Title: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Xzeemo on 14 April 2008, 15:58:14 Yea, so I know that it's coming out here really soon, but has anyone heard about the race tracks and that stuff? Like, will it have the battle modes and wifi etc. I'd love to see some classic tracks back as well as some of the DS version tracks. I really hope that they did this title justice.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 14 April 2008, 21:13:31 It's already out here, so I can tell you that it's amazing and you won't be disappointed.
It's got half-and-half old and new tracks, just like the DS and GBA games. It's got Battle, even though offline it's not that good, and the Wifi works flawlessly... You start off with 5000 points when you play online, and you gain and lose points depending on how well you play/place. The only problem with it is the total lack of originality: It's Mario Kart... AGAIN. But that's no bad thing... just no new thing. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 14 April 2008, 23:49:09 I probably won't get it. I like Mario Kart but I haven't liked one enough to buy since Super Mario Kart.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Johncarllos on 14 April 2008, 23:54:20 Abe, do you steer with the Wii Remote?
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Fatso on 15 April 2008, 01:37:04 I hope not. I've found the motion detection to be somewhat clunky at times, and with a reflex-oriented racing game like Mario Kart that could be a serious drawback.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 15 April 2008, 02:04:10 Well, you should be more optimistic and hope that they perfected it for Mario Kart!
I'm excited about this game. Brawl is the first game I've bought since forever, and this is the next game on my agenda. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 15 April 2008, 02:55:02 Yeah, I heard the online beats the crap out of Brawl.
In fact, NOVA joined my room tonight. STILL LAGGING LIKE HELL ON EARTH. I thought, "Wow. None of this bull##### in Mario Kart for sure." Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Majikn on 15 April 2008, 04:21:34 Abe, do you steer with the Wii Remote? Yes, you do. I don't know if there are alternative controls, especially for the motorcycles, but the game does come with one steering wheel. I hope not. I've found the motion detection to be somewhat clunky at times, and with a reflex-oriented racing game like Mario Kart that could be a serious drawback. We're not talking about sudden motions that sometimes don't translate correctly, though. We're talking about steering with two hands. Tilting the Wii Remote left and right to steer has ALWAYS translated perfectly for me, except when you try to rotate the thing past 90 degrees. Maybe there's a way to fix that, or maybe it won't matter because that'll be the maximum you can turn anyway. I don't know for sure but it's probably that. Anyway, I am going to get this game. Naturally. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 15 April 2008, 04:43:08 You should be able to turn the wheel more than 90 degrees. You do that all the time in a real car.
Motorcycles? Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Majikn on 15 April 2008, 05:04:20 Yes, motorcycles. They're faster but they can't turn as well/get a full drift boost or something. It probably feels more realistic if you don't use the Wii Wheel for those, though.
I'll probably stick with karts for a while, personally. And yes I know how much you need to turn the wheel in a real car, but the Wii Wheel isn't held in place like the steering wheel of a car either. I don't think it needs to be THAT realistic, anyway. It's a step forward, at least. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 15 April 2008, 06:07:41 I'm 100% more interested now that there's motorcycles. Still, I'll try it and probably not buy it. A lot of people I know will get it either way.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: TheRedPriest on 15 April 2008, 07:30:18 I'm pretty sure you can play it much like Brawl, with the Wii Remote, the GC controler or the Classic Controler.
And the fact it IS Mario Kart is beyone good. If you want something different for #####s sake, go play Grand Turismo. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 15 April 2008, 11:49:16 You guys have Wario to thank for the motorcycles. I read somewhere that it was because they wanted to include his bike that they broadened it to everyone getting cycles.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: TheRedPriest on 15 April 2008, 15:15:51 I have this preordered. Looking forward to it. Though one of my room mates who playes it a lot is in Canada for 6 months, the other is essentially moved out and the last one is at his girl friends most of the time...
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 15 April 2008, 22:54:16 That's why you have us!
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 16 April 2008, 06:08:55 go play Grand Turismo. No THANK you! I have this preordered. Looking forward to it. Though one of my room mates who playes it a lot is in Canada for 6 months, the other is essentially moved out and the last one is at his girl friends most of the time... So you're saying you have the upper hand on all your friends! Use the time to learn how this game plays different and then crrrrrrrush them when they play. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: TheRedPriest on 16 April 2008, 21:42:01 I don't like Mario Kart THAT much.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 17 April 2008, 04:06:46 Blasphemy.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Morgan Guyer on 26 April 2008, 20:03:49 Hey abbz...
