 4K in the living room, but there's nothing with sufficient smoothing and fidelity for 5760 pixels wide across 5 feet.

I decided to use the ansel feature in Witcher 3 to get a decent looking super resolution shot. Struggling with the one that came out as 200MB, but the 28 MB one is available

HERE (https://imgur.com/ACSx02a)

The other one is

HERE (https://imgur.com/XxswQzb).

Went through a couple resizes from 30720x17280 down to 5760x3240.

Posted on: May 14, 2018, 07:22:47 PM

Here's how the first one looks applied as my wallpaper.

Right hereio, yo. (https://imgur.com/IXOc4Sw)

The color issues are partially because I'm still working on calibrating my monitors, and partially the slightly side viewing angle on my TN panel screens distorting the color range. I got the outer 2 for free off of a job recently, so they're not perfect, but they do have displayport in, which allows me to overclock them to 75hz, which is nice.