You get that- THING, I sent 'ya? Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: NovaMan XP on 26 April 2008, 20:15:03 Hey Morgan, how'd you get the game so early? Doesn't it come out tomorrow?
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 26 April 2008, 20:59:37 Hey abbz... Yeah, but when I tried accepting, it didn't seem to do anything. And it's just weird that you use a Mario mii! Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 26 April 2008, 21:10:16 Haha, that's pretty funny, actually.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 26 April 2008, 22:07:43 It has accepted it now, by the way, Morgio.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Xero on 26 April 2008, 23:40:21 I'll add you Abz once I get it.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Morgan Guyer on 27 April 2008, 07:22:44 Hey Morgan, how'd you get the game so early? Doesn't it come out tomorrow? There was a place in china town that broke the street date. Anyway, you up fot a race anytime soon, Abbz? Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 27 April 2008, 19:20:50 Uh, how about Tuesday?
I'm too bizzay... :( Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Xero on 27 April 2008, 19:43:00 I have it and I'll register you all tomorrow.
I'm with friends going to see a movie. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: NovaMan XP on 27 April 2008, 23:37:00 Won't be getting it until late May... oh well.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: TheRedPriest on 29 April 2008, 16:05:04 Hate the squid if only because it comes up too often. Hate the POW block as it just nerfs everything and again, happens way too much. The rest is pretty ace. I'm most pleased the circling shells are back and the Mega Mushroom and Bullet are excellent additions.
The game is just as rage inducing as the others if you play it for any more than 20 or 30 minutes, as the AI is just as cheap as it's always been. Getting knocked from 1st to 12th in a succession of instant ass raping item #####s is still all too common. Still, overall a fun game. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Majikn on 29 April 2008, 18:54:29 Some vehicles don't seem to recover as easily from getting hit by your basic projectiles, I'm noticing. Like, on the sugarscoot when Luigi gets hit by a red shell, he takes an extra moment to flail his arms around and that gives him a chance to get hit again easily. And then all the uber 12th place weapons fall on me at that exact moment and I still somehow end up in 1st or maybe second unless it happens near the end.
I don't really care so much about the squid, but the POW block is annoying. I thought maybe that if you just pressed the drift button to jump at the right moment, you'd be able to dodge it, but you ACTUALLY have to go up a jump to avoid it. That seems lame. I especially love how you throw items now, though. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 29 April 2008, 19:38:30 I think I convinced myself that I had survived the POW block by hopping once or twice, but I might have been wishful thinking.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 29 April 2008, 19:43:51 I don't think hopping works for POW's, but you can dodge a Spiney Shell with a Dash Mushroom.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Johncarllos on 29 April 2008, 21:38:21 Hopping does avoid POWs, that much I'm aware of.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Majikn on 29 April 2008, 21:58:21 Well, it hasn't worked once for me.
I just found out that the Mega Mushroom is impervious to the Blue Shell. Now THAT is awesome. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Johncarllos on 29 April 2008, 22:00:25 !!!
Cool. I need to make monies so I can get this game. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 30 April 2008, 04:50:59 I'm getting payed this week ($160~) so I'll have enough to buy it next week.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: TheRedPriest on 30 April 2008, 17:33:56 I've yet to avoid a POW by hopping nor have I been able to speed boost off the start.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Majikn on 30 April 2008, 18:47:07 I just figured I'd start holding it down after after the 2 started to fade like on the DS, and if not, I'd look it up, and it worked the first time. I think you get an even better boost if you do it at just the right moment but I haven't figured that part out yet.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 30 April 2008, 18:51:08 Yeah, it's all about the 2-fade.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 30 April 2008, 19:43:12 I don't know how to do it on other games like F-Zero (if there's any start boost), but after reading the MK DS manual years back, I always press the gas on the 2.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 1 May 2008, 00:46:42 On most games you just hit it on Go.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 1 May 2008, 18:32:26 First worldwide competition has begun!
I'm 30 seconds off the top spot!! But still better than Kamon!!! :D Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 2 May 2008, 17:28:19 Better for now. We'll see about that over the weekend!
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: TheRedPriest on 2 May 2008, 21:54:48 I'll have to look up my friend code. Though I suck horribly.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 2 May 2008, 22:09:59 I want this game, but not enough to spend $50 on it at the moment.
INTERESTING PREDICAMENT Need a job. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Johncarllos on 2 May 2008, 22:27:54 I just got my check for $248.
I might use some on this game. But I need college too...... Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 3 May 2008, 04:02:28 I might attempt to get it this Sunday. I have "store credit" from my regretful purchase of Sonic and the Secret Rings at a shop in the Flea Market.
Just as long as they don't give me bull##### about it. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 3 May 2008, 05:55:41 They probably will.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 4 May 2008, 14:03:15 Hey Abe, up for a race?
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 4 May 2008, 14:16:52 Gimme a while to eat and then I'll go on.
Posted on: 4 May 2008, 14:08:14 Alright, coffee will suffice, so I'm good to go for a 2 or 3 races :) *goes on* Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 4 May 2008, 14:53:35 I keep getting "You were unable to connect with this friend" or a data transmission error.
Posted on: 4 May 2008, 14:26:57 I seriously messed up in Wario's Gold Mine... Good races Abe. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 4 May 2008, 15:20:53 Sorry that I disappeared so quickly, but yeah, it's always fun :)
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 4 May 2008, 15:24:10 we're gonna have to schedule a tourmament or something once we have more people get the game.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Xero on 4 May 2008, 15:29:59 I want to race but you guys are never on.....
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 4 May 2008, 15:30:53 Give me a few minutes and I'll get back on and race you.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 4 May 2008, 17:54:31 we're gonna have to schedule a tourmament or something once we have more people get the game. I'm game, but I'm not going to attempt to get it today like I said I would. I gotta do something next Wednesday, and then I'll be checking to see if I can nab it next Saturday or Sunday. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 4 May 2008, 18:05:38 I had 6000 points earlier, but then I did disasterously.
7000 gets you a big star next to your name. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 18 May 2008, 13:00:35 I only have 5876 point for the races, but I have got over 300 wins.
Now then, back to the new competition. 6 seconds more and I'm in the World Top 10. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 27 May 2008, 02:30:42 HAHAHAHAHAHA!
I've unlocked the Blue Falcon! HA!
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Johncarllos on 27 May 2008, 02:31:40 THAT'S IS IN IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: NovaMan XP on 27 May 2008, 02:49:40 Yeah, its in it.
But I hear only the baby characters and light characters can use it. ... Captain Falcon should've been in this game. I mean, they have Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, why not the good ol' Captain? Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 27 May 2008, 03:16:26 They put Diddy Kong in it, I expect to see some airplanes!
Posted on: 27 May 2008, 03:12:20 Actually, Captain Falcon can be still in it. Just make or download a Captain Falcon Mii. Preferably a lightweight one. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: NovaMan XP on 27 May 2008, 03:30:07 It's not the same...
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 27 May 2008, 04:03:51 You're right. He'll be chibi and his head will be outside the car.
IT'S STILL AWESOME. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 27 May 2008, 05:48:01 That's MORE awesome, I think.
And at least DK and Mario have appeared together in a classic game, it makes sense he's there. Diddy should race in his own racing game, which is dope anyway so it should have a new one too. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 30 May 2008, 20:19:48 I was racing online and all of a sudden, the tracks became Mirrored. WTF. How the hell did that happen?
Aaaand I have 7116 points, but I already earned a big star due to Grand Prix races, so I don't get Abe's post. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 30 May 2008, 20:41:04 Yeah, it was mirrored one time for me too. o_o
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 30 May 2008, 20:57:34 Oh, it had to mirrorize THE ONE TRACK too.
Oh God, Rainbow Road Mirrored. ._.; Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 1 June 2008, 14:12:05 I haven't seen Rainbow Road mirrored yet. The engine size for each race online is random, so you must've been real unlucky. Where did you finish anyway?
Posted on: 1 June 2008, 13:33:35 What does everything think of the new Competition? Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 1 June 2008, 18:00:20 To be honest, I haven't cared about any of them.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 19:59:28 If i could beat Rainbow Road mirrored, i would have Rosalina by now.
Stupid Rank A... Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 1 June 2008, 20:06:01 There's an alternate way to get Rosalina. You just need a Super Mario Galaxy savefile.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 20:09:41 I know, but i don't have Galaxy and i don't plan to get it.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Morgan Guyer on 1 June 2008, 20:11:22 I had 6000 points earlier, but then I did disasterously. Getting a star on every race in single player grand prix mode nets you a Star, abbz. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Abominator on 1 June 2008, 20:18:40 Oh.
I'll never have one, then. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 20:21:50 I could have one... If mirror mode special cup wasn't so hard...
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 1 June 2008, 20:28:36 It was cake to me. Slightly annoying, since I had some assholes for CPUs a couple of times, but it was simply trial and error.
And I have no idea how I unlocked Rosalina, but I'll just guess it was because of my Galaxy data, even though it wasn't immediate. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 20:30:46 I hate when your in 1st and you'll be mercilessly pelted with Shells, lighning's and POW's.
ALL AT THE SAME TIME Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 1 June 2008, 20:33:08 I have a term for that. I call it "Gang-banged".
I really hated it one time when that happened. I slipped on a peel, struck by lightning, hit by a red shell, and then fell off the ledge. It's happened to me in MK DS too, but it usually involved a Blue Shell blowing me up at the end instead. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 20:38:38 Nice dude! Gang-Banged...
I got pelted by a red shell, Lightning, as soon as lightning wore off i got POWed, then a blue shell came at me... Terrible stuff Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 1 June 2008, 20:47:39 The worst I had was Red Shell, Red Shell, Blue Shell, Lightning, POW, stray Green Shell. I dropped from 1st to 12th, but managed to come first in the end thankes to a Gold Mushroom and a Bullet Bill.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Vinchenz Rock on 1 June 2008, 21:00:08 I absolutely hate getting pelted by a blue shell litterally in front of the finishing line.
It happens to me ALL THE TIME. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 1 June 2008, 21:10:05 It happened to me lots in MK DS, but for some awesome reason on Wii, I get bombed AFTER I cross it. Rather than ticking you off, it feels exhilarating.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 21:23:37 Yeah, that always happens...
When your lucky anyways... Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Kamon on 1 June 2008, 21:46:43 I tend to dodge one Blue Shell per race, usually just before the finishing line.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 1 June 2008, 22:32:16 Yeah, i hate when you get Gang-Banged in Moonview highway
It almost always results in you being rear ended... Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 2 June 2008, 02:50:56 Do you even know what "gang bang" means?
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 2 June 2008, 03:01:16 Pssh. What's in a word?
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 2 June 2008, 03:07:27 Apparently a lot.
Edit: I should have said "letters". Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Fatso on 2 June 2008, 04:42:18 No wait...
Gang-Banged...rear ended ...he might be onto something here. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 2 June 2008, 04:44:51 I said a phrase, and now it's all of a sudden frequent use in his vocabulary.
"HEY MOM, I JUST GOT GANG-BANGED!" Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 2 June 2008, 04:48:12 Except that "rear ended" is actually a term for when a car hits your car from behind, and is not actually sexual.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Fatso on 2 June 2008, 05:00:42 I knew that already, but thanks for screwing around with the joke anyway.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 2 June 2008, 07:02:01 Next time be funnier and maybe the outcome will be different for you.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Neo Arcadian Hero on 5 June 2008, 03:32:24 I dunno what it means.
Ask ChaosVortex, Hes the one who called it Gang-Banged. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ChaosVortex on 5 June 2008, 03:54:35 OH MY GOD
*falls off chair in laughter* Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 5 June 2008, 04:19:04 FAAAACEEEPALLLLM.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 5 June 2008, 04:22:10 Well, see, a gang-bang is when you...
... ...uh, go watch Drumline or something. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: NovaMan XP on 5 June 2008, 22:18:41 I'll have to say, I laughed quite a bit.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 6 June 2008, 02:56:23 There's a gang bang in Drumline?
With Nick Cannon? I can think of few things worse. Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 6 June 2008, 03:50:24 No gangbang, just... a gang of people banging drums.
Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: Mikero on 6 June 2008, 03:52:29 OK. But still...
... Nick Cannon... ¬_¬ Title: Re: Super Mario Kart Wii Post by: ASR on 6 June 2008, 03:53:05 I'm not saying he shouldn't get gang-banged.
